often hinge on the ability for undergraduates to connect with alumni for jobs,

The Delta Sigma Phi Circle, the Fraternity's online community, will help to change that!
Brothers can join The Circle, and in doing so are helping to create a web of brothers
who can connect in order to network for future career
changes, learn from one another, and perhaps even develop
friendships with Delta Sigs from other chapters.

The power of The Circle is only realized however if there is an active and vibrant
community utilizing it often. Currently, with 3,600 members, the Fraternity is only
scratching the surface in making networking a real benefit of membership. We need
your help!

Spring 2008 Issue of The Carnation in the Mail and Online

The Spring 2008 issue of The Carnation magazine is currently in the mail, and should
be arriving in your mailbox shortly if it hasn’t yet. We hope you enjoy taking a look at
this issue, the theme of which is how Delta Sigs are making a tremendous impact
across the world. We urge you to check out the
Feature story entitled “Making an Impact: Delta Sigs
Have Left Tremendous Legacies Across the Country”
which features ten buildings named for Delta Sigs. In
addition, you will read about brothers helping brothers,
brother helping others, a Delta Sig who was nominated
for the National Teacher of the Year, and Delta Sigs
who have made impacts as university presidents and
professional football coaches.

Statement on Recent Incidents at San Diego State University

Delta Sigma Phi made an official statement regarding the recent incidents at San Diego
State University. Please see below for that statement:

As a leader in the interfraternal community, Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity is concerned


about the events that transpired yesterday at San Diego State University. The actions of
those involved are not consistent with what this organization or the fraternal movement
represents.

Since learning of these events, the Fraternity has been in contact with the Gamma
Alpha Chapter, local volunteers and the University. Based on each of those
conversations, there has been no evidence to suggest that the Gamma Alpha Chapter
or any of its members are involved with these events.

Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity expects its chapters and members to adhere to the
organization’s Risk Management Policies and member Code of Conduct at all times.

Delta Sig Alumnus Wins Pulitzer Prize

In April, Steve Fainaru, Missouri ’81, was honored with journalism's highest honor, a
Pulitzer Prize, in the International Reporting category. Fainaru, a reporter for the
Washington Post who has covered the War in Iraq since 2004, won the award for his
heavily reported series on private security contractors in Iraq that operate outside most
of the laws governing American forces. He was also a finalist for the same award in
2006, and joined five other Washington Post departments or writers in winning 2008

Inaugural Dallas/Fort Worth Alumni Golf Outing a Success

Approximately 60 brothers from a number of different chapters took part in the inaugural
Dallas/Fort Worth area alumni golf outing on Monday, April 21 at the Waxahachie
Country Club in Waxahachie, TX south of Dallas. The
extremely successful event, which included a lunch,
the outing itself, and a post-golf awards ceremony was
spearheaded by a committee of brothers in the local
area. The brothers are already planning a second
annual event for next year, and are planning additional
events for throughout the remainder of the year for
local brothers. For more information, please contact

Delta Sig Alumnus Named Outstanding Advisor

Ted Lord, a 2006 initiate of the Eta Eta Chapter at RIT and university professor, was
named Outstanding Advisor by the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life in conjunction
with the Rochester Institute of Technology’s Greek Council at their awards ceremony on
Thursday, April 24, 2008. Congratulations to Brother Lord and the Brothers from Eta

Epsilon Delta Chapter Holds Three State Walk to Raise Money for Injured
Professor

The Epsilon Delta Chapter at UW Platteville recently completed a Philanthropy/Benefit


walk for a professor on its campus that was in an automobile accident. The chapter
collected donations from businesses, and members of the local and campus
communities, raising nearly $3,500. In addition, to show that the chapter was not only
collecting money, they also completed a three state walk. Starting at the chapter house
in Platteville, 13 members and friends walked to East Dubuque, IL, then into Dubuque,
IA, and circled back, stopping to see the professor, before arriving back at the house.
From the Friday of the event at 6:00 pm until Sunday at 5:00 pm, they had walked a
total of 46 miles. According to chapter president Stephen Shelley, “Not only was this a
great way to help a family, it bonded us more as brothers too.”

Alpha Chi Chapter Wins Awards on Campus

At its recent campus awards ceremony, the Alpha Chi Chapter at Stetson University
received two prestigious awards. It was named Fraternity of the Year and received the
Chancellor’s Cup for the most community service hours on campus for the second

straight year.

Epsilon Iota Chapter Holds Teeter Totter Event to Raise Money for AIDS Center

The Epsilon Iota Chapter at UW LaCrosse recently held its campus’ 14th annual Teeter-
Totter-A-Thon. The event was co-sponsored by the Gamma Sigma Sigma Service
Sorority on campus, and raised $2,000 for the AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin.
Congratulations to the brothers on their work.

Zeta Upsilon Chapter Holds March of Dimes Fundraiser

The Zeta Upsilon Chapter's philanthropy for the spring semester, which raised money
for the March of Dimes, raised nearly $3,000, a $300 increase over last year. According
to chapter member John Isom, “Good weather and a good turnout for the event boosted
the Eureka community's effort to raise money for research in the prevention of birth
defects and infant mortality. The chapter participated in in-town and out-of-town walk
arounds, raising money door to door from residents of Woodford County and the
surrounding area.” The chapter also hosted its 24-hour teeter totter event on the front
lawn of the Eureka court house, where the members collected donations and teeter-
tottered on a giant see-saw from 2pm on Saturday to 2pm on Sunday. [return to top]

Attn: Chapters and Colonies: Accreditation Deadline


Approaching

The deadline for chapters and colonies to submit the 2007-08 Accreditation document
is June 30, 2008. The results of this document will be used for chapter awards,
including the prestigious Pyramid of Excellence, as well as the overall assessment of
chapters and colonies. In addition, the document will be used to help develop action
plans for chapters and colonies to ensure success. Completion of this document is
required of ALL chapters and colonies, and failure to submit an Accreditation document
will result in a $500 fine.

Chapters receiving the Pyramid of Excellence will receive a one-time $25 per man dues
discount in the Fall 2008-09 dues assessment. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to
have your chapter recognized as one of our Fraternity’s best.
