notesonabouttheotherpresidents.

thesefivegroupswillbedifferentwaystopresentyourpresidentinformation.Studentswillbe
askedtorateonasheetofpapertheirinterestinpresentingandthenIwillformgroupsbased
ontheirranking.Theirchoiceswillbe:essay,acting,music,drawing,andoutline.Studentswill
beabletouselaptops,books,andmagazinestofindtheirinformation.

Studentswillpracticetheircontributionskillsbyfirstunderstandingthatthisisasafe
environmentforalltospeak.Thisenvironmentmustbecreatedatthebeginningofthe
schoolyearwiththehelpoftheteacher.Oncestudentsfeelcomfortablespeaking,they
shouldnothavemuchdifficultywithsharingtheirideas.

Beforestudentsstartcreatingtheirpresentationontheirpresident,theymustshowtheir
informationsheettotheteachertogetapprovedontheirfacts.Ifthegrouppresentsvalid
informationandhascompletedtheirinformationsheet,theteacherwillputacheckmarkon
theirsheet,informingthestudentsthattheirgrouphasmettheacademicgoal.
Groupswillbegivenaninformationsheettofilloutabouttheirpresidents.Thiswillbea
goodguideandgraphicorganizerforthemandasateacherwillhelpmyselfseeifstudentsare
ontrackandareunderstandingwhatisneededofthemtocomplete.

b.Howwillyoumonitorthesocialgoals?
Iwillwalkaroundtheroomwhilestudentsareworkingintheirgroup.Iwillsitatagrouptablefor
acoupleofminutesandwillbewatchingthegroupinfrontofme,butIwillbelisteningtothe
groupbehindme.IfIseeastudentmodelingoursocialgoal,Iwillplaceachocolatecoinintheir
groupsbucket.IfIseeastudentbeingofftask,Iwillguidetheirgroupwithaquestionabout
theirpresidentorpresentation.

5.Providerecognition:
Time:Continuous

Whilestudentsareresearchingandworkingtogetherasagroup,Iwillwalkaroundand
monitortheirprogressonthesocialgoal.EachgroupwillhaveasmallbucketandeverytimeI
seeastudentmodelingoursocialgoal,Iwillputachocolatecoinintheirgroupbucket.Each
groupwillhavetheopportunityofreceiving4coins.Groupswillnotknowwhoearnedthecoin,
sotheyneedtomakesureeverymemberismodelingandpracticingthesocialgoal.
Aftereachgrouppresentstheirpresidentinfrontoftheclassroom,Iwillhavetwo
studentsgiveapositivecommentonwhatthegroupdidwell.Thiswillhelpstudentsconfidence
andkeepsthestudentswhoarelisteningengaged.Wewillalsogiveaonebigclapasaclass
aftereachpresentation.

Time:25minutes

Groupswillexpectedtopresenttheirpresidentfor5minutesinfrontoftheclassroom.
Theymaychoosetoonlyreadasmallpartoftheirpresentation,butthatwillbedecided
bythepresenterrole.Studentswhoareintheaudienceatthetimewillhaveasheetto

filloutforeachpresentation,theteacherwillhavethesameone.Iftheteachercanfill
outthesheetwithlittletonodifficulty,thestudentswillreceivecreditfortheir
presentation.(Seebelowforhandout)
Thesocialgoalwillbeassessedthroughteacherobservationandwillberewarded
throughthechocolateincentiveandwillberecordedinthegradebookascompletedor
notcompleted.

IftherearestudentsthatIfeelneedtobeplacedinacertaingroupbecauseIknowthey
willworkbestpresentinginthatarea,Iwillplacethemaccordingly.Ifastudentusually
needsextraattentionfortime,Iwilltrytoplacetheminanareathatsuitsthemthebest
forcompletingtheassignmentontimewiththeirgroup.Forexample,ifIknowthata
studentworksbestvisually,Iwilltrytoplacetheminthegroupthatdesignstheposter
forthepresentationratherthantheessay.
Ifthereisagroupthatneedsextraattentionortime,Imaysendthemtoadifferent
locationtocompletetheassignmentsothattheywillhavelessnoiseanddistractions
causingthemtogetofftask.
Groupswhomighthaveadifficulttimefindingenoughinformationabouttheirpresident,I
willguidethemintotherightdirectiononwheretofindit.
