Students Activities

Good morning class!

I am so glad to see you all
in this special session with me.
I am Sir Hermando D.
Lozano and I am your Math teacher for
today. Before we proceed to our lesson
proper, lets have first a game. I will
divide the class into four groups. The
first group will be Group Socrates, the
second group will be Group Plato, the
third group will be Group Aristotle and
the fourth group will be Group Einstein.
The game is entitled MATH QUIZ
bowl.
Let us recall your previous
learnings/concepts through math quiz
bowl. With your groupings, I will give
each group an illustration board and a
chalk for you to write the letter of your
answer. I will read the question twice and Yes, Sir!
after 5 seconds youll raise your
answers. Each question is worth 2
points. The group who can gain more
points will be declared as the winner.
Are my instructions clear,
class?

class?
Let us give them an angel clap.

Yes, Sir!
2. Motivation/Review
Class, with the same
group, well have another game. This
game is called 4 PICS, 2 WORDS.
Each group has the chance to answer it
correctly, but you have to raise your
flaglet. The first group who can raise
their flaglet will be the one to be
accepted by teacher to answer. If the
answer is correct you will receive the 10
points. However, if the answer is
incorrect, other groups have the chance
to answer it correctly and acquire the
points. Am I understood class?

d. Law

B. Developmental Activities
1. Setting of Standards
Now, lets have first agreement.
For us to really understand our lesson
today, let us listen attentively and
participate well in our activities. Am I

2. Discussion
Activity 1.
With the same groupings, each
group will be given one figure, ruler and
marker. What you are going to do is to
measure the length of its sides. With an
accompanying chart are questions to be
answered.
After
answering
those
questions, select one representative in
your group to explain your work. You will
be given 5 minutes to answer the
questions and 5 minutes to explain your
work.

Guide Questions:
1. Given the right triangle, complete the table above.
2. Add the squares of the two legs and relate or equate it to the square of
the hypotenuse.
What is their relation?
3. Write the relation to mathematical statement.
In a right triangle, the square of the hypotenuse is equal to the

previous activity. What is it?
Pythagoras
What do you call a statement that needs to be
proven?
Theorem
Joining the terms, it will be come?
Pythagorean Theorem
A little trivia, Pythagoras is a Greek Mathematician
who investigate this type of theorem. He almost
spent all of his time finding the things that cause
mystery in this world. This famous theorem was

then named after him by his followers.

Activity 2.
Since, we already know what
Pythagorean Theorem is, let us try some
problems to test the formula.

c
a

Yes sir!
The Pythagorean Theorem.

A part of a right triangle is missing, can

we
find the missing side?
What should we use?
Suppose the hypotenuse is missing
given that the height(a) of a right
triangle is 9 inches and the base(b) is 12
inches. What is the length of the
hypotenuse?
What we are going to use?
How are we going to solve it?

Using the Pythagorean Theorem.

Substitute and then simplify.
c 2 = a 2 + b2
c 2 = 92 + 122
c 2 = 81 + 144
c 2 = 225
c = 15

Yes, sir!
Okay, Very Good Charlie.

c 2 = a 2 + b2
102 = a2 + 82
100 = a 2 + 64
100 64 = a2
36 = a 2
6=a

What if , one of the legs is missing,

can we still find it?
I have here a problem.
If b = 8 and c= 10. What is the shorter
side?
Okay, Joshua

Very Good, Joshua.

C. Concluding Activities
1. Generalization
Again class, what have we
tackled this day?
What can you conclude about
it?

About Pythagorean Theorem Sir!

Pythagorean Theorem states that the
square of the hypotenuse is equal to the
sum of the square of the 2 legs.
c2 = a 2 + b2
Right Triangle
No

How is Pythagorean Theorem

expressed?
What type of triangle does
Pythagorean Theorem used?
Is it applicable to other type

c 2 = a 2 + b2
302 = 182 + b2
900 = 324 + b2
900 324 = b2
576 = b2
24 = b

of triangles?
2. Application
At this point, I have met this
painter of a building, he then states that
If the foot of 30-meter ladder is placed
18 meters away from a building, how
high up of the building will the ladder
reach?
c
b

IV. Evaluation
Directions: Find the missing values.

b
1. a = 36 , b = 15 , c = ?
2. b =24 , c = 26 , a = ?
3. a = 16 , c = 20 , b = ?
V. Assignment
Directions: Use the Pythagorean Theorem to solve the real-life problem.

anchored 21-meter away from the base. Find the length of the wire brace?
