MBR300 ROTATING BEACON
1 GENERAL DESCRIPTION.
The beacon, model MBR 300, is a medium and long range marine rotating beacon for
remote solar installations on and offshore, able to reach 31 nautical miles.
Its particular design, optimum optical efficiency and manufacturing materials, such as
UV stabilised acrylic lenses, glass and anodized aluminium, compound a watertight
beacon very resistant to corrosive marine environment, with minimum maintenance.
All related IALA Recommendations are met.

the rotating speed and also will require the use of the black panels instead of lenses in
order to obtains group of flashes Fl(2) Fl(3).
To select the different lenses configuration and speed you will use the table annex in
the next pages.
To set the beacon speed, it is necessary to access to the control board located at the
base of the beacon.
For that purpose, open the beacon from the bottom part.
The setting of the beacon, model MBR300, can be performed through a computer and
adjusting the positions of the DIP microswitches of the control board.
To access to the PPC control board, follow these instructions:
1- Open the beacon from the bottom part.
Remove the six screws with a screwdriver and with the care not to damage the
paint of the base of the beacon.
2- Open the control box of the beacon.
The base of the MBR300 beacon contains a control card where the regulation
circuit is located.
Open the top of the box with a 5mm flat screwdriver.

The flash character configuration in the rotating beacon will require the configuration in
the rotating speed an also will require the use of the black panels instead of lenses in
order to obtains group of flashes Fl(2) Fl(3).
The lenses and the black panels have to be replaced accessing from the upper part of
the
beacon, and following the steps:
- Unscrew the stainless steel bird spike.
- Remove the conic top, pulling it up.
- Rotate manually the lenses cage, until achieve the access which permit to remove
one lens pulling it up.
- Introduce the new lens pushing it till the bottom. Insure that it has been introduced
completely to enter into contact with the lower ring.
- Replace the lenses avoiding the contact with the fingers, thus we recommend the use
of thin gloves which avoid leaving fingerprints or marks onto the lenses plastic.
- The process with all lens and black panels is the same.
- Close the beacon after replacing all the elements.

LAMP VOLTAGE
To measure the voltage of the lamp, a multimeter has to be used in order
to make measures for true RMS in alternative and continuous (True RMS
AC+DC), since this voltage is modulated by pulses (PWM). However, the
value measured at DC with a conventional digital multimeter will
correspond to an average value, and not to the effective one, and could
have important mistakes.
POLARITY
In case of power supply connection with reversed polarity, the two
outputs of the flasher will be activated, so the lampchanger will be
also activated or the two lamp filaments will switch on.

3 MAINTENANCE
CAUTION
NEVER make internal beacon maintenance operations
under DC supply
ALWAYS remove the power supply.
Turn slightly the set flasher/lampchanger until release it from the screws in order to
extract it out of the lenses. Caution with not to hit the lamps.
Place the set on the control box and replace the fused lamps.
CAUTION
NEVER touch the clear envelope of a Quartz Halogen lamp with bare
fingers. The oil from your skin will damage the lamp glass after it is
heated and will fail in a very sort time in service.
under DC supply. Use plastic gloves for handling.

To check the lamp focusing, you will have to place the beacon on a levelled surface,
close the beacon and look through a lens, you shall visualize the centre of the lamp
filament with the centre of the black panel, indicated by the hole. The process has to be
repeated at least in two directions to ensure the focus onto the axes x-y.
The alignment and focusing of the lamps is ESSENTIAL to obtain the maximum
luminous performance.
In case of lamchanger replacement the new unit had changed the lamp position, it will
be necessary a new focusing. You will need to regulate the levelling ring position by
tightening up the three bolts described by means of a flat screwdriver of 4 mm, by
blocking the screws and tightening the nut to compress or enlarge the spring.

USER MANUAL
MBR300 ROTATING BEACON
The focusing only can be checked with the lenses in a vertical position, therefore all
changes in the adjustment require to open and close the beacon.
-It is advisable to clean the lens cover outer face every two months, although this task
depends on the beacon operational conditions, so that period may be extended or
shortened at the responsible criteria.
Never use alcohol or petrol derived products to clean they will damage the gals
sealants, plastics and paints. USE ONLY NEUTRAL SOAP AND WATER.
The lens panels should be cleaned every 12 months with an antistatic soap solution, in
order to avoid easy dust adherence. Likewise, the lens cover inner face should be
cleaned.
The lens panels can be removed from the beacon pulling from the lens array top side,
and can be easily cleaned out of the beacon.
Be careful about that neither water nor wetness comes into the beacon during the
maintenance operations, to avoid possible condensation in the optical elements. In
case of external humidity, it is advisable the use of silica gel, by putting one or two
bags into the base so that they can absorb possible condensations.
The next parts are recommended to be replaced under a regular maintenance program
and will contribute to keep the original beacon performances and service quality.
Replacement every 7 years:
- Ventilation Valve M12x1.5 GoreValve.
- O-Ring seal lantern base
- Bird spike rubber Washer
Replacement every 10 years:

5 TROUBLESHOOTING
In case of malfunction of a beacon, we recommend the following:
Before proceeding to do any tests, check that the power supply is correctly functioning
at the correct voltage and that the wiring operates properly.
If the motor rotation is stopped or irregular, the PPC02 board must be tested.
Once all the general considerations have been taken into account and ruled out, the
following malfunctions and their possible reasons must be considered:
1)
The rotation speed exceeds the programmed speed.
Possible reasons:
a) Wrong Speed selection with the microswitches.
b) Malfunction in the PPC02 Board.
Solutions:
a) Select the rotation speed according to the table.
b) Replace the faulty board using a new spare part.
2)
The rotation speed is lower that the programmed speed.
Possible reasons:
a) Wrong Speed selection in the microswitches.
b) Malfunction in the PPC02 Board.
c) Malfunction in the motor or elastic coupling.
Solutions:
a) Select the rotation speed according to the table.
b) Replace the faulty board using a new spare part.
c) Check the screw tightness in the elastic coupling and motor.
d) Check the motor wiring and connectors.
e) Replace the motor.
3) The rotation stopped and lamp ON/OFF according to the Daylight Photocell.
