LUke 19:28-40 (niV)

ChoRUS 1

After Jesus had said this, he went on

ahead, going up to Jerusalem. 29As he
approached Bethphage and Bethany at the
hill called the Mount of Olives, he sent two
of his disciples, saying to them, 30Go to
the village ahead of you, and as you enter
it, you will find a colt tied there, which no
one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it
here. 31If anyone asks you, Why are you
untying it? say, The Lord needs it.

Praise Him, praise Him,

Praise Him, Praise Him,
Jesus, blessed Savior,
Hes worthy to be praised.

VeRSe 1

From the rising of the sun,

Until the going down of the same;
Hes worthy, Jesus is worthy,
Hes worthy to be praised.

ChoRUS 2

Glory, glory, in all things

give Him glory;
Jesus, blessed Savior,
Hes worthy to be praised.

VeRSe 2

God is our rock, hope for salvation,

a strong Deliverer,
in Him will I always trust.

ChoRUS 1

Praise Him, praise Him,

Praise Him, Praise Him,
Jesus, blessed Savior,
Hes worthy to be praised.

Those who were sent ahead went and

found it just as he had told them. 33As they
were untying the colt, its owners asked
them, Why are you untying the colt?
34
They replied, The Lord needs it. 35They
brought it to Jesus, threw their cloaks on
the colt and put Jesus on it. 36As he went
along, people spread their cloaks on the
road. 37When he came near the place
where the road goes down the Mount of
Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began
joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all
the miracles they had seen:
32

Blessed is the king who comes in the

name of the Lord! Peace in heaven
and glory in the highest! 39Some of the
Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus,
Teacher, rebuke your disciples! 40I tell
you, he replied, if they keep quiet, the
stones will cry out.

Fasting For The Lenten Season

As we prepare for our churchwide Lenten season fast, keep in mind our 2016 Theme The Fruit of the
Spirit: Taste and See! Our reset cards for 2016 reflect the monthly Bible scriptures that support our
theme, focusing on a separate fruit each month. For the time of our fast, they will focus on Joy and
Peace. You are encouraged to use this resource as one of your sources of inspiration during our fasting
period and beyond. Fasting is a spiritual discipline designed to deepen our relationship with Jesus Christ.
We do not fast to lose weight; we fast to be empowered by Jesus Christ. In 2016, as we seek to renew
our relationship with God, God will reveal Gods purpose and plan in your life if you dare fast, pray,
study and learn the power of quiet time. Jesus had to steal away from the crowd and spend time with
his Father in the mountains, to pray, study, reflect, meditate, and center his spirit. If fasting and prayer
were the disciplines of Jesus, should not this be followed by us? Join with us this season and witness a
breakthrough, as we fast, pray, study, reflect, meditate, and learn the power of quiet time.

Question: is fasting biblical?

Answer: Fasting is biblical. Throughout the Old
and New Testaments, fasting was used by the
people of God to prepare for a spiritual challenge,
hear Gods voice before making a major decision,
and for removing destructive forces in your life.
Fast #1 - Fasting to confront destructive forces
February 10 February 16
Eat all your meals before 6:00 p.m.
February 17 February 23
Eat only two meals, before 6:00 p.m.
February 24 March 1
Eat only one meal a day before 6:00 p.m.
March 2 March 8
Drink only juices, water, and/or tea
March 9 March 15
Eat only fruits and vegetables, before 6:00
p.m.
March 16 March 26
Slowly begin to add meat to your diet
Fast #2 The Daniel Fast (Taken from the book
of Daniel). When Daniel was captured by the
Babylonians, he asked of the Babylonians if he,
along with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego,

could fast eating only fruits and vegetables so they

would be prepared to confront the Babylonian
king.

February 10 February 16
Eat all meals before 6:00 p.m.
February 17 February 23
Eat only two meals a day, before 6:00 p.m.
February 24 March 1
Eat only fruits and vegetables, before 6:00
p.m.
March 2 March 8
Eat one meal a day before 6:00 p.m.; meat
may be added.
March 9 March 15
Eat two meals a day before 6:00 p.m.; meat
may be added.
March 16 March 26
Eat three meals a day before 6:00 p.m.

Fast #3 - Removing certain foods or items from

your diet or life. One type of fasting is to remove
certain foods from your diet, such as fried foods,
sweets, sodas, or refined sugar and/or flour.
*Please seek the advice of your primary care provider/
doctor before beginning a fast that involves restricting
food/calories and/or medication. Your doctor can help
you design a fasting plan that protects your health
and well-being. This is extremely important if you are
pregnant or have a medical condition. Medical condition
examples include, but are not limited to those who have a
chronic disease such as diabetes, HIV/AIDS, hypertension,
heart disease, cancer, inflammatory bowel disease,
recent surgery, etc.

FASTing FoR The LenTen SeASon

Question: i have never fasted before?

Answer: Consult your doctor first!* Fasting is not
the removal of all food from your diet. Fasting is
learning to discipline your mind, body and spirit
to remove something you know hinders your
ability to function at your highest capacity, from
your life or diet.

To Do Justice
Scarcely a day goes by that there is not another tragedy in the news about a
shooting, robbery, vandalism, or other crime taking place in our neighborhoods.
Much of the crime is attributable to our young men and women. While we are
searching for solutions to these problems, a proven deterrent to crime has
already been uncovered . . . A Job! Please alert any young men and women
in your circle to the opportunities available through the One Summer Chicago

Its March Madness, and for college basketball, this is the Holy Grail. But here at the Endeleo
Institute, we get excited about anything that has the word, college in front of it, because we
too have some top seeds of our own that are moving on from high school to the next round:
college life.
Check out the lineup:
Starting at Drake University is Calvin gousman from St. Rita High School
Starting at north Carolina A&T State University is Bailey haynes from Lincoln Park High
School
Starting at University of Missouri is Jarrett Mosely from Urban Prep High School
What was the game plan? Glad you asked. All of these outstanding young people participated
in our Spring Break College Bus Tour road trips to get a true feel for the competition and
determine which program was the best fit. Critically important, because African American
college students struggle to matriculate and graduate within six years; thus, traveling with your
peers (often for the first time in life) provides opportunities to bond as teammates. We know our
kids can score, but in case they miss, at Endeleo we teach them how to rebound.
Next Sunday, we head to the State of Louisiana. But you still have a chance to make the team.
Please stop in the Atrium and sign up for Louisiana, or next months tour to the State of north
