PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Corning Inc., Corning, New York Sep 2008 - Till Date

Role: Software Engineer
Project Name: Human Resources Talent Development

This website was designed as a way to standardize Talent Management initiatives in

Corning. The idea was to streamline the process of talent development among
employees, the goal was to make it as easy as possible for employees to work with
their managers in determining where their talents lie.

Employees use the site to study various role profiles available in various
departments/ fields of the company. They then take some assessments that
determine which role is a good fit for them. They work closely in conjunction with
their managers for this.

Responsibilities:
Was a prominent figure in the planning phase of the project. Was involved in
meetings with the Project Manager and Business Analyst and provided valuable
input towards designing the website.
Analyzed the requirements to come up with the best possible solution.
Collaborated with other members to design the web site and bring life to the pages.
Created and programmed web pages using ASP.NET 2.0 with Visual Basic 2005 as
the code behind.
Incorporated Telerik and Rad Controls in the webpages to enhance user interactivity.
Worked with CSS/HTML to make the pages look sharp and professional.
Code was maintained under source control using Team Foundation Server (TFS) for
Microsoft Visual Studio 2005.
Worked with Adobe Photoshop to enhance important images and size them correctly
to give an overall aesthetic effect.
Performed an intense testing of the website to make sure the product is of the
highest quality before submittal to the customers.

Environment:
ASP.NET 2.0, Visual Basic 2005 (VB.NET), TFS 2005, HTML, SQL Server 2000/ 2005,
Java Script, Telerik and Rad Controls ver 2008

Corning Inc., Corning, New York June 2008 - Sep 2008

Role: Web Services Support Personnel

Most of the internal websites of Corning were created using SharePoint. Others were
created using VB.NET 2003 with ASP.NET 1.1 or Visual Basic 2005 with ASP.NET 2.0.
Some sites were created using ASP and VB Script. Sites created using legacy code
sometimes broke and needed to be repaired. Worked with team members to fix
many of these sites and the issues associated with them. Some of the sites that I
supported are as follows:

Bids and Transfers - This enabled users to bid on jobs currently available in the
various plants of Corning and to transfer their jobs from one location to another.
This site was created using VB.NET 2003 and ASP.NET 1.1. Code was under source
control using Microsoft Visual Source Safe. Fixed a major issue with this site working
with another team member and interacting with the customer throughout the
process.

Corning Display Technology - This is the site that Corning uses to sell its glass
products (like LCDs) and fiber glass products (like fiber glass cables). This site was
created using VB.NET 2003 and ASP.NET 1.1.

ACE Support Documents - As the name suggests, this is a website used to hold all
the support documentation for the various Corning internal websites. The site was
created using ASP Classic, HTML and VB Script.

Responsibilities:
Primary responsibility was to ensure that all the websites of Corning ran smoothly
without any hitches.
Used Clarify to accept incoming cases.
Interacted with customers through phone or email to discuss about the problems
they were having with the websites.
Worked together with other members of the team in granting read/write/change
access to various users of the SharePoint sites that formed an integral part of
Corning.
Used Active Directory to search for users in various groups when there were website
access problems. This frequently involved Remoting into the server (Using Microsoft
Terminal Services Client) where the web pages were kept and seeing which Windows
groups had read/write access to it and then using AD to search for the particular

user to see if they were part of the group. Frequently worked with other members
on the team to solve these kinds of problems.
Performed code migrations for various developers. Code migration involved
transferring compiled and tested code from a Development environment to a
Production environment. This again involved Remoting into the Production server
using Remote Desktop (MSTSC) and copying files or using batch jobs to transfer
files. There were two types of Production servers, those running Windows 2000 and
those running Windows 2003.
Performed IIS Resets/Reboots of servers when they became stuck or were utilizing
too much memory. This involved Remoting into servers using Remote Desktop and
resetting the IIS there. IIS versions included 5.0 (Windows 2000) and 6.0 (Windows
2003).
Other websites that were created using JavaScript, VB Script or HTML faced
problems with missing pages or broken links. In such cases, Remoting into the
server was necessary. Opening the file and updating the code usually solved the
problem.

Environment:
Summary of Tools Used: Clarify eFrontOffice ver10.1, Toad 9.1, SharePoint, Remote
Desktop, SQL Server 2000/2005, Active Directory, IIS 5.0 and 6.0, Environment: ASP
