10 MUST SHOP in Bangkok

Bangkok is a shopping haven for girls and it is a must to include shopping in their
itinerary! There are so many places to shop in Bangkok and if you ask me, the list just
keeps on increasing every year.
First timers to Bangkok will probably not know where the Must Shop places in Bangkok
are. I too understand that it would be very challenging to visit all the places during a
typical 3D2N trip. Here are the 10 MUST SHOP in Bangkok and why these 10 are
chosen out of the many is because they are the places where you will get the most

returns. Some of them already have a full post on them written so you can click on the
link to read more about it.

Shopping Centre
Majority of shoppers love shopping in Bangkok because the goods are affordable and
there are so many beautiful designs to choose from. So, I will only focus on Budget
Shopping Malls where you can get affordable buys. However, shopping at these places
can be quite challenging and you must have the willpower if you want to finish shopping
the whole complex.

1. Platinum Fashion Mall

The largest and widely known air-conditioned Wholesale Shopping in The Platinum
Fashion Mall. There are 5 Levels of shopping in both Wing 1 & 2. Being a wholesale
mall, it means that when you purchase 2 or more items, it will be cheaper. The more you
buy, the cheaper it gets. There are no changing rooms in the stall, hence you will have to
have your measurements ready. Not to worry, they provide measuring tapes. Do check
with the shop owners if an exchange is possible when you find out it does not fit you
after trying it in your hotel room or public washrooms within the building. Some will allow
you to exchange.

Where > Pratunam (via Taxi)

Operating Hours > Daily, 0900 2000 hrs

2. Union Mall

A favourite hangout for Thai University students. If you cant get enough of Platinum
Fashion Mall, this is the next place to visit! Some of my female friends actually prefer
Union Mall to Platinum because of the designs here. In general, the price is slightly
higher as compared to Platinum but shopping here is much easier as there are
fewer shops and the walkways are wider and spacious.

Where > Lad Phrao (MRT Phahon Yothin)

Operating Hours > Daily, 1100 2000 hrs

3. MBK Center

The most well known shopping centre in Bangkok is MBK (Ma Boon Khrong) Centre
because it was one of the first few major shopping centres in Bangkok. You can get
almost everything here (fashion, tidbits, mobile accessories, etc) but the younger
generation dont actually like to shop here especially for fashion. They usually come here
to get new mobile phone casings or to buy tidbits home. You will definitely be around
Siam area so why not drop by to visit if you have not been here before. You can then
decide for yourself if this will be in your itinerary for your repeat visit to Bangkok.

Where > Siam (BTS National Stadium)

Operating Hours > Daily, 1000 2000 hrs

Day & Night Outdoor Markets

Day & Night outdoor markets can be found in many parts of Bangkok and the most
popular for shopping would be in Pratunam. At such markets, it will be more lively at
night as you will be able to see more stalls being set up. They are generally open from
10am to 9pm. Do note that street markets are closed on Mondays for washing but at
times, you will still be able to see some stalls operating.

4. Pratunam

Pratunam is the most well-known shopping district in Bangkok and hence you can find
many hotels and street food around here for your convenience. The only drawback is the
lack of trains (BTS) in Pratunam but it does not seem to be a big factor because many
Singaporeans still like to stay in this area for the convenience of shopping and street
food. Other than the famous Platinum Fashion Mall, there are also lots of outdoor
shopping just opposite Platinum. It extends all the way to Baiyoke hotels area. Those
who can wake up early, dont miss out the Morning Market but if you cant wake up, not
to worry because there are also shopping both in the afternoon and night.

Where > Pratunam (via Taxi)

5. Victory Monument

Dont know where else to shop? Take the BTS to Victory Monument because you can
find cheap street-style shopping here! You will see many stalls selling fashion ranging
from the latest to the retrp fashion clothing, amd at a cheaper price compared to the
ones at shopping centres. Other than fashion, there are also bags, handmade
accessories and much more.

Where > Victory Monument (BTS Victory Monument)

6. Siam Square

Siam area is like the Orchard Road of Bangkok. There are many shopping centres in this
buzzing area. Siam Square is a place not to be missed. They are many boutique shop
arounds here and its much better at night when stalls are set up along the streets selling
lots of fashion and street food. It may be a little hard to navigate as the streets can be
quite narrow when people stop to look when they see something they like. This is what
make street markets in Bangkok so interesting and unique!

Where > Siam Square (BTS Siam)

Weekend Day Market

This market is only open on Weekends (Saturday and Sunday). If you want to make the
best of your trip, be sure to be around during the weekends.

7. Chatuchak Weekend Market

Chatuchak Weekend Market is also known as Jatujak or JJ Market, and it is the largest
market in Thailand. It is so huge to the extent that you will never be able to complete all
the stalls in a day. The market has more than 5000 stalls selling a wide array of products
including fashions for both females and males, accessories, footwear, household items,
pets, Thai handicrafts and much more. It is hot here so do wear light clothing. If you are
able to conquer the heat here, Im sure you will be able to get a lot of stuff. Dont leave
without trying various famous food here such as the Coconut Ice Cream, Garlic
Bread, Grilled Honey Roast Pork and much more. You cant leave Bangkok without ever
visiting Chatuchak.

Where > Chatuchak Weekend Market (BTS Mo Chit / MRT Kamphaeng Phet or
Chatuchak Park)
Operating Hours > Saturday and Sunday, 0900 1800 hrs

Weekend Night Markets

In the past, weekends are usually reserved for Chatuchak Weekend Market but night
markets are now opening up to cater to those who enjoy the laidback vibe of such
markets. The plus-point is that you can shop without the heat.

8. Talad Rot Fai Srinakarin / Talad Rot Fai Ratchada

Talad Rot Fai (Train Market) was previously located at Kampaeng Phet but has since
closed. It is currently located at Srinakarin Soi 51, which is next to Seacon Square Mega
Shopping Mall. If you like retro, vintage items and antiques, you will definitely love this
place. Talad Rot Fai does not only attract the citys hip and stylish, it attracts people from
all age groups. It is a popular hangout area for friends and families.

Where > Talad Rot Fai Srinakarin (BTS Udom Suk, transfer via taxi)
Operating Hours > Thursday to Sunday, 1700 0100 hrs

Talad Rot Fai Ratchada is the smaller version of Talad Rot Fai Srinakarin.

Although it is smaller, the good part is its location. Its nearer to the city and is accessible
via MRT (Thailand Cultural Center). They are located just behind Esplanade Shopping
Mall. Talad Rot Fai Ratchada opens from Tuesdays to Sundays, which means an
additional 2 days as compared to Srinakarin branch. If you are lazy to travel far and have
a tight schedule, this is a good option to visit.
Where > Talad Rot Fai Ratchada (MRT Thailand Cultural Center)
Operating Hours > Tuesday to Sunday, 1700 0100 hrs

9. JJ Green Vintage Night Market

Jatuchak (JJ) Green is one of the latest Weekend Night Market to open last year in
2014. Located just behind Jatuchak Park, its also near the former Talad Rot Fai before
they shifted over to Srinakarin Road. The vibe is very similar to Talad Rot Fai since they
also sell vintage stuff but its very much smaller in size. Now with JJ Green Vintage Night
Market, you can basically spend half of your day in Chatuchak area. In the afternoon you
can go to Chatuchak Weekend Market and in the evening, JJ Green. That is only if you
have the stamina to do so.

Where > JJ Green Vintage Night Market (BTS Mo Chit / MRT Kamphaeng Phet or
Chatuchak Park)
Operating Hours > Thursday to Sunday, 1800 0100 hrs

Night Market
This night market is opened daily and you wont have to worry about it being closed.
However, it seems that weekend night markets are the in thing now where you can find
many locals and cheap bargains.

10. Asiatique, The Riverfront

Asiatique is currently the most popular night market in Bangkok, attracting both locals
and tourists. Its like a night version of Chatuchak Weekend Market but much more
spacious, airy and beautiful, making shopping here a breeze. If you want to do some
activity here, dont miss out The Calypso Show or Muay Thai Live! The best way to come
here avoiding the jams is to take the free shuttle boat from BTS Saphan Taksin. You can
take this chance to experience taking a boat along the Chao Phraya River too!

Where > Asiatique (BTS Saphan Taksin [Exit 2] and transfer via Asiatique Shuttle
Boat)
Operating Hours > Daily, 1700 2400 hrs

*Bonus Special & Unique Night Market*

ArtBox Bangkok

ArtBox Bangkok is the latest kind of Night Market to hit Bangkok! The concept is
indeed very special and unique to Bangkok. Instead of the usual tentages, this night
market uses containers and the vibe here is totally different from the other night markets
described above. Over here, they are many stalls operated by young entrepreneurs and
of course, it also attracts the younger crowd. Dont be surprised to see them taking lots
of photos, selfies and wefies.
One very important thing to note when going ArtBox is to check if they are
open. They are not a permanent night market and hence you will need to proceed to this
link to check on their opening dates >> Artbox Opening Dates. This is now my favourite
night market and you should definitely visit ArtBox!!!
Where > The EM District (BTS Phrom Phong [Exit 6])
Operating Hours > Selected Weekends (Fri Sun), 1500 2400 hrs

Are you tempted to fly to Bangkok to shop now? Im glad to have

found HotelsCombined.com because I can now compare the prices and see which one
offers the me the best rate. Why pay more when you can save? With the savings, I
can either shop more, eat more street food or go for more massages. This is

happiness!
