Annual Peer Counselors Training
By Dayle Davis
On Friday, December 11, the
Peer Counselors held their annual Peer Counselors training
at the Lutheran Church. This
organization involves individuals who are chosen from each
grade level in the high school.
Every grade votes on six classmates, three being boys and
the other three being girls.
Throughout the day, members
engaged in activities that could
benefit the community and
themselves. Members took part
in decorating paper bags for all
of the upcoming holidays including Christmas, Valentines
Day, and St. Patricks Day. This
project was a big success, and
resulted in many festive paper
bags that were delivered to the
Senior Center for Meals on

FCCLA Book and Clothes Drive

Wheels. While some members

were decorating bags, others
were wrapping gifts for the local Adopt-A-Child program.
After finishing the paper bags
and gifts, the Peer Counselors
settled down to listen to speakers
Angela Mace and Terry Robinson. Angela talked about her job
as a Drug and Substance Abuse
Counselor and opened the eyes
of the students about the issues
facing those with addictions to
drugs and other substances. Terry spoke about his life involving drug and substance abuse.
His story about his personal
experiences brought the effects
of substance abuse to reality
for the students. Drug and substance abuse affects you mentally, emotionally, and socially.
It not only affects you, it affects

everyone else around you, too.

The Peer Counselors learned
many things from the two
speakers, and enjoyed listening
to what they had to say about
their personal experiences.
In addition to the exciting day, the organization also
aided the pre-school in fun
Christmas crafts. The half day
pre-schoolers got to decorate
their own paper gingerbread
girls and boys. They used supplies such as buttons, ribbons,
sequins, and articles of fabric
to decorate their gingerbread
people to their liking. The full
day pre-schoolers, however, engaged in activity that was a little
more challenging, and required
some extra help. The Peer
Counselors helped each child
with their handprint Christmas

trees, which looked awesome.

This fun craft involved painting
hands green and making a tree
with the handprints on a white
canvas. Many of the children
described the activity as tickle-y and fun. The project went
well, was super exciting, and
gave the children a piece of art
that they will always remember.
All in all, the Peer Counselors had a very successful
and fun day. It is always great
to get involved in the community, and help out as much
as you can. The annual Peer
Counselors training is an amazing way to get involved and
engage yourself in activities
that you will never forget. Being in the organization teaches
members about compassion,
respect, and responsibility.

Who: FCCLA
What: We are accepting any new or gently used books of all
reading levels and clothes of all sizes.

When: From January 11th to January 22nd

Why: All items will be donated to the Foster Care Closet in
Lincoln, Nebraska, where children of all ages in the foster care
system are given the opportunity to shop for various items.
The Foster Care Closet has grown from serving a few hundred
to over 1500 children across Nebraska so donations are constantly needed to keep this amazing program up and running.
Where: You can bring your donations to either of the Rock
