PR Assistant: Welcome to Yorkshire, Leeds Oct 2009 – Present


One day a week placement supporting the press team with press activity, online website development, media
requests and press release writing.

PR Coordinator: Leeds Art Fair 2010, Leeds Oct 2009 – March 2010
I was involved in designing a PR plan, planning the launch event and design coordinating.

Leeds City Council: Communications Audit Sep 2009 – Jan 2010


I ran a four month audit on the work of Leeds Museums and Galleries into the methods they use to collect customer
feedback. The project looked at segmentation to target audiences and new methods of data collection for our project
recommendations, which was then presented to the council team.

Communications Assistant: Marketing Manchester Sep 2008 – Sep 2009


As part of my course, I undertook a full-time year long placement. My role within the press team was to help with the
running of the department by assisting the press and pr manager with press activities, events and media enquiries.
• Media Relations: National, local and international media, travel media, and lifestyle magazines. I am most
proud of the woman’s magazine campaign I ran, which included coverage in Company & Cosmopolitan.
• Events Management: Manchester Pride, local PR networking events, press trips.
• Writing: Editorial for international, national and local magazines, corporate newsletters, news releases,
interviews.
• Budget management: Conducting press trips under budgets.

I played a key role in organising and delivering the Manchester Pride 2009 event, from working with media, creating
press releases, interviews and supporting the Manchester Pride management team. The media coverage evaluation
was successfully increased from last year’s event.

Projects involved researching local and national papers and speaking to local, national and European journalists.
Conducting research for campaign & pitch ideas. Helping to organise client events and writing press releases.
Clients included: BBC TV Licensing & York Tourism Bureau

Attending, organising, speaking and publicising events, liaising with practitioners ranging from Google Head of
Corporate Communications and Oxfam Regional Campaigns Officer to directors of agencies. Writing updates on
events for the university website.

PR Assistant: Recognition Marketing & Public Relations, Darlington Jun – Sep 2007
This full-time employed position included writing news releases for local papers, writing client newsletters & editorial,
creating podcasts to be imported on the web; attending client meetings and helping organise BBC programmes on
behalf of clients. Organising and directing photo-shoots and press conferences.
Clients included: Balfour Beatty, St Teresa’s Hospice, LSC North East, Lee & Priestley, Waddington Recycling Ltd.

PR Assistant: Quest PR, Harrogate Feb - Apr 2007


The one-day a week placement allowed me to help with the day-to-day running of the pr team. Activity included
media relations and following up on press releases.

My role includes preparing kitchens, making produce & coffee, cleaning, serving public & cashing tills.

Tsunami Volunteer, Tsunami Volunteer Centre (TVC), Thailand Aug 2008


Month long project which involved teaching English to school children in Thailand; activities including lesson planning,
leading classes and creative thinking.

International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA) Thailand, Bangkok June 2008
Two week long volunteering position that involved working behind the scenes of the awards ceremony. I worked on
the backstage communication crew, which included learning the line up of the whole evening and communicating
instructions to several positions throughout the night’s show.

My role was to represent the university and the PR course at business events and open days.

media software programme.

Online Technology: Knowledge of online networking sites, and their creation. Wordpress applications,
Linkedin networking and website planning and design.
Personal Interests

While enjoying working part-time and studying, I like to read a variety of books and newspapers. I am also keen to
keep up-to-date with the new trend surrounding online media and networking. I am a keen photographer, a hobby
which has developed the skills from my art and design course, and I enjoy producing my own art works and
photography in my spare time. I enjoy working part-time, which gives me extra responsibility and financial
independence. I find that I am very active and enjoy attending several gym classes every week which supports my
active life-style, alongside training for sporting running events; always busy and motivated and never standing still.
