Character Profile

Actress: Laurene
Character name: Isabella Nichols
(flashback)
Age: 16
Gender: Female

Isabella Nichols is a 17-year-old girl who attends St. Marys Girls

Sixth-Form College in Brentwood, Essex. She previously
attended a school in Hackney, East London where she grew up
her entire life. As well as being a student, she is a carer for her
mum who suffers a terminal illness. She does not know who her
biological father is and has a poor relationship with her
stepfather.
Physical Characteristics:
Isabella Nichols is 5ft5 with dark skin and a slim body. She has
dark hair and dark brown eyes. She dresses casually, usually in
jeans and a blouse and often has her hair tied back.
Personality Attributes and Attributes:
Since moving to a school where she is the minority, Isabella
finds it difficult to make new friends and to approach people.
This is one of the main reasons she is reluctant to make friends
and is often by herself and away from everyone else. Despite
this, during debates and discussions in college (especially on
topics she feels strongly about), Isabella is not afraid to speak
her opinion but is then often put down by students as well as
students for being too aggressive and sassy. Outside of school,

she mostly looks after her mum who is ill and helps around the
house.

Emotional Characteristics:
Isabella is someone with a great ability to motivate herself and
avoids letting things get to her (if it does, she is very good at
hiding her feelings). She has had a very troubled past with her
stepfather as she suffered domestic and sexual abuse. Isabella
Nichols recognises her sufferings and promises to give herself a
bigger and brighter future, despite what she has been through.
Representation: Laurene will be playing the character of the
younger version of Isabella Nichols who appears in the
flashback scene of my film production. She is an A-Level Drama
student after achieving an A-grade at GCSE, so she is able to
present a number of different feelings and emotions clearly. The
role that I require Laurene to play is of a young, teenage black
girl who faces a number of difficulties in her school and home
life. Her mother is severely ill, her stepfather abuses her and
she is discriminated against in sixth-form. Throughout the film, I
aim to illustrate a clear representation of Isabellas identity
through the use of different microelements. Despite the fact
that there is no dialogue within my film until the last few
seconds, the use of a voiceover will be the prime use of nondiegetic dialogue and this supplement the actions that happen
in the film.
