<please at some point confer amongst the other players to find character
connections and other hooks; you dont have to have your characters
know each other personally but good hooks are a plus.>
Step 2: Write 2-3 background and concept elements that you feel are
important to your image of the character. These can be a concept
overview, a list of important life events, a physical description, a
personality profile...whatever you need to get an image in your mind.
1. Hes good. And a good guy. And a good person. Hes young,
and has little in the way of experience of the world, so while his
education and existant experience are enough that he knows
some of the harsher truths of reality, he does not really
understand them in the way he thinks he does. He is good, but
its never really been put to the test, so all the signs of
goodness he displays are actually somewhat shallow, and
frequently unthinking; merely this is how a good guy acts/I
should act so I will and not much consideration as to the truly
right option. Someday he will be put to the test, and whatever
happens that is a day he will never forget.
2. Hes possessive. His greed is in his blood, inherited from his
forebears both mortal and draconic, and it is great. But it is not
bad, nor is it a bad thing. His faith in his homes future is tied to
it. His dedication to protecting his people all of them is tied
to it. His religion and his possessive desire are intertwined on a
level he isnt even aware to the point its difficult to tell the two
apart (and this utterly draconic aspect of his nature is one of the

reasons Bahamut is really totally okay with receiving his worship

even if its second, afterall all dragons put their hoards first). His
city is his hoard, and he is possessive, but he is not controlling.
He wishes to and will add to its greatness and wealth as he
can, but he knows other people are their own and have their own
lives to live and he will never get in the way of that (afterall
what proves a persons worth is the kind of life they live, and
every citizen is a part of his hoard and hes quite willing to help
them achieve greatness). This shows itself more obviously in his
attitude towards his friends (hurt them and die) and his own
possessions (which are his dont mess with them and are
maintained and cared for religiously). . . and a fondness for
shinies (all that glitters is gold and jewels. . .); but nevertheless
the strongest example is his attitude towards his home.
3. He worships his city, his home, and its people. Hes a paladin.
He knows his blessings are divine, and has every reason to
believe theyre from Bahamut, so he does and so he worships
Bahamut. Hes wrong. Drakis confusing the process and
because of that partially mistaken as to the source (fortunately
Bahamut appreciates the genuine and loyal if lighthearted
worship all the same and has not taken offense). His blessings
are granted to him and come from his faith, and before
Bahamut his faith was in his city. His faith is absolute and
somewhat overwhelming in its strength and fierceness,
especially for one so young (which is perhaps why it earned him
his Paladinhood), and its in his people and his service to them.
It is faith in their ability to be great, the truth that they are, and
the absolute duty that he owes to them before all other things.
He believes in Bronze Bays present and its future, and sees it
as his duty to serve and do all he can to both guard and steward
that present and future. And he doesnt even realize it.
Step 3: List two goals for the character. One of these goals should be
one that the character has, while the other should be one that you, as
a player, want to see developed over the course of the game.
1. To defend my city, to protect my city, and to help it achieve even
greater heights.
2. To have him face a morally grey situation he cant just respond
to by following the good guy script and makes him think about
and decide on a choice that he can actually argue to support on
from his own conclusions.
Step 4: List at least two secrets about your character. One is a secret
the character knows, and the other is a secret that involves him/her
but that he/she is not actually aware of yet. This will help me in
creating plots that center around your character. I will also be creating
a third secret which you as a player will not be aware of, so expect
some surprises!
1. His oldest brother and the former heir of their noble house
wants Draki out of the way. Before Draki, Remus Aleksander
Brontesion was the primary heir, and would lead the family after

fathers death. But Drakis birth was seen as miraculous and a

sign of immense favour and divine mandate, so Draki
automatically displaced Remus. While the attentions the entire
extended family have lavished on Draki have made him into an
excellent Paladin, Remus whose childhood education was
decidedly more political feels that Draki would be an unfit
leader for the family, and that Draki knows little about the
complexeties involved in actually running the city. Remus has
made no overt powerplays, but Draki knows of his older brothers
opinions and desires. And on his darkest nights, when he
wonders in his youth if he can ever hope even with all he has
to lead the family. . . he wonders if his brother might not be
right.
2. While Draki is still young at this point and his future capabilities
remain to be fully seen, what he does not realize is that his
father, Duke of the City and Lands of Bronze Bay, Lord Rickard
Gideon Brontesion feels that Remus would be a better head of
the family as well. The overwhelming response of both the
family exemplified by her Ladyship, Duchess of the City and
Lands of Bronze Bay, Relena Belle nee Argyris Brontesion and
the church upon Drakis birth took the decision of who would
receive title out of Lord Rickards hands. Since choosing anyone
but Draki would be seen as foolishly discarding a powerful
symbol at best and denial of the will of the gods at worst his
hands were effectively tied in spite of the fact the hed been
personally grooming his eldest son Remus for the role for
years, and the blessed nature of Draki meant that the church
and various religious tutors took a much larger presence in
Drakis education growing up, as opposed to politics and
economics. While Lord Rickard is pleased that Draki clearly has
some knowledge of these things, he worries that it wont be
enough especially ever since Drakis blessing of Paladinhood
became known and such matters were pushed even further out
of Drakis time and mind. While Remus loves his little brother
albeit distantly and mostly simply due to shared blood and
would never plot to kill him, Lord Rickard thinks that if a change
in circumstances doesnt happen soon his hand will be forced
even though it would break his heart. And it wouldnt be difficult
either: a simple request for his Paladin son to look into family
affairs in a dangerous and/or monster infested region of the
lands; asking his son to watch the family shipment along a route
known for its raiders; encouraging Draki to travel to disease
ridden areas on goodwill missions for clan, city, or church. . .
there are many ways Lord Rickard knows he can do this and that
his youngest will leap at the opportunity to bite off far more
than he can chew and get himself killed. At this point Lord
Rickard still has quite a few years left in him, and he hopes his
subtle encouragements will make Draki decide to forsake the
family title to live a life in the church, or that Drakis kindness,
goodwill, and naivete will get himself killed without Lord Rickard
having to lift a hand. So for now he waits, watches, and plans for
worst whilst hoping for the best.

Step 5: Describe at least two people that are tied to the character.
One of them is friendly to the character, and at least one is hostile. If
you like, you can include an enemy of yours here as well, so I have an
instant NPC nemesis to throw at you.
1. (Friendly) Name Christine Kris Freyja Brontesion Age 19.
One of Drakis older sisters and the closest in age, Kris middle
name was chosen by a relative as a blessing. She took to it.
Clever, flirty, a talent for arcane magic sending her to a life in
the University was the only option to keep her from becoming
too popular amongst the gossip circles of the city. As it is, she
ended up still a name of notereity but instead of it being for her
unforgettable presenence and sharp tongue it was for her
brilliance. Kris is distant from her parents, and these days
spends most of her time cooped up in her lab in studies (with her
newest minder lab assistant [thankyou verymuch] Vrishka for
company; an absolutley fascinating half-orc woman with an
endless stream of stories about growing up racially mixed in the
Plaguelands and a figure nothing short of the valkyrie ideal!),
but she loves her siblings dearly, and is deeply troubled by the
brewing conflict between her eldest sibling the bookish and
quiet Remus and her idealistic younger sibling Draki. She
knows of the conflict, but while shes more than familiar with
(and right tired of too, thank you notsovery much) University
politics, her education in political realities closer to home is . . .
lacking. Most of her worry is about the tension between her
loved ones and the disruption of familial relationships. As the
oldest daughter of the Brontesions yet to be married (and then
move off to live with the new husband and leave home and her
adorable little siblings behind no thankyou verymuch besides,
she prefers the fairer sex) she considers it her duty to keep an
eye out for and on her adorable little siblings (theyre all
younger than her for not being smart enough to get out of
politics in her opinion and no. Academia does not count as
politics thankyou verymuch, shes in it for the science magic and
the posturing professors and grad students are an unfortunate
tax one must pay for such a life). Sadly, shes probably in over
her head this time (though an excellent head it may be) because
the future of the family is on the line and this is not something
Remus or Draki will back down from easily. On the other hand
her commitment to her siblings and her family may be the best
chance for peaceful discussion at this point. . . now if only
someone could get her out of her damn tower and away from her
magic studies more often (yknow, without having to use Vrishka
as bait).
2. (Actively Hostile) NameJohann Aurumschlag age 25, Wanted:
Alive, 10 gold reward for information leading to an arrest, 500
gold for his capture. A disgraced noble, and excommunicated
member of the Church, Johann was another priest-in-training,
though one much further along in his education when Draki first
began being brought to the church for regular lessons with the
priests and the two saw each other often though mostly due to
coincidence. Draki took the opportunity presented to watch
Johann from a distance for two very important but simple

reasons: the first was that due to a legal agreement between

families dating back to before Draki was born, Johann was to
marry one of Drakis sisters. Because of their relative ages and
some previous similar agreements binding his older sisters the
most likely Brontesion daugter was Kris. The second reason was
that Johanns familys closeness had meant that he and Remus
had been friends when young, and Draki remembered both that
very clearly, and a very clear fight and falling out between the
two when Draki was younger. Watching him constantly like this
Johann inevitably noticed the unsubtle Draki, and took him under
his wing. Johann was friendly, funny, and always ready with a
treat. Draki liked him immediately and forgot all quarrels. . .
though he was always hurt whenever Johann grew short
tempered or ran out of patience with Draki. Over the course of
the friendship Draki even met several of Johanns new friends
outside the church. . . though Johann always referred to them as
church friends and they did remind Draki wierdly of the priests of
Bahamut in town, he never really gave it much thought. Until
one tried to recruit him. Draki listened to the offer, nodded
politely (as his parents always reminded him), and fled like hell
itself was chasing him. Sadly being quite young at the time
that wasnt exactly fast enough. Fortunately Remus was keeping
an eye on his younger brothers newest friend as well. And while
in the ensuing questioning, madcap chase, rescue, and
swordfight involving multiple priests, city gaurds, hired thugs,
cultists, and one overturned cart full of live poultry and cabbages
Draki was rescued with nothing but a few bruises and one very
distinct scar over his left eye, a great deal more was revealed as
well. As it turns out, Johann and Remus friendship had come to
a severe end when a very young Kris had confided in her oldest
sibling that she liked girls and didnt want to marry Johann.
When Remus had approached his friend with the news that Kris
did not wish to wed, Johann had dismissed the issue saying she
would learn to like him, and her desires in this matter little
anyways. While neither side had ever gone to anyones parents
over the matter, relations between families had been . . .
strained after. Under mounting pressure, frustrated, and having
lost a close friend, when infiltrators from the Cult of Tiamat
hidden amongst the church had reached out to Johann. . . it had
taken little convincing. With the cults activities revealed, and
Johanns multi-year allegiance and active recruitment for the cult
having come to light, he was forced to flee alongside his coconspirators. The cults plans were ruined, Johanns status in
both church and nobility were stripped from him along with the
termination of the marriage contract, and charges were drawn up
for conspiracy, kidnapping, and assault. These charges wait for
his return to this day. While the true hero of the ordeal was in
fact Remus, Johann fixated on how the spark that lit the
proverbial fuse was the sight of a pale faced and terrified Draki
fleeing a surprised cultist of Tiamat. Johann blames Draki, and
his successful escape for his disgrace even now, years later. . .
and can never quite forget the euphoric feelings of power and
strength that having a captive Draki as his plaything had
inspired. . . however shortlived the captivity may have been.

Johann is still with the Cult of Tiamat these days, and whatever
legal action has been taken still goes by his family name, which
translates as the light of dawn strikes. . . he thinks of it more as
a title now. His focus however remains revenge. Revenge on
Remus for his defeat and capture, revenge on Kris for causing
the falling out, and revenge on Draki for escaping. Draki and Kris
were his, and they belong to Johann. Tiamat preaches on what
one must due with an unruly hoard.
Step 6: Describe one or two mannerisms/quirks that your character
has. They don't have to be elaborate, but they should provide some
context and flavor. Some examples to get your juices flowing are
below. Feel free to expand upon your quirks, perhaps even an
explanation as to why they have that quirk.
a. painfully straightforward
b. occasionally oblivious
c. always well meaning
d. has little sense of personal space amongst his treasures friends (with
exceptions for those whove made it clear that bothers them treating ones
treasures correctly is part of maintaining a hoard)
e. loves to swim
f. sees everything in black and white reflexively and automatically
