Grade 3
The assessments used for the lesson of 5W¶s of Website Investigation include:
u
There were fourteen students in the class. From observation it seemed most of the students were able find
the 5W¶s with a little help. They were able to name the 5W¶s as a group. Of the fourteen students in the
class, three students were able to match all 5W¶s on the website match quiz, one student only matched one
correctly, one student only matched two correctly, and the remaining nine students all were able to match
three correctly but seemed to be confused on the ³What is the purpose of the website?´ and ³Why is the
information useful?´ This may have been due to the format of the assessment or the need for more
practice. Twelve of the students were able to label all the 5W¶s on the handout. All but one student
checked the ³yes´ response when answering the Ticket Out the Door question of ³I can use the 5W¶s to
find a good website.´ One student chose the ³with help´ response. Copies of the assessments follow.

! c Õaul Revere is known for warning others by yelling, ³The dritish are coming!´ He became
an American patriot whose role in the American Revolution helped America in its War for
Independence. Õaul was born to a French father who came to America at the age of 13 to work as
a silversmith. Õaul Revere learned his father¶s trade at a young age. Õaul came from a large
family of eleven brothers and sisters and had eight children of his own.
Õaul Revere wanted to help fight for American Independence. He was a member of the
Massachusetts Committee of Safety and attempted to warn soldiers and townspeople of possible
dritish invasion. He set up signals to warn them if an attack was about to happen. He was to hang
two lanterns in a church bell tower to give the Minute Men time to act against the dritish. On
April 18, 1775, the Committee of Safety found out the dritish were coming to Concord. Revere
got on a horse and rode for Lexington. There he woke up John Hancock and Samuel Adams.
When he tried to return home, the dritish captured him. They decided to let him go when he
tricked them by saying that they were surrounded by American troops ready to fight. Õaul Revere
was a patriot who helped stop the dritish plans for a surprise attack.
