HUNTERSVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT

MEDIA RELEASE

Release of 2015Crime Statistics

Media Release Number: 160210-01

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 10, 2016
HUNTERSVILLE, NC:

On Wednesday, February 10, 2016 the Huntersville Police Department released their annual crime statistics
for 2015.
The Huntersville Police Department maintains crime statistics compiled under the Uniform Crime Report
(UCR) that are submitted both to the State and F.B.I. for comparison to other cities statewide and nationally.
A review of this information revealed that in 2015 Huntersville experienced a decrease in its reported Part I
crimes (10.1%) as compared to 2014 statistics. Historically, these are the lowest crime statistics that
Huntersville has experienced since 2002.
The crime statistics from 2015 are another example of the tireless work our sworn, civilian and volunteer
staff complete to protect the Town of Huntersville, and this could not have been accomplished without the
help of a vigilant and engaged community.
Moving forward, it will take cooperation between the Huntersville Police Department and Huntersville
citizens and businesses to ensure the crime rate remains low. The Huntersville Police Department encourages
citizens and business owners to continue to report suspicious activity as it happens.

Although the crime rate is at an historical low, traffic issues continue to increase throughout Huntersville. As
our population continues to grow the issues of traffic congestion and crashes increase annually. The
Huntersville Police Department will continue to address these issues through education, engineering, and
enforcement efforts and through partnerships with the community, businesses and other local and state
agencies. Although the number of pending road construction projects in this area is increasing, we feel that
by encouraging the motorists to stay vigilant, reduce their distractions, increase their following distance and
abide by the posted speed limits, the number of traffic crashes in Huntersville will decrease.
