We have had news channels, news papers and every ones grandfather and their
dog talking about the IPL issues on money laundering, match fixing, lack of
transparency , autocratic management, political one-upmanship ,sex ,and benami
holdings over the past few weeks. What started off as a frivolous tweet from LKM on
Shashi Tharoor has snowballed in to something, which no one knows where it will
land up getting to? Must be the most damage 140 characters (limit of a single
tweet) have caused...

The controversy takes one back to a major issue i.e. governance be it be corporate
governance or governance of a body which is dealing with a large amount of money
and also playing with emotions of a large number of fans.

The IPL governance body (http://www.iplt20.com/about_goveringBody.php ) consists

of stalwarts like former cricketers Patuadi , Gavaskar, Ravi Shastri , senior
politicians Farooq Abdulla , Arun Jaitley ,BCCI representatives Rajeev Shukla ,
Sanjay Jagdale, Niranjan Shah, I S Bindra, Shashank Manohar and industrialist and
BCCI office bearer N srinivasan. These are experienced personnel who been there
done that in this world. What were they doing as part of 3 editions of IPL if all the
above was going on. Question is was LKM questioned at all by these members. If
yes what were they questioning on, was it about when samosa will be served?
These gentlemen should be as answerable to us the Indian public as much as LKM.

The franchisee owners have among them corporates like UB group (Mallya), India
Pistons ( N srinivasan), GMR group (G M Rao), Reliance Industries (Mukesh Ambani),
Deccan Chronicle , Ness Wadia in his capacity. Entertainment world super starts
Sharukh Khan, Preity Zinta, Juhi chawla, Shilpa Shetty. These are names again who
financially savvy, brand savvy and presumably prudent are. What were they doing
with all the going ons over the past 3 years?

How could an organization be run with blatant conflict of interest i.e. N Srinivasan is
BCCI, governance council member and also team owner. LKM family with fingers in
various pies of every aspect of IPL.

Question goes to what was RBI, IT department, finance ministry, Intelligence

agencies doing over the past 3 years. Why did the government give tax exemption
to a profit making venture.

Media makes a hype of everything after the event with what they term is
(exclusive). Where is their vigilantism to have things in open before they come out?
Satyam episode came to light when promoter made a statement. IPL gate is
unfolding with 140 character ego war.
Where are the systems in place to ensure things do not go out of control, dealings
are transparent and enough fuses are in place to trip if something goes wrong?

All this leads to one thing we Indians like to brush things under the carpet as much
of possible till the carpet goes out of shape and can no longer hide what be trying to
be hidden. We also like the sensation of the news item but do not bother with what
happens post the unearthing of the issues (what is happening with Ramalinga
Raju?). Unless we all wake up and get out of the chalta hai, adjust madi attitude we
will bring about our own destruction.
