Hello h!, Upon completion of the WBG Analyst Program you could indeed apply to the YPP too.
However, note that you would have gone through a similar development curriculum so the benefits would not be
as great.
Also, at the end of the WBG Analyst Program if you came with a master's degree you could potentially meet the
eligibility criteria to apply to an officer's position which is the level Young Professionals are recruited.

Hi! I have many questions.
1) What is the application timeline for this program, including resume drop, interview dates, notification dates, and
start dates for chosen applicants?
2) What are the characteristics/personal qualities of a good candidate for this program?
3) What is the structure of the application process, particularly the interviews? Specifically, will there be case
interviews, simulations, and written tests in addition to the behavioral components?
4) What are expected outcomes of the program for candidates?
For current WB Analysts:
4) What is something you wish you knew about the program before joining?
5) What has made you successful in your role?
6) Why did you join the program?

Dear WBG representatives,
Thank you so much for the informational opportunity!
I am very interested in the Operations Department, specifically in the Cross-Cutting Solution Areas.
1) What I was wondering, if the Analyst Program allows rotation between these different cross-cutting areas
and/or between the WBG five institutions?
2) Do I have to specify the exact cross-cutting area in my application? For instance, I am very passionate about
energy governance, but also have knowledge about PP partnerships. Do I have to choose one in this case?
3) My professional experience comprises 7 months of internships and 12 months of a student job. Do I still fulfill
the professional requirement?

I have a few questions: 1) is the age requirement only for the application? 2) with my background, which area do
you suggest I should apply for? 3) should we specify the area we want to work in in our application? 4)) what is a
normal day for an analyst: draft reports, research, attend meetings etc?

Hi! I'm sorry I'm writing again. I just don't see my question in the screen and I'm not sure if it's a technical problem
or if you just haven't got to it yet. I know you are answering a looot of questions right now, so please don't get me
wrong, I just want to make sure if my question was received. I'll copy it here:
Hi! I would like to be sure about some things:
1. I was checking the application form and I am not sure about in what moment am I supposed to choose the 2
areas. Is there a specific part for that? Or am I supposed to only mention it in my cover letter?
2. Right after the description of the Cross-Cutting Solution Areas in the web it says "A Masters degree is required
to apply". Is that a mistake? Because I thought that as a Bachelor I could also apply and I don't recall reading that
in last year's description, but I am not sure.
3. Can I mention internships and volunteer or unpaid experience to complete the 1-3 years that are required? And
if I've also worked midtime as a private tutor in Science classes for children (freelancer), should I also mention
that? Or would that be irrelevant?
Thank you very much for your time and patience!,

part of your experience. Unfortunately private tutoring for children will not count. Hope this answer your questions.

will there be greater transparency this time in terms of the process.

Many of us applied for Operations and Communications last year and we passed the numerical and reasoning
exam stage with a "further consideration" email - next thing we knew in November 2015 we were told on the
website that the positions were filled. My question is, how do we know this won't happen again? As in will we be

Hi there, I am interested to apply for this programme. I am currently working as a Trainee Solicitor in Hong Kong. I
have an undergraduate degree in Business (Major in Finance) and a postgraduate degree in Law. I have done an
internship with United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative and I am most interested to join the
Climate Change team in World Bank.
1. Can any of the analysts in this live chat share your experience when you are going through the application
process? For example, your interview experiences, what type of questions are being asked, your personal
background, and from hindsight, how did you impress your interviewers?
2. Do you think the application process are stricter on CV screening or interview screening? Some organizations
screen a lot of CVs away in the early stage of application. Those candidates who make it to the interview stage
are very likely to get a job offer. What is the situation at World Bank?
3. Questions for climate change team analysts: do you think your team need people with skill sets about law and
private finance? I have solid legal training and practice experience, however my legal experience is mostly limited
to insurance sector due to my firm's practice. Also, would a CFA qualification be helpful?
4. I am a Hong Kong citizen and I am not in the list of eligible countries. Can Hong Kong citizens be counted as
Chinese citizens? (China is eligible)
5. Will the 2017 cohort start straight in February 2017?
Thanks very much for answering my questions!

required to apply" applies to all operations speciality or just the cross cutting solution areas. Thanks!

Hello everyone!
I see that one of the requirements is "One to three years of work experience in one or more specialty areas"
I have worked in finance but only in the private sector, particularly in the Derivatives market. Would that be
considered relevant for the WBG?
Thank you in advance for your answer.

Since the experience requirement is between 1-3 years of experience, you should highlight those areas for
consideration that meet the vacancy description.

knowledge sharing that spans over different GPs and I am interested in applying for the Operations stream. Do I

Thank you for opportunity! My questions are:
1) How detailed should be our CV? I have one page resume, which omits a lot of details (i.e. coursework,
workshops, volunteer experience). How many pages would you recommend to have in max?
2) I am interested in 3 global practice areas, which are closely related to my major and work experience. Should I
be specific about that in my statement of purposes?
3) How many GP and CCS should we select?

Hi Nargyz, 1) We would advise that the CV be no more than two pages long and details the relevant experience
only. 2) Indeed in your letter of interest you can indicate your primary interest for 3 GPs. 3) You do not need to
specify which GPs or CCSA you are mostly interested in but if you do this interest should be reflected in your prior
experience/education major.

At the Climate Change Cross Cutting Solutions Area (CCSA), analysts have been involved in climate finance and
climate change policy. Specifically, we have been involved in the preparation of briefs, climate finance
presentation and analysis, monitoring and evaluation of corporate systems within the bank and also assisting with
different assignments in other practices. In a nutshell, the experience is extremely varied and a huge degree of
flexibility is given to the analysts

(1) I will get PhD degree by this December. I saw this program is for Masters or Bachelor degree holder, and your
response to others also clarify PhD is not eligible. However, last time I had a chance to ask HR from WBG, but
they are kindly recommending PhD (which has master degree and several years academic experience) to apply
WBG Analyst Program. So I am confused whether I am qualified or not.
(2) I also would like to know what is the criteria of resume screening. There are many excellent candidates with
good diploma and experience, but how did you select some from them for interview?
Thanks.

Hi Henry! PhD students are not eligible as we consider that they are over-qualified for the WBG Analyst position.
If you are interested, and you meet the requirements, you can consider the Young Professionals Program.

Hello!

Should we indicate in our applications (e.g. in CV) if we have a preference to be placed in a Regional/Country

Also for analysts based in Regional/Country offices - do they start there straight away or go through some kind of
orientation in Washington first?
Thanks!

Hi Abrhez, you can indicate that you are open to work both in HQ and in the country offices but I would not limit
your options by mentioning only country offices. If you were to be selected, you would have at least a week
orientation in DC but follow the rest of the activities via Webex.

Hello there,
I live in Ghana, currently. Could any of the analysts on the live chat that lived outside the US before applying talk
about the interview process. Were all interviews over skype/phone?
What type of training, if any, did you receive once you started the program?
How were you assigned to the different streams? Were there opportunities to work in other streams?
My work experience has bee in economic research. Which of the streams would be the best fit for me?
Thank you.

Hello,

Thank you for this great opportunity!

I am about to graduate in mid-September/early October my MA studies in International Relations with focus on
Globalization and Public Policies from the Free University of Brussels. I have a question regarding the application
process:

I saw that we can apply for up to two Specialty Areas, however seeing the previous questions posed here I
couldn't understand if this means that we could apply, for example for Operations (in general) and Finance (in
general) or does this mean we can apply 2 times for Operations specifying each time in which one of the 14
Global Practices and/or 4 Cross-Cutting Solutions Areas we wish to apply for?
Than you in advance!
