So many of the outward
signs pointed to a strong final three months of the year
for GE Transportation, a solid
conclusion to an even stronger year.
Erie Countys largest employer turned a $339 million profit on $1.6 billion in
revenues during the fourth
quarter of the year, according
to figures released Friday as
part of the General Electric
Co.s third-quarter earnings
report. And results for the
full year show that GE Transportation earned $1.27 billion
on revenues of $5.93 billion.
It is yet another number,
however, that helps to explain why GE Transportation
announced in November that
it would reduce its Erie workforce by 1,500 people.
