We use used to and would to talk about things that happened regularly in the
past but no longer happen now.
ie: She used to live in London when she was a girl.
ie: They would walk around with one trouser leg shorter than the other.
USED TO
Form:
He used to go fishing.
Did he use to go fishing?
He didnt use to go fishing.
Use:
We use used to to talk about activities and states.
He used to go fishing every weekend. (activity)
He used to be very shy when he was at school. (state)
WOULD
Form:
He would go fishing every weekend.
Would he go fishing every weekend?
He wouldnt go fishing every weekend.
Use:
We use would only to talk about activities.
It is usually found in WRITTEN LANGUAGE
We usually need a PAST REFERENCE in order to avoid misunderstanding ( conditional
sense)
