THE WELCOME
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
The love of God,
And the fellowship of the Holy Spirit
Be with you
And also with you
God is love, and those who live in love live in God
And God lives in them.
Eternal God,
As we share in this joyful occasion,
Bless us and Helen and Mark as we pray
That they will love and care for each other
For the rest of their lives.
Bless this wedding and the gifts of love and happiness
That it brings to all
Amen
Oh, Little Town of Bethlehem
O little town of Bethlehem,
How still we see thee lie!
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep
The silent stars go by;
Yet in thy dark streets shineth
The everlasting Light;
The hopes and fears of all the years
Are met in thee to-night.
O morning stars, together
Proclaim the holy birth!
And praises sing to God the King,
And peace to men on earth.
For Christ is born of Mary,
And gathered all above,
While mortals sleep, the angels keep
Their watch of wondering love.
How silently, how silently,
The wondrous gift is given!
So God imparts to human hearts
The blessings of his heaven.
No ear may hear his coming,
But in this world of sin,
lawfully marry,
you must declare it now.
The minister says to the bridegroom
N, will you take N to be your wife?
Will you love her, comfort her, honour and protect her,
and, forsaking all others,
be faithful to her as long as you both shall live?
He answers
I will.
The minister says to the bride
N, will you take N to be your husband?
Will you love him, comfort him, honour and protect him,
and, forsaking all others,
be faithful to him as long as you both shall live?
She answers
I will.
The minister says to the congregation
Will you, the families and friends of N and N,
support and uphold them in their marriage
now and in the years to come?
We will.
The minister invites the people to pray, silence is kept
and the minister says the Collect
God our Father,
from the beginning
you have blessed creation with abundant life.
Pour out your blessings upon N and N,
that they may be joined in mutual love and companionship,
in holiness and commitment to each other.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ your Son,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen.
Reading 1 Corinthians 13:4-13
4
Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant 5 or
rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;
[2] 6
it
does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. 7 Love bears all
things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
8
Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they
will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we
prophesy in part, but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away.
When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a
child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. For now we see in a
mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know
fully, even as I have been fully known. So now faith, hope, and love abide,
these three; but the greatest of these is love.
