STATIC ELECTRICITY - CAR
FIRE HAZARD
Static electricity is the result of
charges being held upon by bodies
and discharged intermittently
.These charges are generated by
friction between certain materials. A
body electrically charged is one
with a potential above or below the
normal zero potential
In case of vehicle's accumulated
static charges have resulted in
disastrous accidents most probably
at petrol filling stations. Actually
what happens is the vapour that
comes from petrol burns and
causes the fire when it comes in
contact with static charge i.e spark.
So some steps which should be
taken to overcome the problems
are:1. Try to avoid mobile phones,
rubber soled footwear and
synthetic fibre clothes while in
car.
2. Technically nozzle of the petrol
injector should be in contact
with the car body before the
petrol is pumped into the car.
3. Nobody should get in or out the
vehicle while the petrol is
injected as on doing this static
charges are induced.
4. Close the doors of the car while
coming out of the vehicle, on
doing these static charges get
discharged.
