ABSTRACT:
This experiment, entitled INTRODUCTION TO PSPICE, has a main purpose to
become familiar with the use and capabilities of PSpice software; to learn to use it to assist
student in the analysis of circuits, and to simulate basic electronic circuits using the said
software. The software is already installed in the computer of every station. This experiment is
divided into three parts of tasks which acquire three different types of circuit (one for each task),
such as DC Bias Point, DC Sweep, & AC Sweep or Noise, to be constructed and simulated. In
order to draw the schematics, we run the program CAPTURE. Here, it is not needed to fully use
the capacity of CAPTURE since the devices used were resistors, capacitors, diodes, transistors
and various independent/dependent sources depending on what is needed and necessary. It is
good to know that CAPTURE has extensive symbol libraries and includes a fully integrated
symbol editor for creating your own symbols or modifying existing symbols. The experiment
acquires basic procedures to assist the student and so every step was cautiously followed and
done. The required circuit made for every task was simulated and the output data was observed,
also, the needed values of components (if asked) were determined. In addition, various analyses
of electronic circuits includes frequency response, nodal voltages, branch currents, operating
point of transistors were accumulated for every task depending only on what is being ask and
what is needed. The theoretical concept for the frequency response were also observed and
calculated manually. As it was shown on the yielded data, it can be concluded that PSpice-based
experiment in learning basic power electronics circuit was conducted successfully. The results
show that the student was satisfied with this approach and therefore, we can say that the
objectives of this experiment were successfully attained.

INTRODUCTION:
OrCAD is a proprietary software tool suite used primarily for electronic design
automation (EDA). The software is used mainly by electronic design engineers and electronic
technicians to create electronic schematics and electronic prints for manufacturing printed circuit
boards. OrCAD Capture is a schematic capture application, and part of the OrCAD circuit design
suite. Unlike NI Multisim, Capture does not contain in-built simulation features, but
exports netlist data to the simulator, OrCAD EE. Capture can also export a hardware description
of the circuit schematic to Verilog or VHDL, and netlists to circuit board designers such as
OrCAD Layout, Allegro, and others. Capture includes a component information system (CIS),
that links component package footprint data or simulation behavior data, with the circuit symbol
in the schematic. Capture includes a TCL/TK scripting functionality that allows users to write
scripts, that allow customization and automation. Any task performed via the GUI may be
automated by scripts. The OrCAD Capture Marketplace enables customers to share and sell addons and design resources. Such add-ons can customize the design environment and add features
and

capabilities.

DISCUSSION:
In this experiment, the student has done the three different tasks given that manipulate the
different kinds of electronic circuit such as normal DC circuit and common emitter circuit with
the Bias Point, DC Sweep, and AC Sweep or Noise depending on what is necessary, through the
use of the PSpice software, with certain requirements and condition for each part. For the
normal DC circuit which requires the bias point, the voltage of every resistor and every node was
displayed after constructing and simulating the circuit. Here, the voltages were computed
theoretically and manually by using the formula V=IR and having values of resistors and
currents, voltages were acquired. The values that were computed manually and simulated from
the PSpice were exactly the same and at times, only vary on small decimal places. This is also
the same concept for the nodal voltages which was acquired after changing the value of DC
supply. The DC Sweep was not done and simulated in this experiment due to errors on the
procedure and the circuit given. For AC Sweep simulation, a common emitter amplifier circuit
was constructed and the frequency response and domain of this was manipulated. Here, the
frequency needed for the wave to be executed were set to 1 to 100mega having a point of 100. It
was observed that the wave acquired for this matter was a half wave.

CONCLUSION:
After conducting the experiment, the student was able to be familiar with the PSpice
software and some of its capabilities and simulate basic electronics circuits using PSpice. As for
looking from the gathered data, it can be concluded that the PSpice software is a great tool or
instrument to manipulate the basic components of a circuit including its frequency response and
domain since the output that was simulated is very similar to the theoretical concept of the circuit
given. It can also be concluded that using this program is very efficient and less time-consuming
because it gives you everything that is need for constructing a desired circuit through the built-in
functions it acquires. Also, the tools to be used for constructing and manipulating the response a
desired circuit can be easily seen from the working space which makes it very proficient to use.
The gathered data satisfy the theoretical concept and therefore, the objectives of this experiment
were successfully attained.
