Opening A Savings Account: Step One
Step one decide which kind of account you want. Some banks have special
savings accounts just for kids. To find out which account youd like, just stop in at
your local bank. Theyll recommend an account thats right for you.
Step two Get your money. Once you decide which savings account is good for you,
ask the bank how much money is required to open the account. Usually its not
much so its easy to start saving! So start saving for your deposit, or set your
money aside right away.
Step three to open your account, Bring your parent or guardian (if you are under
18) to co-sign your account, which means theyll sponsor you. Youll all need to bring
some information with you to the bank. Ask your bank what
information they require.
What to Bring
A parent or guardian must accompany a person under 18 and must bring 2 forms of current
identification, with photo, including:
You may be asked to provide 1 of the following current IDs with photo, such as:
Student ID
Passport
Plus
Social Security number or individual tax ID number (ITIN)
Money to deposit ask if theres a minimum.
Bank requirements may vary, so ask your local bank what they require.
