Student Profile Thanks to a More than Me scholarship,
Elizabeth is now living her dream.
She is learning to read and write. Her
chances of having children at a young
age have dropped, and her risks of
being infected with HIV have dimin-
ished. Because of the education she
is receiving, she is more likely to live
a longer, healthier life, and is less
vulnerable to child labor and abuse.

This is El izabeth. She’s eight
years old. Katie met her outside of her
home, which is made of old newspaper
and tin. Elizabeth’s mom, Esther, has
a little market where she sells candles
and coal. Elizabeth is full of boundless
energy and potential. Like 61% of the
children in Liberia, her family couldn’t
afford to send her to school. The
average income for a family in Liberia
is around $180, less than the yearly
school fees for a child. The uniform,
shoes, and books cost the family
money that they just don’t have. When
Katie asked Elizabeth what she would
want if she could have anything in
the entire world, Elizabeth replied,
“To go to school!”

Spring DC Fundraiser: The DC
team is gearing up for an upcoming
spring fundraiser at the Big Hunt! Our
winter fundraiser was a huge success
with a fantastic turnout, six great
performing artists, and guest speakers,
with all the proceeds going directly
to help children in Liberia by funding

Microsoft Grant
More than Me  rec ei ved a
$7000 grant and brand new laptop
from Microsoft in February for being
one of the winners of Microsoft’s “7
Ways to Change the World” contest!
The laptop was given to founder Katie
Meyler and the grant money will be
used to support our Liberia fall scholar-
ships. Look for student updates in
