Cable Car

LOCATION
The Cable Car system is the latest tourist attraction for Langkawi and is
located at the Oriental Village, a theme shopping centre housed in 30s
individually designed buildings showcasing Malaysian and Oriental
architecture.
The attraction located on the southwestern coast of the main island of
Langkawi, is just a 30 minutes drive from Kuah town and 15 minutes drive
from Langkawi International Airport.

ATTRACTIONS
Base Station
The Base Station is conveniently located at the Oriental Village (at the foot
hill of the Machincang mountain range). This integration between the
Oriental Village and the Gunung Machincang forest reserve complements
each other to higher mutual benefit.
From here, visitors will be taken up to the cool Machincang range via the
Langkawi Cable Car on new and modern gondolas giving the visitors
panoramic views of the surroundings forests, the Telaga Tujuh (Seven Wells)
waterfalls as well as the sea.
Visitors will glide above verdant rainforests and the ride itself will be
exhilarating experience. They will also be able to catch glimpses of eagles,
hornbills and assortment of birds and wild life along the route up.
Middle Station
An intermediate Cable Car station on the eastern ridges provides the much
desired access to the eastern cliffs with its 3 vertical chimneys and the
beautiful 360-degree views. For the first time, visitors would be able to

observe at close range the unique rock formations geological features of the
Machincang range, which was formed 500 million years ago during the
Cambrian period, in geological terms.
The journey from the Base Station to Middle Station will cover 1,700 meters
in length and upon reaching the Middle Station at an elevation of 650m
above sea level, visitors will be able to alight and walk up to the viewing
platforms.
Visitors will enjoy panoramic view of the main island as well as the many
surrounding islands. They will also be able to observe at close range the
unique flora on the ridges and the forested valley between the Middle Station
and the Top Station. After enjoying the beautiful view, visitors will then
board back the gondolas, which will take them another 450 meters up to the
Top Station.
Top Station
A short walk up the stairs from the Top Station will take visitors to the two
(2) viewing platforms at the top of Gunung Machincang, the climax of the
trip. Visitors will be amazed at the unfolding dramatic views from the
platforms, the many unique and exciting features of Machincang, are
dominating rock tower peaks providing spectacular 360-degree panoramic
views of the Langkawi islands, Kedah and Southern Thailand as well as
dramatic views of the deep chasms, overhangs cliff walls, isolated pinnacles
and some caves. Such nature monuments are seldom seen anywhere else in
this combination except in Langkawi.
The over-ruling height of Gunung Machincang (708m), its commanding
views over Langkawi, the western sea-coast, and the dramatic views over
the funnel with its staggered rock blocks will make the visitors wonder in
amazement and bring the visitors so close to nature that they can practically
touch it!
A cafe at the Top Station offers delicious refreshments and unbeatable views
with refreshing cool breezes, which allow visitors to enjoy Sunsets at 708m
above sea-level is about 5 degrees (+/-) cooler than lowlands.

SkyBridge
Completed in 2004, this suspended bridge is built on top of the Machinchang
mountain. Accessible from the Top Station, the bridge is suspended from a
82m high single pylon and hangs at about 100m above ground. It swings out
over the landscape to give visitors a unique spatial experience, and to bring
them into otherwise unattainable locations, above virgin jungle with
spectacular views. Notably, in contrast to a straight bridge, where the end is
always monotonously in sight, a curved bridge offers spectacularly changing
perspective that reinvent themselves, as one proceeds along it.
Measuring at 125m in length, the structure ranks among the worlds longest
curve suspension bridge and constructing it was not an easy feat as the
solutions had to factor the following critical elements; structural balancing
from a single point (top of the pylon), optimal weight management and load
distribution, pre-fabrication of bridge and on site installation. The entire
bridge, in all its elements had to be lifted to the top of the mountain by
helicopter and was later assembled to its current position.
SkyPos
A new initiative by Panorama Langkawi in collaboration with Pos Malaysia to
offer visitors to our picturesque mountaintop destination the opportunity to
share their 'I was here' moment with their loved ones back home by posting
a postcard, letter or greeting card via a specially placed Pos Malaysia post
box at the Top Station, atop Mt Machinchang.
This SkyPos post box located 708 metres above sea level is the first of its
kind in Malaysia. The postcards sent home from here by visitors and tourists
will undoubtedly not only promote Panorama Langkawi's attractions such as
the SkyCab and SkyBridge it will also promote Langkawi and Malaysia as a
whole to local and foreign recipients of this post.
The postcards & greeting cards will feature mountain top views of Langkawi
and also macro shots of local flora and fauna, shot by specially
commissioned photographers. We also intend to feature winning photos from
specially organised photo contests hosted at the mountain top.
Panorama Langkawi will offer a special writing station to write cards along
with stationary, visitors can also choose to write the postcards while taking
the ride in the cable cars.

This initiative is also to increase and support the usage of traditional post via
POS Malaysia in this era of email. The launching ceremony was officiated by
honored guest from POS Malaysia and the COO Panorama Langkawi, Encik
Ebi Azly Abdullah.
