INTRODUCTION
The incidence and prevalence of Erectile Dysfunction (ED) is high worldwide, about over
10% of Indonesia men over age 40 have erection problems. Although a benign disorder, it can
have a significant impact on the quality of life of sufferers, partners and families. Most men have
problems with erections from time to time. But some men have erectile dysfunction, or ED.
When you have ED, it is hard to get or keep an erection thats firm enough for sex.
The purpose of the report is to find out the definition, causes, signs and symptoms, effect,
treatment and prevention of Erectile Dysfunction.

CONTENT
A. DEFINITION
Erectile Dysfunction (ED) or Impotence is sexual dysfunction characterized by the inability
to develop or maintain an erection of the penis during sexual activity. A penile erection is the
hydraulic effect of blood entering and being retained in sponge-like bodies within the penis.
B. CAUSES
ED can result from health or emotional problems, or from both combined. Heart disease,
high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and high blood sugar can reduce blood flow to the
penis. This can then cause erection problems.
Some life choices can also add to your chances of getting ED. Smoking, drug (antidepressants) or alcohol abuse can also limit blood flow to the penis. Lack of exercise and a
lifestyle that isnt active can lead to erection problems, also. Some men cannot keep an
erection because blood does not stay trapped in the penis.
Certain health problems, injury, surgery or radiation therapy in the pelvic area can harm
nerves in the penis. One more cause of ED is peripheral neuropathy. (This is numbness or
tingling, often in hands or feet, sometimes caused by high blood sugar). This disease harms
the nerves that control erection, so they dont send the right signals to the penis. Some
emotional (depression, stress or anxiety) or relationship problems can cause or worsen ED.
Some medications, as well as alcohol or illegal drugs, can cause erection problems.
C. SIGN AND SYMPTOMS
Sign and symptom of the ED is penis cannot erection and maintain during sexual activity and
reduce sexual.
D. EFFECT
The effect of ED is hopelessness and lower self-esteem. And then can invade every aspect of
a mans life from his relatonship with his partner, to his interactions on a social level to his
job. Therefore, it is important for a man who is suffering form ED to feel as comfortable as
possile discussing his condition with his partners, and with physician, in order to discover the
treatmen strategy which can best help overcome this condition.
E. TREATMENT
1. Oral Medications
a. Sildenafil (Vigra)
b. Tadalafil (Cialis)
c. Vardenafil (Levitra, Staxyn)
d. Avanafil (Stendra)
2. Other Medication
a. Alprostadil self-injection. With this method you use a fine needle to inject alprostadil
(Caverject Impulse, Edex) into the base or side of your penis. Side effects can
include bleeding from the injection. The erection that last about an hour.
b. Alprostadil urethral suppository. This therapy involves placing a tiny alprostadil
suppository inside your penis in the penile urethra. You use a special applicator to

insert the suppository into your penile urethra. The erection usually starts within 10
minutes and lasts between 30 and 60 minutes. Side effects can include pain, minor
bleeding in the urethra and formation of fibrous tissue inside your penis.
c. Testosterone replacement. Some men have ED that might be complicated by low
levels of the hormones testosteron.
Penis Pump
A hollow tube with a hand-powered or battery-powered pump. The tube is placed over
your penis and then the pump is used to suck out the air inside the tube. This creates a
vacuum that pulls blood into your penis.
Penile Implants
This treatment involves surgically placing devices into both sides of the penis. These
implants consist of either inflatale or semirigid rods. Inflatable devices allow you to
control when and how long you have an erection. The semirigid rods keep your penis
firm but bendable.
Blood Vessel Surgery
Rarely, leaking or obstructed blood vessels can cause ED. In this case, surgical repair,
such as vascular stenting or a bypass procedure, might be needed.
Psychologist or Counselor.

F. PREVENTION
Taking active steps to prevent ED may help you keep sexual function. But these tips can also
help you lead a healthier life overall:
1. Stop smoking
2. Exercise regularly
3. Maintain a healthy weight
4. Avoid excessive drinking (more than two drinks per day)
5. Avoid using illegal drugs
6. Take medicine as prescribed
7. Talk to your doctor about the drugs you are taking. Cutting back or changing some meds
can often prevent ED. (But never stop or change any medicine without first talking to
your health care provider.)

CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION


A. CONCLUSION
Erectile Dysfunction is one of health problem of reproductive system. ED is not dangerous
but it can have a significant impact on the quality of life of sufferers, partners and families.
No smoking, no drugs, no nikotin and exercise it can reduce risk factor of ED.
B. RECOMMENDATION
If you do get ED, talk to your health care provider. To help you find the best cure, your
provider will ask you questions about your health, emotional and sexual history. You may
also need to take blood or urine tests
