Brochure
Description: Two-sided travel brochure
Programs Used: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Indesign, Adobe Photoshop
Date: Saturday, March 26th, 2016
Course: Comm 130, Sec. 001, Pingel
Objective: Set up and align a two-sided, folded document.
Create an original, new logo and use it in a brochure.
Incorporate quality images. Incorporate at least four quality images, not including the logo.
One should be clipped in Photoshop and text-wrapped in InDesign so the text follows the cutout
shape of the image.
Write at least 250 words of original copy in at least three paragraphs, headers, and subheaders.
Trim for a full bleed and print in duplex (two-sided) color.
Process: To begin, I created a logo in Illustrator using shapes. From there, I moved it into InDesign and began the brochure. I set up the lines to make it the uneven brochure type and I designed
what I had sketched on paper. I made the front simple with a title, logo and flag of the country.
The outside flap has Uruguay printed in large letters to capture the attention of the audience.
I found a variety of images to use on this project. I sized them and inserted them into InDesign.
With one image, I took out the background and placed text around it. I added text to the other
images as well for a clear description.

Logo
Description: Creative logo for a company
Programs Used: Adobe Illustrator
Date: Saturday, February 30th, 2016
Course: Comm 130, Sec. 001, Pingel
Objective: Create three completely different, original logos to fit a company or personal image
that will appeal to the audience. Do not imitate existing logos or use previous designs.
Market research: gather opinions from at least ten people about which logo appeals most to
them.
Use only the Illustrator tools to create and draw your logos. (No Illustrator pre-fabricated
flares, symbols, etc.. No photos or live-tracing. You may use an image or drawing as a guide to
trace it with the pen/pencil, but delete the image before submitting.)
Refine one logo with variations for color
Process: I learned how to combine circles and squares and then crop them to get the exact shape
I wanted. That is precisely how I created my special watermelon. I searched a variety of fonts to
find the perfect one that would display my message. It is the font used at The Burg restaurant.

Event Ad
Description: An event advertisement using Microsoft Word and a scanner
Programs Used: Microsoft Word
Date: Saturday, January 30th, 2016
Course: Comm 130, Sec. 001, Pingel
Objective: Comprehend image sizing (how pixels and inches work together)
Find, scan and import a high-quality image.
Create a full-bleed design.
Choose a color scheme and typeface(s) that work for your message and audience.
Learn to use only Word design features without using any Adobe programs, including Photoshop.
Process: I used a scanner to scan the Mario image to my computer. From there I edited the image,
cropped it, took out the white background and attached it to a Word document. I added various
boxes of the primary colors red, yellow and blue. I used the dropper to match the colors of the
boxes to the colors of Marios clothing. I tried a nice font to appeal to the audience, however it
did not transfer with the PDF.
Used: Microsoft Word, Epson Scanner

Stationery
Description: Matching Letterhead and Business Cards
Programs Used: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Indesign
Date: Saturday, February 27th, 2016
Course: Comm 130, Sec. 001, Pingel
Objective: Use the basic tools in Illustrator & InDesign.
Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image. Do not imitate existing logos or use previous designs. Dont use photos or live trace.
Use the new logo to design consistent layouts for a business card and letterhead. Photos are
okay on business card and letterhead as additional design elements. Letterhead should be 8.5 x 11,
full-bleed optional, but trim only .125. Business card should be 3.5 x 2 and printed above center on
a vertical page.
Apply typography rules, keeping small copy.
Keep designs simple with light watermarks and drop shadows and plenty of white space.
Include contact information: name, address, phone, website, and email on each piece. Use periods,
bullets, or spaces in phone number; no parentheses/ hyphens.
Process: I created the logo using simple shapes in Adobe Illustrator. I was able to form the tie
design back connecting rectangles and triangle and rounding the edges.
From there I moved the adobe illustrator tie to indesign where I was able to create the letter
head and business cards. I enlarged my original tie design and lowered the opacity to create a
gray tie for the background. I added bars as well to the indesign.

Objective: Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography.
Incorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout.
Retrieve image and logo from links on this page.
Create a project folder with image, logo and InDesign document to keep links in InDesign intact.
Process: After brainstorming the message I wanted to get across, I created four possible sketches. Using InDesign, I placed three boxes in the middle of the design in order to create a good repetition. I strategically left white space on both the left and bottom of the page. I was given the
image and logo for the flier and placed the logo within a design involving hexagons.
