Discussion
Group
Come join the group on Monday, February 1ST at 2 pm,
to discuss Dick Van Dykes inspiring memoir, Keep Moving
Show-business legend Dick Van Dyke is living proof that life does get
better the longer you live it. Who better to offer instruction, advice,
and humor than someone whos entering his ninth decade with a
jaunty two-step? Van Dyke isnt just a born song-and-dance man; his
irrepressible belief in embracing the moment and unleashing his
inner child has proved to be the ultimate elixir of youth. When he
was injured during the filming of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, his doctor
warned him hed be using a walker within seven years, but Dick
performed a soft shoe right there and never looked back.
In Keep Moving, Dick Van Dyke offers his own playful anecdotes and
advice, as well as insights from his brother, actor Jerry Van Dyke; his
friend and creator of The Dick Van Dyke Show, Carl Reiner; and other
spirited friends and family. Whether hes describing the pleasure he takes in his habitual visits
to the grocery store; how he met his late-in-life-love Arlene; or how he sprung back, livelier
than ever, from a near-death experience, Dicks optimistic outlook is an invigorating tonic for
anyone who needs a reminder that life should be lived with enthusiasm despite what the
calendar says.
You dont have to act your age. You dont even have to feel it. And if it does attempt to elbow
its way into your life, you do not have to pay attention. If I am out shopping and hear music
playing in a store, I start to dance. If I want to sing, I sing. I read books and get excited about
new ideas. I enjoy myself. I dont think about the way I am supposed to act at my age or at
any age. As far as I know, there is no manual for old age. There is no test you have to pass.
There is no way you have to behave. There is no such thing as age appropriate.
When people ask my secret to staying youthful at an age when getting up and down from your
chair on your own is considered an accomplishment, you know what I tell them?
Keep moving. Dick Van Dyke

Wednesday,
February 3rd
2 pm

Every Thursday at 12pm, join Feldenkrais practitioner Jill Van Note at Moriah Senior
Center for a series of exercises to reduce pain, improve posture, and help you feel like the
best version of you!
Moving Forward with the Feldenkrais Method isnt a conventional exercise program. It is
very different. Instead of stretching or straining your muscles, the Moving Forward
program features exercises that harness your brain to help your body. These exercises are
safe, stress-free and involve no muscular exertion. Instead, they involve small easy
movements and a pleasant process of paying attention to yourself.
What can this program do for me?
Moving Forward with the Feldenkrais Method can help you to reduce muscular aches and
pains, improve your posture, improve your balance, and increase your flexibility and ease
of movement. It can also help you to improve your breathing, reduce stress, improve your
mood, and give you a sense of energy and optimism. The exercises in the Moving Forward
program are also helpful after stroke or injury. In addition to helping you to heal and
regain function, they can also help to rebuild your confidence in your body.

There's a reason laughing makes you feel so good!

Various studies have shown how beneficial laughter can be. Along
with relieving stress and lowering blood pressure, laughter has been
shown to relieve pain and boost the immune system.
Following the mode of Washingtons Sibley Memorial Hospital,
once a month at Moriah, a group of seniors gather for the

Discussion
Group
Come join the group on Monday, February 29th at 2 pm,
to discuss Sandra Dallass riveting tale, The Last Midwife
It is 1880 and Gracy Brookens is the only midwife in a small
Colorado mining town where she has delivered hundreds,
maybe thousands, of babies in her lifetime. The women of
Swandyke trust and depend on Gracy, and most couldn't
imagine getting through pregnancy and labor without her
by their sides.
But everything changes when a baby is found dead...and
the evidence points to Gracy as the murderer.
She didn't commit the crime, but clearing her name isn't so
easy when her innocence is not quite as simple, either. She
knows things, and that's dangerous. Invited into her
neighbors' homes during their most intimate and vulnerable
times, she can't help what she sees and hears. A woman
sometimes says things in the birthing bed, when life and
death seem suspended within the same moment. Gracy has always tucked those
revelations away, even the confessions that have cast shadows on her heart.
With her friends taking sides and a trial looming, Gracy must decide whether it's worth
risking everything to prove her innocence. And she knows that her years of discretion
may simply demand too high a price now...especially since she's been keeping more
than a few dark secrets of her own.
With Sandra Dallas's incomparable gift for creating a sense of time and place and
characters that capture your heart, The Last Midwife tells the story of family,
community, and the secrets that can destroy and unite them.
