Sub: Analysis of Speed complaints from FTTH Customers - reg
As you are aware, the FTTH project was implemented in BSNL for providing Fiber to
the Home to all the needy customers. LAN Switch, RPR ,OLT and ONTs were procured as a
part of this Project. There are two types of implementation - GPON and GEPON.
Even though
FTTH customers are sharing the same Network resources like
MPLS,BNG,RPR etc along with the Multiply BroadBand customers ,the best priority has
been given by NOC to FTTH Traffic by creating separate context and treated differently to
get a better experience in international gateways. In spite of this, it is observed that many
speed complaints are being received from SSAs for FTTH Service.
NOC receives complaints from various Node In Charges and resolves the issues on
priority. There is a possibility of carrying out preliminary checks by the Node incharges which
will help them resolve the issues immediately. After conducting the preliminary checks, the
same shall be escalated to NOC if it is not resolved. It is here by requested to carry out
preliminary testing before escalating to the NOC which will help in timely resolution of the
cases.
A detailed procedure to be carried out by the Node incharges for addressing the
Speed issues of FTTH customers is attached as Annexure - 1. This procedure shall be
utilised by all the nodes before escalating the issues to NOC Bangalore. The escalation
Matrix shall also be used for escalating the issues. It is also requested to provide the
escalation Matrix being followed by the nodes for resolving the FTTH issues.

From the fig download rate 2.123 MB/sec hence speed =2.123 * 8= 16~984 Mbps
After sharing the result with NOC,MPLS,BM team, still the problem continues, we have to isolate
one by one element and performance of each element needs to be verified as follows:
STEP 3 :- Testing OL T speed by isolating it from other NIW elements
1. Connect a PC (preferably Linux) with FTP server software like Filezilla installed in the second
uplink port ofthe OLT. The PC 1 should have a file of size aleast 1 GB
2. Connect a second PC (PC 2) to an ONT connected in the downlink port of the OLT. FTP client
software (Filezilla) should be installed in PC2
3. Pass one vlan in the second uplink port of the OLT. The same vlan should be passed in the ONT as
well.
4. Perform file transfer from PC 1 to PC 2 and note down the speed. This will give the data transfer
speed between OL T uplink port to downlink port.

I. Consult Multi play NOC for configuring a free port in OLT connected RPR for testing purpose.
2. A test vlan will be allowed in RPR port ( GE optical port) and the same vlan is also configured till
BNG end at all the levels of network.
3. Arrange a GE electrical SFP for connecting RPR port with a PC (Preferably with Windows 8
Operating System).
4. Incase if GE electrical SFP is not available, an Optical to Electrical converter is necessary for
connecting a PC with BNG.
5. Dial from PC using the User credentials and connect to perform the following tests.
