My interdisciplinary experience this quarter was creating an individual brochure about Langston Hughes and the
Harlem Renaissance. This interdisciplinary was so vital for me because it taught me that although group projects can be a
great learning experience and a lot of fun, working individually is also a skill that is important. I thought interdisciplinary
was supposed to be group work, and could only be done as group work, but I proved to myself that I dont need three
other people to create a quality culmination project. That is why this project was so different from all the rest of the
interdisciplinary projects, and most of the other projects I have done in the past.
This assignment taught me a whole lot about the Harlem Renaissance and Langston Hughes, but also about time
management. One of the toughest aspects of interdisciplinary is that you are only given a week to do the project. I learned
from this project just how fast a week flies by, and how procrastination is not a good idea. I will admit that I could have
been much more productive during the time we had at school, and I will admit that I got distracted at some points. I think
one major flaw in my concentration tactics is that I listened to a lot of music during the block, and in between getting
caught up in the lyrics and changing the song every three minutes, I got distracted a lot. I did most of my work at home.
For the next interdisciplinary, I will make it a point to refrain from listening to music, therefore cutting my distraction
time. This project taught me a lot about my work ethic, and how to avoid procrastination.
