Reference Collection Evaluation/Materials Order

Evaluating the Collection:

In evaluating the reference collection at Telfair County High School media center,
I found the section to be lacking in the area of career planning. There are sixteen books
related to this subject in the media center’s circulation. Seven of these books were
published in either the 1960s or the 1070s. Four more books have been in circulation
since the 1980s and 1990s. The latest printed material on this subject is dated 2008.
Students have checked none of these older sources out in several years. It is evident,
therefore, that this area of the reference section needs to be updated. There are no
periodicals in the media center supporting this area, nor are there any nonprint sources
such as eBooks or videos relating to careers in the media center.
It is my intention to find both nonprint and print materials to help students
discover the many career options that are available to them. Students will also be able to
access a wiki pathfinder to help make planning for a bright future easier. The URL for
the wiki is:

Budget Summary:

I will need $412.08 to update and add to the media center collection to support

teachers and students as they look at career planning and goal setting. I spent a total of

$203.03 on books, $162.10 on audio/visual materials, and $46.95 on eBooks.

My intent was to add additional materials that were highly recommended and

would reach a wide range of students including minorities. To keep track of how

beneficial these purchases were, I will document circulation data after of the new
materials and compare this data with circulation data of some of the more popular titles

from last year. I will also continue to work with the teachers in each grade level to

monitor their progress in using the newly purchased materials.
