Ladies That Lead Pursue Your Passion

Across Gippsland & South
East Melbourne there are
hundreds of corporate
woman who have pursued
a successful career, to the
detriment of their true
purpose sacrificing their
time, for money - and
not the money they truly
deserve.

resulted in me quitting
my day job and launching
a membership site for
entrepreneurial women in
my position. I will help
thousands of corporate
women, around the world,
pursue their true passion
and inspire leadership of
business ownership.

In fact I was one of them,

working in a corporate role
with stressful targets, and
not creating the financial
or free time I was after. My
quest for the perfect work/
life balance and inspiring
other woman in business

I feel there are many famous

male entrepreneurs and
huge thought leaders, big
names such as Tony Robbins,
Richard Branson, Steve Jobs,
Brian Tracey and countless
others however the female
side is severely lacking.

There is Oprah Winfrey &

Ellen DeGeneres.. We NEED
more females to step up
and motivate other woman
to pursue their business
goals, tackle their fears, and
motivate other woman to do
the same. In todays society
there is so much pressure
on woman to be the perfect
wife, and mother, often to
the detriment of a womans
career, however the olden
day mantra where the man
provides for the family is
now evening up with a lot
of woman bringing in the
equivalent if not more than

their male partners to the

household income. Some
woman really desire huge
personal success of their
own and I am here to inspire
and support them on their
journey.
After working through
the early struggles of
entrepreneurship the late
nights, strong coffees, lack
of sleep, anxiety, stress and
mild depression I decided
there wasnt a lot of support,
direction or a blueprint
out there for woman to
really pursue their career
and business goals. So I

and Sunday Sippers with live

Thanks to all the folks that
came to our Sunday Sippers

decided to create an online
membership program and

of like minded powerful
woman. 100% dedicating
myself to providing wisdom,

woman with a guarantee to
work with them until they
hit a 6 figure income. I have

a two-and-a-half week

trail walk and more.
The festival ocially opens
on the 400th anniversary
of William Shakespeare's

APRIL 2016

East Gippsland Shire News

East Gippsland Field Days

East Gippsland Field Days
began in 1986. The first two
events were held on Trevor
and Judy Richardsons
property 2km west of
Lindenow. 30 years later
with many years at the
Bairnsdale Aerodrome the
event has continued to grow.

With over 350 exhibitor

spaces
and
numerous
quality promotions at the
Field Days, around 8
10,000 visitors are attracted
to the event each year, most
of them on the lookout for
new products, services and
information.

Many
Lindenow
and
District schools, sporting
clubs and the Lioness Club
work with the Lions to make
this a premier event in East
Gippsland. All proceeds
are used within the local
communities.

East Gippsland encompasses

a
diverse
range
of
agricultural
and
rural
industries. It possesses
agricultural holdings of
some 750,000 ha based
around beef, wool, dairy,

vegetables and cropping, is

seeing a growth in emerging
enterprises such as flower
growing and viticulture,
and has a strong hobby
and part time farming
population. The region is
also home to Australias
largest fishing fleet, a major
timber industry producing
25% of Victorias hardwood
output, as well as expanding
tourism, manufacturing and
retail sectors.
It is clear that East
Gippsland has significant

equipment, product and

service needs, and so there
are many good reasons to be
an exhibitor. For the visitor,
the opportunity to see a
vast range of products in
one location presents itself
but once a year, here at the
East Gippsland Field Days.
An iconic event on the East
Gippsland calendar proudly
run by the Lindenow Lions
Club since its inception in
1986.

APRIL 2016

Real Estate & Your Home

It's Autumn, coming up to Winter.

Is this a good time to sell?
A lot of people think they
need to wait until Spring
to put their homes on the
market. In reality, ANY
time of year is a good time
to sell as long as your home
is presented and marketed
properly.
With the colder months,
you find that you may not
get as many people wanting
to inspect the property
BUT the people that do are
usually serious buyers, so
I actually recommend it
rather than waiting.
Make full use of anything
you have in your house
that is cozy and welcoming.
Light your fireplace, neatly

stack your wood pile, turn

on your heating, ensure your
lights are ALL on so that the
home is not dark, and keep
your lawns mowed and
garden weeded.

First impressions are key,

so I usually recommend
planting flowering bulbs
or bright winter plants in
the front yard. Large pots
of flowering plants near
the front door are fantastic.
Don't make the mistake
of having fresh flowers,
incense, or scented candles/
sprays in the house though,
as this is also the time when
many people have allergies.
Keep the plants OUTSIDE

Wou
ld

yo u

and your buyers INSIDE.

I make it a point to have
'information packs' on the
area are readily available for
my buyers, especially in the
colder months, so that they
can see themselves living
there. I've also been known
to have hot chocolates and
coffee on hand, especially
when the weather is
particularly nasty.
All YOU need to do is decide
this is your time to make a
change and give me a call. I'll
do my absolute best to help
you.

Security For Your Home and Business
With Easter just behind
us and the Anzac day
long weekend ahead, it's a
good time to think about
home or business security.
Whether you're heading
off on camping holidays or
just out working hard over
this time it's a good idea,
for your peace of mind, to
ensure your home, business
and valuables are protected.
No one ever wants to return
to work or home to find
their possessions or valuable
personal items have gone
missing and we all have
those sentimental items that
just can't be replaced.
With the leap in digital
technologies over the last
decade and the advent of
fast and readily available
internet connections there
are now many options out
there to suit every kind of
budget and situation.
As a deterrent things like
sensor activated lighting or
cameras can go a long way to
putting off trespassers from
entering your property.
Things like this can now
even be implemented into
your home wifi so that you
receive text notifications or
email to your phone almost
immediately if anything

untoward has been detected.

Classic loud audio alarms
are also still great to install.
A loud alarm or siren is
often all it takes to send
intruders running and foil
any plans they may have had
and will alert neighbours or
passers by to a disturbance
at your address.
Cameras can be set up to
record multiple areas at
the same time and can be
recording constantly or, as
a power saving measure, set
off only when sensors have
been triggered. Camera
technology has become
far cheaper in recent years
and recording quality has
improved greatly. Recorded
footage can even be viewed
straight away on a tablet or
smart phone from wherever
you may be in the world.
Dummy or non-operating
cameras can even be
installed to give the illusion
of more coverage adding
that extra layer of deterrent
to any would be thieves.
On the more advanced side
of things Anti-Intrusion
systems can detect whether
any doors or windows have
been breached and can be
operated via a number pad or
card swipe system meaning

only authorised entrants

can enter a given building
or property and you will
be able to keep a record of
who has entered which area
and when they did. "Back
to Base" alarms can be set
up to alert security firms of
these breaches so someone
can investigate as soon as
possible saving valuable
time. These are fantastic for
businesses or warehouses to
keep track of your inventory
and all of the comings and
goings of a busy business
operation. Having these
kind of systems set up can
greatly assist police with
enquiries in the event a
crime has taken place, lead
to more affordable insurance
premiums
and
simply
provide peace of mind.
Talk to a local security
installation expert to see
what options are available
to protect your home or
business today so you can
just relax on those well
earned long weekends and
know that everything is well
taken care of.

Cinema Guide

Shrouded
in
mystery
prior to its release and
continuing right up to the
films climax, hardly anyone
knew what to expect from
10 Cloverfield Lane. All
we had was a couple of
ambiguous trailers and the
cryptic clue that lay within
its title, which only seemed
to generate confusion
among anxious film goers.
Sitting behind me in a
practically empty 250 seat
cinema, a women asked my
girlfriend and I if this was a
sequel to 2008s Cloverfield;
a question not suciently
answered with a simple yes
or no. To be vague for your
benefit, after a sudden car
accident a women awakens
to find herself chained to
the wall of an empty room
only to be told by her
alleged captor that there
has been an attack on the
world above, rendering the
air toxic.
Some may find the fact
that you dont know whats
going on more frustrating
than intriguing, whereas I
thrived on the idea. Much
of the enjoyment that
comes from watching 10
Cloverfield Lane is putting

pieces together yourself,

as suggested through a
subtle jigsaw puzzle motif
throughout the picture.
Tension
is
effectively
maintained through the
clever utilization of acoustics
which not only resonate
the simple closing of doors
to startling levels, but the
unknown ominous sounds
heard outside. Further
more the limited cast
convey a fragile existence as
the result of their growing
paranoia and skepticism;
which is attributed to strong
naturalistic performances,

most notably from Mary

Elizabeth
Winstead
in
the leading role and
John Goodman who is
remarkably unsettling as an
earnest host.

Despite
its
simplicity
10 Cloverfield Lane is
intelligent
filmmaking.
Its Twilight Zone-esque
narrative serves as mental
exercise in human behavior,
deduction and logic. I dont
think its for everyone, but
I implore you to give it a
chance.

Member for Morwell Russell
Northe and Member for
Eastern Region Melina Bath
are encouraging residents
to attend ANZAC Day
services across Gippsland
to pay tribute to those
who have served and are
currently serving in the
defense of our nation.
Mr Northe said ANZAC Day
was of special significance
for Australians.
A century ago, men and
women from all over Australia
were called upon to leave
behind their family and
friends and cross the sea
to serve their country, Mr
Northe said.

It is also a time to remember

the deep emotional scars
that many carried silently
following this terrible time
in our history and the
impact of war on families
spanning generations.

Mr Northe said that

from a population of less
than five million, more
than
400,000
enlisted.
Of these young men and
women more than 60,000
made the ultimate sacrifice,
whilst more than 156,000
were wounded, gassed or
taken prisoner, he said.

Ms Bath said ANZAC Day

was an opportunity to reflect
on the sacrifices made by
Australian servicemen and
women not only during
World War I but also to
recognise all members of
the Australian Defense
Force who continue to serve
around the world.

It is heartening to see
increasing numbers of
people,
especially
our
younger generations, attending
ANZAC services paying
tribute to those who have
made the ultimate sacrifice
so that we can enjoy the
freedom and lifestyle we
do, Ms Bath said.
The National MPs also paid
tribute to Gippslands RSL
Clubs for their ongoing efforts
in educating particularly the
younger generations on what
the ANZAC spirit means
along with their hosting of
local ANZAC day services.

resumed his position with
Woolworths for about 6
months. But like many
returned service personal
he could not settle. He then
decided to take up a career
in photography, which he
found he had been doing
a lot of as an interest in
Vietnam.

Greg was an avid golfer.

In 1976 he won the world
championship for Rotary
golfers in USA in Idaho. Due
to his love of Golf after a few
years of living in Bairnsdale
started to develop a small
golf course on his property
for his friends to use. After
a while it was decided that
they make the property a
retreat for war veterans and
their partners. Cockatoo
Rise started from a simple
remark This would be a
nice place for a retreat to
his wife Annie. From there
the concept grew.

From that time onwards

he made a very successful
career in a profession he
loved.
Greg playing golf on his course

15km south is the Ninety

Mile Beach Entrance into
the tidal Gippsland Lakes.
The Rise is also an hour and
a half drive to Mt Hotham
along the Great Alpine Rd.

Maintaining Cockatoo Rise

is a massive task for the
Carters. Over the years, they
relied on assistance provided
by a number of trusted
volunteers, but unfortunately,
due to a the nature of
volunteering,
retaining
numbers have proven a
challenge. Apparently due
to volunteers moving to
retirement villages or away.
The property is maintained
by about a dozen volunteers

who are called upon

regularly to help with events.
As part of the retreat Greg
and Annie have set up an
outpost called Diggers,
an
area
intentionally
reminiscent
of
the
Australian fire support base
in NUIT DAT, Vietnam,
where Greg served. It
was a place of immediate
support. Whether is is posttraumatic stress disorder,
bad dreams, trouble with
sleeping, nervousness or
anxiety, or any combination
of these things, many war
veterans are left totally and
permanently incapacitated.
Many of these people take

their own life. Even as a

replica the retreats outpost
is a place for support,
although perhaps not for
the same reasons. A warm
environment
consisting
of a rustic iron shed with
barbecue, seating and a
camouflage canopy and
a regular Friday night
campfire.
Diggers
is
separated from the main
campsite. It is an ideal place
for veterans wanting peace,
quiet and a little solidarity to
set up their accommodation,
and an important part of the
welcoming culture that the
Carters nurture. It is super
fell-good place, right down
the end of the block. Its

Greg with wife Annie

The retreat has been running

now for about 6 years now.
Greg has made the retreat
as a FREE facility where he
does Re Hab , give's respite
or just provides a location
where traveling veterans can
stay and share and enjoy a
quiet, peaceful and secure
environment. Some people
stay for a night en route to
another destination, others
stay for months at a time.
The one thing they all have
in common is theyre war
veterans needing time
and space to reflect and
rejuvenate. Regardless of
which war they have served,
whether it was Vietnam,
Korea or Afghanistan all
veterans and their partners
are welcome.
Cockatoo Rise now features
a free-to-use golf course

To say at Cockatoo Rise
Veterans retreat required no
payment, but you just be a
veteran of war, and bringing
your own accommodation is
necessary. Since council does
not permit any more than
three caravans at any one
time, its wise to contact Greg
or Annie prior to arrival.

Vegan Meringue. A New Favourite!

I was a little bit sceptical

when I came across this
recipe for Vegan meringues.
This particular meringue uses
chickpea liquid. Yep thats
right, the stuff you normally
pour down the drain is edible.

I am not a baker and Im

terrible with anything that
needs to go in the oven and be
baked for any period of time
and usually when it comes to
meringue I dont even make it
past the whipping stage. Good

news for those of you who are

also egg white challenged, this
is impossible to over whip and
makes the most wonderful
glossy batter.

Now, I made a batch of about

15 of these small meringue
nests and they were gone
within the hour. I actually
prefer these to regular
meringue. The taste can only
be described as a caramelized
meringue with notes of honey
in the background. The best

part being that it dissolves

perfectly.
I adapted my recipe to be a
little more stable by using the
corn flour but it can be left out
if you do not have any.
This would be delicious served
with some fresh berries
and passion fruit on a warm
summers night or served with
a delicious, creamy pannacotta.

Prep Time: 20m

Cook Time: 1h 30m
Total Time: 1h 40m
Yield: 15-20 Nests

Ingredients
400 grams Tin of Chickpeas
1 tablespoon Corn Flour
1/2 cup White Sugar
1/2 cup Brown Sugar
1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract

in conjunction with the
healing power of nature.

the body's own healing
mechanisms.

Health Clinic Rebekah is
passionate about improving
women's health.

Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 150 Celsius. Line baking sheets with baking paper.
2. Drain chickpea juice in to a large mixing bowl (discard chickpeas or reserve for later
use).
3. Beat chickpea juice on high for 10 to 15 minutes until firm peaks form.
4. Add vanilla extract and corn flour then gradually add sugar. Beat until stiff peaks form
and the mixture is thick and glossy.
5. Pipe on to baking sheets in 5cm swirls and bake in the oven to bake for an hour and a
half.
6. Once meringues are cooked turn off oven and allow the meringues to cool in the
oven.
7. Store in an airtight container until ready to serve. Storable for up to 2 weeks.

Facts About Calcium And Grit For Birds Part 1

Calcium is the abundant
mineral in a birds body.
Its the major component
of bone, an integral part
of cell membranes and
plays an important part in
most metabolic processes
within a birds body and
is necessary for normal
nerve, brain and muscle
functions.
Although 99% of calcium
in a birds body is in its
bones, the skeleton is not
a static structure. Bones
are in a constant state of
maintenance and renewal.
They require dietary
calcium for these purposes.
In breeding hen birds
calcium is vital for egg
formation and after hatching
rapidly growing chicks need
ample dietary calcium to
ensure they develop a strong
skeletal structure.
Birds (just like people)
need calcium in their diet,
in fact they should have
between 500mg and 700mg
of calcium per 100g of food
for egg laying and rearing
young, however, seeds
commonly fed to birds
contain only a fraction of
these amounts.
The calcium content in 100g

of plain canary seed is 48mg,

millet has 46mg, panicum
65mg and 100g of the edible
portion of sunflower yields
only 56mg of calcium.
Seeds are not the only food
deficient in calcium. Other
food commonly fed to birds
are also low in calcium.
For example; 100g of
spinach only contains 93mg
of calcium, 100g of broccoli
contains 48mg, mung bean
sprouts a mere 14mg, soy
bean sprouts 69mg, whole
egg (excluding shell) 56mg
and meal worms contain
96mg of calcium per 100g.
Since seed, greens and
live foods commonly fed
to birds supply less than
20% of the calcium needed,
birds must be provided
with calcium rich food that
they will readily consume
to ensure that they get their
full requirement of this vital
mineral.
They also need Vitamin
D3 to enable them to absorb
calcium from the intestine.
Birds can manufacture their
own supply of Vitamin D3
from ultra violet rays if
they are regularly exposed
to short periods of natural
sunlight.

Natural sunlight means

direct sunlight, not filtered
through glass or perspex, as
these things are treated to
inhibit the absorption of the
suns rays.
Birds that are permanently
housed inside buildings
should have exposure to
full spectrum lighting for
an hour or two minimum
each day, or they require a
liquid calcium preparation
containing Vitamin D3 to
be added to their drinking
water once or twice weekly.
Calcivet or Avical are
suitable brands that should
be available from most good
pet stores.
Calcium and breeding
conditions: Only a small
amount of calcium can be

carried (but not stored) in

a birds blood stream at any
one time, however, large
amounts must be available
in a short space of time to
form an egg, in particular
the egg shell (which is 40%
calcium).
As a hen comes into
breeding condition extra
calcium consumed by the
bird prior to egg laying is
deposited on the inside of
some of her hollow bones.
When the time comes for
the egg to be wrapped in its
shell, the parathyroid gland
(which controls calcium
levels within a birds body)
emits a hormone into the
birds bloodstream.
This causes calcium to
be withdrawn from the

medullary (inner) bone

matrix and be despatched
to the shell gland where it is
deposited around an egg (in
the space of a few hours).

of the main skeletal bones.

This process leaves a birds

total body calcium levels
somewhat depleted after
laying a clutch of eggs.

Calcium deficiency during

the breeding cycle can also
lead to complications such
as thin soft shelled eggs
(that will not hatch) or egg
binding, weakness in chicks
or splayed legs in either
mother and/or young.

Adequate dietary calcium

is therefore required after
egg laying to restore total
body (mainly bone) calcium
levels to normal.

Severe calcium deficiency

can lead to convulsions and
even untimely death in a
hen bird that is attempting
to produce eggs.

If an egg laying hen birds

diet is deficient in calcium,
some eggs may still be
produced, it may not be as
many eggs though, however,
in a deficiency situation,
calcium is withdrawn from
the cortical (outer bone)
matrix causing a weakening

Provided that the birds have

adequate levels of Vitamin
D3 in their system a lack of
calcium in a seed eating bird
is easily remedied.
In Part 2 we cover Calcium
Grit Mix.
