Insulation Design
Bryan

Hypothesis: Our first insulator, a soccer sock made of cotton, insulates by trapping air which
warms up, thereby keeping the bottle warm. Yet we believe the second insulator, bubble wrap,
will properly insulate the bottle more. We believe this because air is an insulator, and because
the bubble wraps are full of air, it should keep the bottle insulated. This is similar to a thermos
because, inside the metal,

Variables: The independent variable is the insulators. The insulators are the independent
variables because what we do to the insulators, affects our temperature/results.

The dependent variable is the temperature because it is what we want to test.

Conclusion: Our results support our hypothesis about the insulation design. They support my
hypothesis because the difference in temperature for the control is higher than the bubble wrap's
temperature. This makes the bubble wrap an effective insulator because the temperature did not
lose as much heat as the control.

According to our class results, the bubble wrap and group 3 's foils were the best
insulators. They were probably the best insulators because of the design of the insulator, rather
than the materials. I think this because group 3 and 4 had the same materials and used the same
amount of layers, but group 3's was the better insulator.

Our insulator, the bubble wrap, was an effective insulator because the bubble
wrap wrapped around the bottle and covered most of it. The air particles that are trapped between
the bubble wrap and the bottle are constantly in contact with each other. This transfers the heat
from the bottle to the air particles more quickly. For example, there was a rock underneath a
plastic cup, the air particles inside the cup will hit the rock for a brief moment, take a little bit of
heat, and bounce off. If the rock was covered in plastic, the air particles will constantly be in
contact with the rock and will constantly transfer heat. The same cycle is happening in our
insulator. This is the reason why our insulator is an effective one.
