Principles of Instructional Technology
Professional journals are sources of information comprised of peer reviewed articles and
which are sometimes affiliated with a professional association. In this paper will be discussed a
professional journal, the International Journal on E-Learning, published by the Association for
the Advancement of Computing in Education (AACE). Other aspects include the frequency of
publication, intended audience, affiliated organization, editors, cost, publication guidelines,
manuscript acceptance rate, and subjects covered by the journal.
Frequency of Publication
The International Journal on E-Learning (IJEL) is a quarterly publication. The months of
publication vary from year to year (International Journal on E-Learning, n.d.).
Intended Audience
The International Journal on E-Learning (IJEL) is designed for leaders in the field of ELearning including, researchers, developers, and practitioners in corporate, government,
healthcare, and higher education (International Journal on E-Learning, 2013, para. 2).
Affiliated Organization
The International Journal on E-Learning (IJEL) is one of many journal publications
placed forth by Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education (AACE)
(International Journal on E-Learning, 2013).
Editors
The editor for the International Journal on E-Learning is Gary Marks. There are 74
members of the editorial review board spanning across the globe including Dr. Gertrude (Trudy)
Abramson from Nova Southeastern University, Joan K. Anderson from Cal State, Madhumita
Bhattacharya from Athabasca University, Kent Crippen from the University of Florida, and
Kathleen Ireland from the University of Hawaii (IJEL Review Board, 2013).
Cost
The subscription cost for the IJEL is inclusive of AACE membership costs. AACE
members may select one journal subscription as a part of their membership. The cost for an
AACE professional membership is $125.00. The cost for an AACE student membership is
$45.00. Professional members may also subscribe to the EdITLib digital repository for a
subscription fee of $175.00. Students may subscribe to the EdITLib digital repository for a
subscription fee of $75.00 (Membership Options & Benefits, 2016). Library and institution may
purchase a subscription for the International Journal on E-Learning (IJEL) for $210.00 (Library
Subscription Form, 2016).
Publication Guidelines
Journal contributions may be in the format of a research paper, case study, evaluation,
review paper, viewpoints and courseware experiences (AACE Journal Submission, 2016).
Manuscripts must be the original work of the author and portray a coherent process of thought.
Manuscript content including tables, charts, graphs, citations and references should adhere to
APA style as outlined in the most current edition of the American Psychological Association
manual (AACE Journal Submission, 2016). Manuscripts must be free from spelling and
grammatical error and follow a logical pattern of sentence structure and form.
Manuscripts should be submitted in electronic format as a word document or rich text
format. Manuscripts should not exceed 30 pages and also include headers to organize content. A
75-200 word abstract should be included with submission. All effort should be made to submit a
blind manuscript with no identifiable author information present. Technical terminology should
be defined within the manuscript. Citations and references should follow the guidelines as set
forth by the American Psychological Association (AACE Journal Submission, 2016).
