Energy Ellicient!
Lowvoftage lighting is an innovative lighting
technique providtng creative solutions for
many of todayls demanding commercial and
residerrtial apprications. With about one third the etectricF ot

ity used by standard incandescent fixtures to

achieve similar results, low voltagelixtures

deliverexciting accent, display, and decorative lighting with precision control. Besides
offering the f lexibility, performance, and
energy eff iciency to satisfy f unctional
requirements, Low Voltage Lighting produces qualities needed to mold, accentuate,
orgive personalitytoaspaceorobjectto
fultill aesthetic planning.
A pioneer inthe development of lowvoltage
systems, Halo introduced thefjrst solid state
translormer, the Power-Trac L2001, allowing
new lightweight lampholder designs such as
the Gimbal Ring and Euro Style series. ln

recessed lixtures, Halo Lighting developed

exciting alternatives with specification grade
adjustable series, as wellas the Quick Ship
H7, and the H1499 series lor applications
wherespace is restricted. As the leader in
the industry, Halocontinuesto explore new
directions in low voltage lighting.

Low Vollage Defined

Using integral magnetic transtormers, Iow volt
age ligrrting slep s standad l2OV line voltage
down to 12 volts. This reduced vottage
permitsthe use of miniature lightsources
ratherthan the larger, standard line voltage
incandescent lamps.
Since theirfilaments are smaller,low voltage
lamps serve as etfective "pointsources"
whose output oftightly defined beams can
be precisely controlled in shape, intensity,
and degree of spread without producing
e)draneous light. This highly eff icient lighting
system produces substantially more useable

HALOLIGHTING

lumens per wattthan standard 120V incan-

descents. Smallfilamentdesign combined

with lamp optics provide candlepower
intensities normally associated with higher
wattage line voltage incandescent lamps.
Sharply defined narrow to wide beam
spreads supply exact light distribution
needed to illuminate objects and accent
details. Designers can selectively utilize
lighting to generate the excitementand
drama they desire.

Flexltbility and Quali$ ot Light

PAR36 and NIRl6lowvoltage lamps are
available in lamp wattages ranging from
20Wto 75Wand with awide selection ol
beam angles.

Thisllexibility allows you to employthe exact

beam angle necessaryto achievethe
desired etfect:lrom very narrow beams
for highlighting a smalltargetto wide
beams tor illuminating a particularsurtace such as a tabletop orwall.
The whiter, brighter light quality ol
the MRl6low voltage lamps
improves color rendition. People,
obiects, and interiors aresharply
illuminated, textures look three-dimensional,
and colors appeartruer and more natural.

More Ughtwith fess Energy

High beam candlepower allovvs the use of ,ow
wattages lo ac hieve desired illurnination levels.
ln fact,lowvoltage lamps producethe light
equivalent of standard line voltage lamps of
two orthreetimesthe wattage, resulling in a
potential66% savings in electricity alone.

Asthe chart indicates, standard voltage

lamps with 150 watts may be replaced with
12V lamps using halfthe wattage to achieve
comparable results. With energy rates ranging from 60to 140 per kilowatt hour, itdoes
not take long to realizesavings in any

Forexample, acomparison ol T5W 12Vand

150W 120V lamps based on 100 per kilowatt
hourtimes 2600 burning hours peryear (est.
at 10 hours per day, 5 days perweek) could
realize a savings ol approximately $20 per
fixure peryear. lvlultiplied by 25 fixtures, your
savings can amount to about $500 peryear.
ln addition, lower wattages reduce radiated
heat from the fixtures, producing a more

comlortable space lorthe occupants and

allowing for lower air conditioning costs.

lnstattalion and Maintenance

Savl:ngs
Lotttet wattage consumption also means lower
initiat installation costs,
Low voltage systems require smallerdistribution panelboards, lessconduit, and fewer

switchesand circuit breakers. Fewer relampings mean reduced maintenance costs, too,
because lowvoltage lamps have alile (2000
to 5000 hours)two or three times longerthan
standard line voltage lamps.

Compact Size and Dwability

Compact lighting sources permit compact
fixture designs. lnconspicuous units direct
light output where you want it, making illuminatedlargetsthe center of attention rather
than the fixture orthe ceiling. Miniature tixtures can be used in applications where
space isscarce and where powerand
access are limited.
The smalllilaments of lowvoltage MR16
lamps are shock and vibration resistant.
Whereceiling vibration is present, low voltage lamps provide longerlield lile.
