ANIMALS

ENDANGERED ANIMALS

a.) Snow Leopard


- live in the steep and rocky alpine regions
of Central Asia including the Himalayan
Mountains in a cold and dry climate.
- known as the most endangered cat and the
only big cat that cannot roar.
- is the national symbol of Tatars and Kazakhs.
- is the symbol of Girl Scout Association of India.

b.) White Polar Bears


- worlds most endangered animals.
- are not actually white it just look that way.
Actually its colorless, it only look white
because each hollow hair reflects the light.

c.) Panda Bears


- the life span of a giant panda is
approximately 20 years.
- a giant panda is native to China.
A giant panda also weighs only around
150 grams or 502 at birth.
- the first panda came to the United States in 1936, a cub to a zoo in
Chicago.
ANIMALS IN THE WILD

a.)

Jaguars

- its scientific name is Panthera.


- the largest cat in the America.

b.) Hyenas
- hide extra food for later, sometimes they
even hide it underwater.
In Ancient African culture, hyenas were thought
to contain special powers. They are known as
scavengers and ferocious. Female hyenas are

generally larger and stronger than males.

c.) Elephants
- the largest animal that lives on land.
- male elephant can grow up to 13 feet.
- there are two types of elephant:
the Ancient Elephant and the African Elephant.
- they typically live for 50 to 70 years.

DOMESTIC ANIMALS / PETS

a.) Horses
- the average weight of horse is a half ton (50 kilos).
- its brain is the size of a baked potato.
- August is the official birth month of a horse.

b.) Parrots
- believe to be one of the most intelligent bird species.
- the most extinct parrot is the Sainte Marigreen.
- comes from forests in tropical zones in South
America, Australia, New Guinea, Africa and Asia.
- are fascinating and exotic animals.
These birds come in different sizes and colors.

3.) WHAT ARE VERTEBRATES?


Animals with an internal skeleton made of bone are called vertebrates
include fish, amphibians, mammals, reptiles and birds.

4.) WHAT ARE INVERTEBRATES?


Are group of animals that have no backbone, unlike animals such as reptiles,
amphibians, fish, birds and mammals who all have a backbone.
Example:

Lobsters

Octopuses

Star Fish

Sea-urchins

5.) HOW DO ANIMALS GET THEIR FOOD?


Animals get their food by the use of their body parts and other animals used
flat teeth for eating grass. Other animal uses canine teeth for tearing meat.
Birds used their beaks to get food.
Herons do not swim but they have long legs. They wade in the water to get
food.

1. Bird

Birds that eat seeds and worms have short beaks.


They use their beaks to pick and crack seeds.

2. Butterfly
Other animals have different structures
for getting food. The fly, the mosquito,
the bees and the butterflies have tiny
tubes sucking their food.

3. Frog

Frogs have long and sticky tongues.


They use it to catch flies as their food.

4. Dogs

Dogs use their fore paws as humans use their hands.


They use it also to hold bones.

5. Lions and Tigers


Lions and Tigers use their sharp claws
and teeth to get their food.

II. PLANTS
VEGETABLES

a.) Potato
- potato is the most important non-cereal crop
for feeding the world, ranking behind corn,
wheat and rice.
- potatoes are vegetables but they contain a lot of
starch (carbohydrates) that make them more
like rice, pasta and bread.
- potato has more potassium than a similar sized banana.

b.) Cabbage
- the Chinese Philosopher Confucius was
brought up in poverty and lived on a diet
of rice and cabbage.
- cabbage is one of the oldest vegetables,
dating back to 1600s. It is a low calorie
fiber-rich modified leafy vegetables.

TREES

c.) Acacia Tree


- acacias are shrubs and trees found in warm
and tropical regions of America, Europe,
Asia and Africa.
- The leaves of acacia trees are always sideways.
- Acacia tree is Australias floral emblem its name
is Golden Wattle or Acacia pycantha.
- Once known as the worlds loneliest tree.

d.) Narra Tree


- narra tree is a striking, large and strong shady tree.
- it is one of the most wanted wood for furniture.
- narra also called Asana, any of several timber
trees of the genus Pterocarpus.

e.) Pine Tree


- The bristlecone tree is the oldest living pine tree.
One specimen is 4600 years old located at Idaho.
- Pine trees provide evergreen windbreaks, green
Landscapes in winter and decorative boughs for
Christmas.
HERBAL PLANTS

f.) Malunggay
- also known as Moringa Oleifera.
Its leaves are high in Vitamin A, four times
higher than carrots.
- Malunggay leaves are popularly used
In Filipino soups and broths especially tinola.

g.) Oregano
- has a distinctive aroma and slightly bitter taste.
- has anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, and
Anti-fungal effects.
- Alternatives from natures finest organic herb.

h.) Lagundi
- is a medicinal shrub found in the Philippines.
- also known as vitex negundo, found in swamps
And grows up to 8 meters high.
- Becoming recognized as an effective herbal medicine.

WHY ARE LEAVES GREEN?


Chlorophyll is a pigment found in the thylakoid membranes of the
chloroplasts in the leaves. This makes the leaves color green. The simple

answer is that plants are green because they have green chloroplasts
(organelles that carry out photosynthesis).

HOW GREEN PLANTS MAKE FOOD?


Plants make food in their leaves. The leaves contain a pigment called
chlorophyll. Chlorophyll can make food, the plant can use from carbon
dioxide, water, nutrients, and energy from sunlight. This process is called

photosynthesis.

CORAL REEFS

Coral reefs are diverse underwater ecosystems held together by calcium


carbonate structures secreted by coral. Coral reefs are built by colonies of tiny
animals found in marine waters that contains few nutrients. Most coral reefs
are built from stony corals, which in turn consists of polyps that cluster in
groups.
