Church Family
Thank you....
Many thanks to my church family for the outpouring
of love, support, prayers and condolences, through
cards, texts, phone calls, visits, flowers, memorial
contributions, and attendance at my dads Celebration of Life service.
I know that the words Thank you seem inadequate,
but then again, something I have learned over my
dads brief illness and death, is that words just
sometimes DO feel inadequate. Gratitude is a touchstone that has helped me to pause and to reflect on
the goodness that has come to me because of the
generosity, support, and caring actions of friends
like you. Your overwhelmingly loving expressions of
sympathy, prayers and support have touched me
deeply. The best words I can muster up at this time
are:
You are all awesome, and I am so blessed!!
Period.
Love,
Cindy Shoemaker
Dear Central,
Thank you, for your long time care, concern, cards,
notes, calls, flowers, quilt square, and especially, for
your prayers, all of which have sustained us for over
a year. Paul is in remission, in his own apartment,
and returning gradually to full time work. Ruth has
recovered well from her surgery. We have returned
to Menno. Please continue your prayers for Paul to
stay in remission as he rebuilds his immune system
in the coming months.
In His name....

To my friends at Central,
I wish to thank you for your generosity and kindness
to me during the Christmas holiday. The monetary
Christmas gift from the congregation, gifts from individuals, goodies, and cards were deeply appreciated. My wish and my prayer for each one of you is to
have a beautiful new year filled with love and peace.
Bertie Lawyer, Secretary
Dear Central,
I would like to thank my Central church family for
the very generous Christmas gift I received last
Sunday. I am so blessed to have this opportunity
to serve the Lord in ministry and I look forward to
continuing my work as your Minister of Visitation
in 2016. May the Lord bless each of you in the
coming new year!
JOY VILLAGE
Did you have a houseful of family for Christmas? Well, so do the folks in Kenya. Every year millions of
Kenyans travel great distances to celebrate Christmas and explore their ancestral roots with their families.
But what about the children of Joy Village? All are orphans, and some were found abandoned, with no
trace of family.
Joy Village moms to the rescue! Mothers Joyce, Grace, Peninah, and Elizabeth decided to take their JV
children along with them to visit their families upcountry. What a loving thing to do, and what a surprise
for each family to see nine extra kids arrive, imagine the loving chaos! Then take a moment to give thanks
in prayer for these moms, their distant families, and all the residents of Joy Village.
A delay in filing the request for subdivision with the Boro meant that we missed the November hearing
timeline moving the Boros consideration meeting into December.
Our attorneys belief that this was not an urgent matter led to a slow response on his part in preparing
the paperwork for the transaction.
The Boro has stated that in order for the property to be subdivided the parking lot must be shown as part
of the church building property. This resulted in a requirement to redraw the engineering drawings prior
to submission to the Boro. That is currently underway.
In reviewing the plans, the Boro discovered that their electric department had failed to obtain an easement for the two poles that are on the parking lot when they were installed years ago. That easement
will be included in the new drawings.
IMPACT: While the delay in closing continues, we are incurring expenses on the property that we had
hoped to avoid by closing in 2015. This has also meant that we are not in a position to redo the mortgage
on the remaining properties the Bank and Lincoln Way West parking lot until the sale is closed.
Its a new year! How awesome that we get to start over every January 1 st! I
dont know about all of you, but New Year celebrations give me such a boost
YOUTH
of confidence an assurance that I get a second chance. All of the stress and
GROUP
worry of the year before suddenly releases and Im reminded that I
get a clean slate. True, Gods mercies are new EVERY morning, but
theres just something about seeing the year change on our calendars
that makes it feel official. I have a bunch of goals for 2016, but my
biggest one is to notice beauty every day. My sister wrote a song
recently called There is Beauty All Around Us; in listening to it, I was overwhelmed with an urgency to notice the beauty around ME specifically. Its so easy to take Gods creation for granted, so in 2016, Im going
to love every part of it! In order to keep myself accountable, Im going to take a picture of something beautiful every day and post it on Instagram with #beautyallaroundus as the hashtag. Join me if youd like! Itll be a
great adventure! Im excited to engage in the moving of the Holy Spirit with all of you this year! Gods will
be done!
YOUTH:
In December, we started the theme The First Became Last, focusing on how Jesus has always been first
(in the creation of the world and in being part of the Trinity), but chose a life on earth of rejection, persecution, and servanthood. He chose to become last for us! The rest of the month has been met with a challenge:
how can we put ourselves last to glorify God?
Our second Sunday outreach involved the Middlers going back to Penn Hall and spending time with the
residents there, while our Highers engaged in a new kind of outreach! We decorated ourselves with Christmas joy, took small gifts, a poem, and a Christmas carol and went around to serenade employees in local
businesses on Wayne Ave. We thought, You know, people who work in restaurants and in places like Kmart
get treated poorly during the Christmas season, so we are going to make them smile. And we did! We left
every place we went with the workers beaming from ear to ear. It was a good night.
On the third Sunday of the month, we had our annual youth Christmas party, where we prayed, played, ate,
and exchanged gifts! Big thank you to the Carlin family for supplying our youth Christmas dinner!
On December 29th, the 8th graders and the high schoolers went to Rhodes Grove retreat center for a winter
refocus. It was a beautiful and meaningful time of spiritual growth and friendship.

CONTEMPORARY WORSHIP:
After each extra busy season of worship, I find myself extremely and
overwhelmingly grateful for all of the people who make meaningful
worship happen at Central. If you are one of those people, thank you.
You are appreciated and loved.
We are looking forward to making 2016 more Jesus-centered than ever
as we approach scripture, song, dance, and teaching with integrity, faith,
and total reliance on the Holy Spirit!
