The shopping center had previously met with Terry Fellows' chess group to discuss alternatives to meeting in the food court, as it was disrupting customers. In this letter, the shopping center outlines three alternative space options at local community centers that the chess group could book instead, and offers a $500 donation to help cover costs. It asks the group to stop using the food court by March 31st and hopes the police do not need to get involved, looking for the group's cooperation in moving locations.

At our last meeting, held at Park Royal, I had advised that we would endeavor to put together an alternative list of locations for your chess group to meet and that we would contact you to meet again to present our findings. Additionally, I had pledged money for the group to book alternative space at your convenience as a gesture of goodwill. We were sorry to hear that you were not available to meet Thursday or Friday of last week, however, as promised, this letter outlines to your group Park Royal Shopping Centres position. We appreciate the group has met here informally for many years, however, as explained to you the food court is not intended for non-patron use and must be kept available for our food court vendor customers. We cannot continue to have seats monopolized by large groups such as yours on a daily basis, as this would be a disservice to our paying customers. We are offering the following locations to you that could be booked at your convenience. Park Royal will pledge a one-time donation of $500.00 to assist with these costs. Our intent is to be respectful and reasonable as we had discussed when we met. If your group fails to comply it will give us no alternative but to reach out to the West Vancouver Police department. We sincerely hope this is an action we do not have to take and we look forward to the groups cooperation in this matter. Yours Truly,
