Foundation laid for 800 MW power plant


The foundation stone for the 800 MW Stage III of the North
Chennai Thermal Power Station at Athipattu in Tiruvallur district
was recently laid by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.

The construction of the plant, which would be set up at a total


cost of Rs. 6,376 crore, is expected to commence operation in
August 2017 and generate 19.2 million units of power per day, according to an official
release.
The foundation stone was laid by Ms. Jayalalithaa through a video conference on
Friday from the Secretariat.

2. India's 1st railway university to come up in Gujarat


Vadodara will be home to the country's first railway university,
minister of state for railways Manoj Sinha has said

Sinha, who is on a two days visit to Gujarat, said on Saturday


that the state government was helping Indian Railways identify
land to set up a full-fledged railway university.

The ministry of human resource development has worked out detailed modalities for
this and it will be soon placed in Parliament for approval.

India's top software exporters have joined the likes of Google and
Salesforce to support US President Barack Obama's just announced
$4-billion 'Computer Science for All' initiative that aims to
dramatically increase the number of children with access to

computer science training in the US and build a more technologically advanced nation.

Tata Consultancy Services Wipro and Infosys have made investments as part of a
public private partnership through a National Science Foundation (NSF), which will
put in $120 million to support and train computer science teachers in schools, a
statement from the White House said late on Saturday night.

4. Indian Women's Cricket Team Create History By Beating Australia To Win The
First Twenty-20 Series
The Indian women's cricket team scripted history today by
clinching its maiden Twenty-20 series win over three-time world
champion Australia.

India beat Australia 2-1 in 3 Match T-20 series.


Jhulan Goswami was declared Player of the series.

India beat Australia by seven wickets in the third and final Twenty20 match at the Sydney Cricket Ground to win the series 3-0.

Novak Djokovic crushed Andy Murray 6-1, 7-5, 7-6(3) at
Melbourne Park on Sunday to match Roy Emersons record of six

7. Release of Nathuram Godse book on Gandhi's birth anniversary sparks controversy


Newly formed Goa Forward party has opposed the release of a book on
Mahatma Gandhi 's killer Nathuram Godse on the death anniversary of the
Father of the Nation.

The book, titled 'Nathuram Godse - The Story of an Assassin' and


written by Anup Ashok Sardesai ,to be released at the governmentowned Ravindra Bhavan in Margao by BJP leader and the bhavan's chairman
Damodar Naik.
