NCC on tour
The next few months will prove to be very busy for the NCC. With several visits
across Norway and several visits from Norwegian companies to the UK, there
will be a bit more activity across the North Sea than usual. We will also be
attending a number of events throughout the UK, including the North East
Business Exchange, where the NCC has a speaking slot to discuss all things
Norway. So if you're there, pop in to see how we can help.
This month's focus is on the renewable industry. There has been a long
standing relationship between Norway and the UK forged in oil and gas. With
the foreseeable future going to be dominated by the transition into renewable
sources of energy, the link between Norway and the UK will only grow stronger.
Building a global hub for offshore renewables
Narec, providers of R&D, consultancy, test
and demonstration facilities for the
renewable and electrical power sectors,
with its headquarters in Blyth, is a
national centre dedicated to accelerating
the deployment and grid integration of
renewable energy and low carbon
technologies, utilising wind, wave, tidal,
solar PV and thermal power.
Narec's service capabilities and internationally recognised technology
development and testing facilities are supporting regional companies,
universities and provide a hook for the North East to attract Norwegian
businesses looking to invest in the UK. In 2009, a key project highlight was the
successful construction and installation of the power take-off (PTO) system for

A green tech partner in the Oslo region

with R&D institutions and universities,
more than 700 clean tech businesses in
the region are already in the forefront in
developing technology for sun and wind power for the international needs of the
future.
"Our vision is to become one of Europe's leading green tech clusters", says
Michelsen. "Our goal is to increase the participants' speed of innovation and
opportunities for business development".
OREEC's activities are based on innovation, international cooperation, building

Ambitious Carbon Capture and Storage for North East England
One North East has today published a prospectus for the development of a
Carbon Capture and Storage Cluster (CCS) in North East England - pioneering
technology which offers major investment and job creation potential for the
North East.
The document identifies the region's strengths and future plans for CCS, whilst
making a strong case for further investment in the North East. CCS is necessary
for a number of industrial processes to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions
and is particularly vital in North East England due to the presence of the
Chemical and Process Industries, which employ an estimated 26,000 people

Hammerfest Strøm goes to the Orkneys
Norwegian technology company Hammerfest Strøm AS has received a Kr 40m
grant from the British Carbon Trust to test tidal turbines off the Orkneys. The
grant has been awarded to Hammerfest Strøm UK, and will be used to build
and test the HS1000 turbine, which is based on a prototype installed in
Kvalsundet near Hammerfest in 2003. More...

Norwegian businesses stand to benefit from an offshore wind deployment centre

being developed off the coast of Aberdeen.

Aberdeen Renewable Energy Group (AREG) says the European Offshore Wind
Deployment Centre - intended to prove new technology, installation and
operating methods to support delivery of Europe's bold plans for offshore wind
