Large Truck Crashes

Require Immediate
Investigation
Crashes involving large trucks are among the most serious and most deadly in the United States. Trucking companies are
required to follow Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations concerning their equipment and their drivers hours of service.
Driver fatigue is a common problem, as hours of service regulations are routinely violated. Careful examination of records
after a crash often show serious and even fraudulent violations of those safety regulations. However, trucking companies
sometimes only maintain these records for a limited amount of time. Without obtaining those records before they are destroyed, the injured person or survivors of a person killed in a truck wreck has a much more difficult time proving the trucking
companys fault. At Shannon Law Group, P.C., we recognize that handling these cases requires a thorough understanding of
commercial vehicle regulations on both the federal and state level. In a previously reported case, we were able to prove that
the driver of a large truck violated hours of service before killing two drivers and permanently injuring our client. The thorough
and timely review of the evidence was critical to our clients case. In a case resolved this year, our investigation revealed that
the defendant driver of a commercial trailer was not even licensed to haul the extended load he was carrying. The defendants
lack of skill and training resulted in a serious injury to our client. Cases like this must be investigated immediately while the
evidence is still available.

People Making a Difference

In our newsletter, we seek to highlight people who are making a
positive difference in our community and the world around us. The
focus this month is on the Poor Clares of Spokane. The Poor
Clares have been a fixture in the Pacific Northwest since 1914.
The nuns celebrated their 100th year in Spokane last year. I
recently learned that my grandparents Joe and Anne Conyard
(who were from the Spokane area) asked the Poor Clares to
pray for their family as far back as the 1920s. For over 60
years, my grandparents had a relationship with these special
women. My mother JoAnne Shannon was born in Spokane in 1929. My uncle, Fr. Jim Conyard,
S.J., who now lives in Spokane at Gonzaga University, remembers his parents asking the Poor
Clares to pray for the family. I remember my mother asking the nuns to pray for our family as well.
My mother prayed for me constantly. In my book if JoAnne Shannon believed in the power of the
Poor Clares, so do I. These humble women spend their lives praying for others constantly.

In their own words: To commit ones life to God through a life of prayer is a life of unbelievable joy. Joy
because through prayer we place our yesterdays, our todays and our tomorrows in the full security of
Gods care. We do this not only for ourselves but for the whole of creation. In prayer we place our trust that
God can change the course of the world. We live in simple confidence that God is bigger than all the problems or
obstacles set before us as individuals or the whole of humanity.

Have a prayer request? Go to their website at calledtojoy.com and request prayers or telephone them at (509) 327-4479. You
may find more background on these special women at calledtojoy.com/prayer.shtml
To top it off, the Poor Clares run a radio station called Sacred Heart Radio. You can find it at sacredheartradio.org. It beams on
the radio waves to Seattle, Spokane, Yakima, Kodiak and Olympia.
These holy women have made a big difference in the lives of my grandparents, my parents and my family. I cant think of a more
worthy charity than the Poor Clares of Spokane who have dedicated their whole life to serving others. Contributions may be

Fact is, if you lie or are deceptive to your attorney or to the insurance company about
prior injuries, the extent of your current injuries, your medical history, your criminal record,
or any other number of issues, at the very least you are going to significantly hurt your
accident caseor you may completely ruin any chance you had of collecting damages
for your injuries.
Heres the deal: insurance companies have access to tons of information about you
what injuries youve had in the past, any lawsuits youve filed, accidents, etc., and they
are good at finding details that bolster their case and hurt yours. Plus, between the Internet and social media, insurance
companies now have even more info at their disposal (yes, they can and do check sites like Facebook to see what you
are up to!).
So, be up front with your attorney. Tell him or her about your past warts and all so that there can be a plan in place
right from the start to deal with any problematic information that might exist about you. The last thing your attorney wants
is a surprise.
Also, make sure that you are as accurate and truthful as possible when filling out any medical forms (like the ones you
would fill out at your doctors office). Weve seen cases ruined because an accident victim forgot to disclose a prior injury
or exaggerated their current plight.
