Law Enforcement Torch Run

What is LETR?
LETR for Special Olympics is the movement's largest grass-roots fundraiser and public awareness
vehicle. At its most basic level, the Torch Run is an actual running event in which officers and athletes run
the Flame of Hope to the Opening Ceremonies of local & statewide Special Olympics competitions.
Annually, more than 85,000 dedicated, compassionate and volunteer law enforcement officers participate
in the torch run throughout 35 nations, 12 Canadian provinces and 50 US States, raising more than $51
million for local Special Olympics programs in 2014 and over $500 million since its inception in 1981.
Nearly 2,000 officers representing more than 200 agencies across the state participated in the torch run
alone thats not counting the thousands more that take part in our other signature fundraisers across
the state, raising over $1.8 million right here in New York in 2015 and over $9 million since LETR NYs
inception in 1986!

Western Region Torch Runs

Starting in April, the Flame of Hope will be traveling throughout the Western Region community,
starting in Olean, making its way through Arcade, Jamestown, Fredonia, Orchard Park, Niagara
Falls, Hamburg, West Seneca, Clarence, Amherst, Tonawanda, Kenmore, Buffalo and the Bridge to
Canada. The Torch will end its journey with a ceremonial run into the 2016 State Summer Games
hosted by SUNY Brockport on June 10th.
