In 2015, although getting lots of incentive exemption in taxes, Halotel paid huge
amount of taxes to national treasure amounting to 18 million USD, in that 10 million
USD for insurance taxes, 5 million USD for import taxes.
Mr Dai further noted that Halotel has already created over 1,500 direct and 20,000
indirect jobs, insisting that his company abides to the Tanzania Labour law, ensuring
all their 250 Vietnamese experts have work permit, and during this year, Halotel will
continue to reduce its Vietnamese experts to accelerate transference of skils to
Tanzanian.
Currently we have 1,505 total number of Tanzanian employees. 1,021 staffs are
registered to different social security funds (SSF) of their choice, 484 probation staffs
are on the initial process to register, and on top of that our human resource policy
ensures employees interests are prioritized said Mr Dai.
Mr Dai also expressed his dismay to the incidences of theft and robbery facing
Halotels infrastructure, noting that a total of 52 cases has been reported to authorities
since January to December 2015, causing damages of 393 million Tanzania shillings.
Halotels goal is to ensure each Tanzanian has a mobile phone thus change the the
way people live and the way a countrys economy develops.
With an infrastructure of 18,000 km of fibre optic cables and more than 2,500 base
receivers all over the country, Halotel is the widest telecom in the country, and
alongside that, Halotel is going to provide optical cable to 150 committees, 150 public
hospitals, 150 police stations, 65 post offices and free internet for 450 schools said Mr
Dai.
About Halotel
Halotel is the new mobile network operator in Tanzania officially launched on 15 th
October, 2015. Over a short period of time, Halotel has built 18,000 km of optic fiber,
almost 2.500 of Base Transceive stations (BTSs); especially, Halotel has brought the
broadband mobile service to 1,500 villages which had not been connected before.
That is the first step in the process of popularizing telecommunications in Tanzania. It
is also the first concrete result from the Viettel Groups commitment to the Government
of Tanzania. In a very near future, the fiber optic network up to 28,000 km; the BTS up
to 3,500 will connect every commune of the country, and more
With the strong telecom infrastructure, Halotel is implementing many social
programmes in Tanzania namely Bringing Free Internet for 450 schools (which has
electricity and intranet already) within 3 years (150 schools each year). Especially, to
help the local authority do the management work effectively, Halotel has optic cable
connected to 150 committee offices, 150 hospitals, 150 police stations, 65 post offices
at district level.
