TEN POINTS ON HOW TO IMPROVE ENGLISH

Based on a few articles which I came across with, I have gathered the
following points on how to improve learning English. They are :1. READ
Read and read. It doesn`t have to be anything boring, just read
about what you`re interested in. Reading anything that
professionally written in English will allow you to have a much
greater understanding of the language.
2. WRITE
Write and write. It will be difficult at first to write anything fluently
but again, practice makes perfect. By the time you have written
several letters, articles, poems you will able get a real feel for the
language that will obviously help develop your written English but
also your speaking.
3. SPEAK
Speak and speak. Don`t just sit silence to improve your English. Try
to speak English with others. Don`t be afraid to make in English
without mistakes and you will learn from these mistakes.
4. WATCH ENGLISH FILM.
Watch English films with English subtitles. Try watching a film with
English subtitles.
5. KEEP A LIST OF LANGUAGE TO LEARN; .e.g. a vocabulary list.
Even if you don`t often find time to go through your vocabulary list
and it keeps on building up, just choose which words you need to
learn and write them down on a special list can help you learn them.
6. READ AND LEARN EVERYTHING.
At the opposite extreme, it can be hard work but very satisfying to
get to the end of a book knowing that you have learnt every word on
it.
7. SAY OR THINK WHAT YOU ARE DOING IN ENGLISH AS YOU DO IN
DAILY TASK.
As you are doing your chores, try creating sentences describing
what you are doing; e.g., I am unscrewing the ketchup bottle cap.

This gets you used to thinking in English without translating and can
be a good way of seeing what simple vocabulary that is around you
everyday which you don`t know yet.
8. HAVE ENGLISH RADIO.
Have English radio on the background while you are doing your
house work. It will help you get a feel for English and vocabulary.
9. WATCHING ENGLISH CHILDREN`S FILMS OR TV PROGRAMMES
Although some of the vocabulary you can learn from things made
for children are strange but the structure of the story is simplified
and also often repeated to make it memorable and increase this
positive effect to your memory.
10.
READ THE DICTIONARY.
You should take this with you everywhere. Use the English-English
dictionary and try to use a bilingual dictionary less and switching to
a monolingual one can help you to stop translating in your head
when you are speaking and listening and other useful English
vocabulary can come up while you are using the dictionary.
