TOUR OF THE EMPAC

Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute

ALBANY SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA CONCERT

Saturday, May 22, 2010

5:30 p.m. – Tours of the state-of-the-art EMPAC with capabilities in visualization,

animation, simulation, acoustics, haptics, optics, and more. See the theater and
studios as well as the acoustically optimized concert hall. Touch its Western Red
Cedar hull, one of the surprises inside this aqua structure visible from Route 787.

6:30 p.m. – Pre-Concert Conversations with David Alan Miller and guest composers
(free with concert tickets)

8:00 p.m. - American Music Festival 2010 concert by the Albany Symphony Orchestra
The world premiere of “The Lovely Sirens” and “The Fates of Man” from the
Mythology Symphony by Stacy Garrop, ASO’s “Resident Composer-Educator”.
“Incantations”, a percussion concerto by Einojuhani Rautavaara, featuring Colin
Currie, a legendary, young Scottish percussionist.
The world premiere of “Luminism” by James Primosch who was inspired by the
painters of the Hudson River School.
“Gatsby Suite” by John Harbison, ASO’s “Mentor Composer”. It’s sizzling, jazzy and
will be recorded.

Food – Light fare, provided by The Epicurean, will be sold inside at Evelyn’s Café.

Parking – Space will be available in RPI’s parking garage “near” the EMPAC.

Concert Tickets - $25 ($20 for members whose 2009-2010 dues have been paid)

Registration Deadline for the tour and/or concert - May 3! Earlier will be better. (We
may need more than the 50 balcony seats we have reserved. On May 6 we will release
our tickets that have not sold.) A registration form appears elsewhere in this mailing.

Contact person - Nancy Radick Lynk, ’52, thelynks@midtel.net or 518 439-3948.

We still appreciate Cornell’s many performance

spaces, especially Bailey Hall, renovated when
the EMPAC was under construction. Today
Bailey looks great and has wider, cushioned
seats, more legroom, and air conditioning.
Before May 3, register for the EMPAC tour and ASO Concert.

Please complete this form and mail it to Nancy Lynk, 70 Mosher Road Delmar, NY
