COMPONENTS
n Joist/stud sections
These form the main support of the structure and are used primarily as wall studs
and floor joists. Joist/stud sections are also used in combination with channel
n Channel runners
Runners are used to form the horizontal base, intermediate and capping sections
of the stud walls. The depth of runner used will depend on its function.

CONTINUOUS
Metsec SFS continuous external walling system is constructed
outside the main structural frame. It is ideal for two and three

HIGH BAY
SEPARATING WALLS
Metsec SFS High Bay Wall is a high performance single span separating
wall. Its lightweight construction and uniformly distributed loading
normally obviates the need to strengthen foundations or existing
floors. This reduces the time required for installation and minimalises
the overall project cost.
n Dry construction techniques.
n No need to strengthen foundations in most cases.
David Lloyd Centre, Liverpool
n Up to 3 hours fire resistance using British Gypsum boards.
n Full height studs up to 16m.
n Straightforward to build.
The high performance characteristics of the wall coupled
with ease of build qualities make this the first choice
solution for many commercial, public and industrial projects.
In addition to achieving high levels of fire protection,
using British Gypsums Gyproc and Glasroc boards, the walls
can provide acoustic insulation up to Rw62dB.

METFRAME
ASSEMBLY
RING BEAM
The ringbeam of a cold-rolled galvanized C-section is an essential
part of the Metframe structure. Once installed it forms the level
base for all load bearing walls as well as establishing the set out
lines for all floors. Angle cleats are anchored to the foundations
and the vertical leg is fixed to the external face of the C-section
ringbeam. When all ringbeams are installed the ground floor slab
is poured using the ringbeam as a permanent shutter, which
provides a level base for the wall panels.
W A L L F A B R I C AT I O N
The approved Metsec installer will deliver panels to site and erect
them. External panels have foil-faced rigid foam insulation and
brick-tie channels or cement particle board for render factory fitted
during fabrication. Panels will include all door and window
apertures to receive windows by others.
FLOOR LOADING
Prior to fixing floor decking to the top of wall panels, each room is
loaded out with bathroom pods and plasterboard together with
any other finishing materials. The early loading out of materials in
this manner greatly improves the finishing works programme.

METFRAME
ASSEMBLY
FLOOR DECKING
The Metframe system incorporates structural metal decking to
form an in-situ concrete floor. This gives significant advantages in
relation to acoustic and fire requirements.
When required within the Building Regulations, resistance to
progressive collapse is provided by continuous reinforcement bars
acting as ties at panel heads.
ROOFS
The Metframe structure is designed to accommodate virtually any
roof finish from traditional concrete tiles to composite panels.
The roof structure can be timber trusses or steel depending on
architectural requirements.

PERFORMANCE TABLES
STRUCTURAL
THERMAL EFFICIENCY
The U values quoted in the external wall table have been obtained
S O U N D I N S U L AT I O N
lateral wind loads (kN/m ) are given for studs at 600mm centres
and lateral bracing at mid-height. The tables shown are applicable
to limiting deflections of height/360 and height/600. The table
for internal walls gives the maximum allowable axial load (kN/stud)
for studs at 600mm centres and lateral bracing at mid-height.
The span table for internal floors gives the maximum allowable
spans for joists at 400mm or 600mm centres against different
uniform dead/live criteria. The spans apply with or without
acoustic overlay.
F I R E R E S I S TA N C E
The fire resistances given in the performance tables apply to
imperforate constructions tested to BS476: Part 22: 1987 or
assessments based on these tests.

Notes:
1. Fire resistance - values do not include any contribution from the exterior cladding.
2. Thermal performance values assume normal exposure conditions.
3. Sound insulation values are for airtight constructions in the absence of flanking sound transmission.
4. For full information of British Gypsum products included in these tables reference can be made to the British Gypsum White Book and current literature
(www.british-gypsum.com).
5. Performance data applies to load bearing construction. For details of non-load bearing internal construction refer to the British Gypsum White Book and current literature
(www.british-gypsum.com).
6. Studs are at 600mm centres in all walls tested.
7. Where Sto render is used, reference should be made to Sto limited details.
