Approval of Revisions to Policy GCQC,
Resignation of Professional Staff Members
(second reading)
Assistant Superintendent Denise Bartlett presented the
second reading on proposed changes to the districts
current policy on resignation of professional staff
members. The revisions will provide clarity regarding
the boards position on the resignation of any staff
member employed under a contract agreement.
Specific language provides the Superintendent with the
final word on the recommendation of a resignation if
the departure of the employee is in the best interest of
the district, and makes it clear that the board will notify
the State Board of Education requesting disciplinary
action if an employee abandons a contract. The
governing board approved the revisions to the policy
as presented.
Approval of Proposed Revisions to Policy JQ,
Regulation JQ-R and Exhibit JQ-E, Student Fees,
Fines, and Charges (second reading)
Associate Superintendent Mary Jo Conery, reviewed
the proposed revisions. At the first reading on January
26, the board requested clarification about the notice of
proposed fees that needs to be given to parents before
the governing board acts to adopt such fees. Dr.
Conery reviewed A.R.S.-342 (24) which states that
fees assessed for both optional extracurricular
activities and for high school Fine Arts, and Career and
Technical Education course shall be adopted after
notice has been given to all parents of students
enrolled at schools in the district. The governing board

approved the proposed changes as amended and

approved the elimination of Exhibit JQ-E, as presented.
Consideration of Revisions to Policy JEB,
Regulation JEB-R and Exhibit JEB-E, Entrance Age
Requirements (first reading)
Dr. Bartlett presented the proposed revisions. Arizona
statute states, A governing board may issue and
provide a certificate of promotion to pupils whom it
promotes from eighth grade of a common school.
Students sometimes move into the district without a
certificate of promotion from eighth grade. In those
instances,
Dr.
Bartlett
reported
the
district
administration believes that other evidence of
promotion, such as an official transcript or report card,
is acceptable that a student has successfully
completed the eighth-grade. The recommended
language would be as follows: or other evidence of
promotion, such as an official transcript or report card
to allow for the instances when a certificate of
promotion is not available.
Consideration of Revisions to Policy JF, Student
Admissions (first reading)
Dr. Bartlett presented the proposed revisions to the
policy. The current working in policy JF requires a
student to obtain a certificate of promotion to be
admitted into the high school. The administration
recommends adding the following language or other
evidence of promotion, such as an official transcript or
report card to the policy that will allow for the
instances when certificates of promotion are not
available to admit a student.
2016 Arizona Legislation / Governmental Activity
Board members discussed the latest legislative
information regarding JTED and the restoration of its
funding. Both the Arizona Senate and House are
expected to pass bills this week that restore funding.
