EEE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY OF LIQUID

DESCRIPTION
Thermal conductivity of liquid apparatus is based upon guarded hot plate method. The main

heater in aluminium heating chamber heats a thin layer of liquid. Top portion of this heater is guarded
against heat loss by a top and ring guard heater. A cooling plate removes heat through liquid layer,
ensuring unidirectional heat flow. Temperature is measured across the liquid layer. The apparatus is
insulated by glass wool bags.
FEATURES
1.

Three thermocouples on either sides of the liquid layer enabling to take average temperature.

2.

Ring and top guard heaters ensuring unidirectional heat flow.

3.

Determination of thermal conductivity over wide temperature range.

4.

Electrical input control and measurement with complete panelised instruments.

SPECIFICATIONS
1.

Hot plate assembly with suitable heater , 100mm diameter

2.

Cold plate assembly with water circulation.

3.

Ring and top guard assembly with suitable heaters.

4.

Glass wool insulation around the apparatus in the housing.

5.

Control panel consisting of:

A) Voltmeter :

0-50/100 volt

B) Ammeter :

0-2 amp

C) Dimmerstats :

0-230 V 2 amp for each heater

D) Digital temperature indicator 0-200c with 0.1c least count using Cr-Al
thermocouples, provided with cold junction compensation
E) Voltmeter and Ammeter selector switch.
SERVICE REQUIRED
230 V ,15 amp electric supply with earthing connection .
Constant head water supply at the rate of about 15 lit/min

FLOOR SPACE
3.5 m x 1 m approximately
