Well hello there.

Its great to be back after

a very warm, sunny, wet, dry, hot sticky
clammy Christmas New year 2015/16. Trust
everyone is rested, tanned relaxed and in
the zone as we stride into April and cooler
Autumn temperatures.

Family News
We had a thoroughly enjoyable Christmas
with all our kids and grandchildren. Karens
extended family came from Kawerau to join
us for the day. Much food and drink and
merriment was had by all. We enjoyed a great
day where everyone contributed towards
a delicious Christmas lunch, desserts and
snacks aplenty. The family slowly drifted off
their separate ways and we ended up having a
quiet evening with leftovers to nibble on.
We are thrilled to announce that Josh and his
fiance Georgia are engaged, but equally as
exciting for us, is the imminent arrival of our
first grandson due mid-April. We are waiting
with baited breath. Chloe and Alex are still
living just around the corner in Welcome Bay
and are adjusting to having another baby girl
Hayleigh who is nearly 5 months old already.
Our family is expanding quickly. Bianca has
come home from Auckland and is living with
her boyfriend, who is also 5 minutes up the
road from us. She is doing okay and is focusing
on getting a job at present.
Seth has settled into Yr. 8 and has a teacher
who has already identified that he is very
bright. She even commented that he should
become a lawyer or negotiator because of his

PAT BUCKLEY LIFE SKILLS EDUCATOR

ability to work a deal or talk his way out of

things. They have also recognized that he has
great writing skills, and there may even be an
opportunity to be coached by an author twice
a month at Tauranga Intermediate School. Ella
is now enrolled at Bethlehem College and is
thriving in this environment. She already has
many new friends at BC. They do a lot of their
learning on IPADs.
Both Seth and Ella have been going to the
Tauranga judo club for the last 5 months. Seth
has worked his way up with two yellow tabs on
his belt and Ella following closely behind with
one yellow tab. They are both really enjoying
the comradery and friendship that this club
provides along with great instructors who train
the students hard.
Karen has just received her REPS accreditation
as a personal trainer and is finally starting
to realize her dream. She is training clients
two days a week [Monday and Friday 9:3010:30am]. She is also continuing with her
healthcare assistant role in Tga hospital as
well.
All being said, we are well and looking
forward to a busy and exciting 2016

2016 has already seen quite a few speaking

engagements for Amped4Life out of town, along
with our regular local work in Mount College
counselling.
Our relationship with Mount College goes back
nearly 14 years now, offering counselling/
mentoring and assemblies for both the P.E Dept.
and also various year levels.
Our passion has always been for our local
community and then offering our programs and
services to other regions.
I have completed writing copious funding
applications, organising new appointments and
speaking engagements in schools, community
agencies and other organisations as well as
following up with an onslaught of regular paperwork
and administration, and other chores that require
constant attention

Term 1
I started the year off by speaking in two churches.
One at Eastgate in Pakuranga, and the other
church my older brother runs at Botany. They were
both very positive and the feedback is always
encouraging. The bonus is when I visit Auckland for
appointments, I have the opportunity to stay with
my Mum who has been my number one supporter
and encourager since we started this venture many
years ago.

Summerhill youth camp

We were delighted to again work with a local
initiative here in Welcome Bay Tauranga called
Summerhill Camp run by Garth Collings. This
unique Academy is the dream of David and Cloie
Blackley who have owned this working sheep, cattle
and forestry farm in the Papamoa Hills for over fifty
years. The farm also includes mountain bike tracks,
walking and running trails, BMX jump-park and
even a Mongolian Ger (tent) where the Academy
is based. The Blackleys generously give back and
leave a legacy for the Bay of Plenty Youth. They are
truly an inspirational couple with very young hearts.
The Academy course is full of fundamental life skills
that are vital for success in and out of the school
class room.

The Academy has in its content words of wisdom for

todays young adults presented at a unique location
with passion and variety. Its a sure blueprint for
building your leadership skills, for knowing how to
get the life you want and to motivate yourself to
reach your full potential. The subjects covered in
the thirty odd modules are very practical a lot is
common sense, wisdom and quite a few leadership
skills that a future employer will value and can put
into practice.

Rypen Camps 2015

Amped4Life is delighted to continue in partnership with RYPEN, an amazing
organisation that does so much for local communities. The Rotary Youth
Program of Enrichment or RYPEN is a Rotary sponsored program. Year ten
and eleven students, from schools across WBOP attend a weekend long camp
designed at developing their potential through a mixture of lecture style
sessions and adventure-based learning. Thanks Dan Allen-Gordon and David
Robinson for inviting Amped4Life to come and share our message again.
Amped4Life has had an ongoing association with Mt Albert Grammar School
for the last 5 or so years and have primarily worked with the PE/Health Dept.
in offering classroom modules and seminars which elaborate and hone in on
various subject content, ranging from a Methamphetamine Module Level 3 for
Yr. 13[Form 7 classes] or the Choices/Destination by design module for the Yr.
10[Form 4]. The new principal Pat Drumm and I have had a great relationship
for years and so hope to now offer our services to a larger audience in Yr. levels.
They have a roll of 2800 which is huge. So we are very excited about future
opportunities in this amazing learning facility

Feedback
I heard Pat speak at Paeroa College last Friday
and I was impressed by his honest but nonjudgemental talk on making choices and the
consequences of such choices. The audience of
teenagers was held captive for almost an hour, not
as easy feat when dealing with youth sometimes.
It was a testament to how he really spoke into
their lives! I thoroughly recommend having Pat
and Amped4Life come to your school. As both an
educator and a parent he really spoke to me.

Finally, as we always do, please read and see for yourselves

the difference we are making out there in your communities

Thank you! For caring and taking time

to speak to us. I really felt the love and
concern. Please carry on with what youre
doing because this presentation changed
the way i look at life
STUDENT MACLEANS COLLEGE

TRACEY ELLERY-RTLB [HAURAKI CLUSTER]

Carry on influencing others in your life as you have

to us and the many before us. You are an amazing
role model to the younger generation and we are
lucky to have heard from you. Thanks.
STUDENT TE PUKE HIGH SCHOOL

The way you spoke to us was awesome. You made

us feel connected to you which not a lot of people
can do with youth. PLEASE continue your work
STUDENT WESTLAKE GIRLS

The speaker felt relatable. He seemed to

understand the way teens think and act. He had
experience with things like drugs and the way
they had affected him, and therefore the message
resonated more with me. The presentation was
very raw and honest. I think it was very brave of

PAT BUCKLEY LIFE SKILLS EDUCATOR

him to stand up there and tell a group of teens hed

likely never met about some very dark and personal
aspects of his life with the aim of improving or
saving the lives of others. This is probably the best
presentation on Drugs, alcohol and safety Ive ever
seen and I think it should be in every secondary
school in the country
STUDENT-KAIPARA COLLEGE

The Amped4Life message is powerful, passionate

and raw. Pat doesnt sugar coat the damages that
negative choices could have on young people.
He relates to students in a meaningful way that is
blatant, honest and laced with love as he shares
snap-shots of his own life choices through the use
and abuse of drugs and alcohol.
His passion for life is clearly evident as he illustrates
positive choices and strategies to overcome

different situations while encouraging students to

make good choices and to get educated.
I would recommend Pat and his message to any
school and organization. Like Paul Holmes once
said - I believe. The Amped4Life message
should be compulsory.

When life gives you lemons make lemonade, if

youve been brought up in a family that use alcohol
and drugs, be different, try make something
different of your life. In the future I think I will make
different choices around alcohol and drug use now
after the Amped4life message. I will be able to make
good decisions after seeing the consequences and
damage these things do.

Feedback from Teachers and Students

Dear Pat, THANK YOU. I think that, above all of the
drug and alcohol speeches trying to persuade us not
to take them, yours was the best!
STUDENT-BOTANY DOWNS HIGH SCHOOL

The presentation is more effective to me than

reading about it in books, because you can see how
passionate people like Pat get talking about it and
wanting to make sure others dont end up like him.
He was inspirational. Also knowing someone who
died on P I now understand more what he was going
through.
STUDENT WESTLAKE GIRLS

Dear Pat, I am writing to say thanks for all the

information, e.g. peer pressure, drugs and alcohol.
Ive learnt a lot at a young age. My Uncle was a
drug addict and a heavy alcoholic. He recently
(2009) died, I miss him very much. He was found
at a toilet in a pub. We turned him off life support.
It was really hard to do. My Mum just got awarded
her masters in counselling. (First class honors) Im
really proud. From your help you have encouraged
me and hopefully all my classmates to choose the
right choices. Im looking forward to a healthy life
although Im enjoying life so far, thanks.
YOURS THANKFULLY, LEIGHTON. STUDENT-AWAPUNI PRIMARY

Pat Buckley is a man with a punchy message, made

all the more effective because of his reference to
his own history and experience. He speaks in the
language of students, dealing with issues which are
real to them. His hard-hitting messages are served
up with compassion and concern for the well-being
PAT BUCKLEY LIFE SKILLS EDUCATOR

of his audience. Students are made well aware

that he speaks this way in order to help them
make wise decisions. I have heard Pat several
times now and he is always refreshing and real.
He speaks with clarity, vitality, has clear structure
and good visuals.

Hi Pat! I just want to say a big thank you for

talking to us today. You are truly an amazing,
moving story teller who has inspired us and
made us more aware of the dangers we are
most probably going to face in the near future.
You seem like such a genuine person who truly
believes in what you do. And I thank you for that.
All the best in your endeavours.

and experiences which made the presentation

come alive and become relevant for the
students. After each presentation there was an
overwhelming reception from the students for
Pat, which showed how deeply he managed to
connect with our students in just over an hour.
I would highly recommend Amped 4 Life to any
other school or organisation.

The best talk Ive ever heard. So personal and

straight up. Nothing was sugar-coated which just
showed the reality behinds drugs. I remember
you from the last time you came to our school
5 years ago. Youre a great guy. I think that your
presentation was inspiring and educational. You
are an amazing speaker & I admired how far you
have come. There was not a moment you didnt
have my undivided attention. Thank you so much
STUDENT- TRIDENT HIGH SCHOOL

Pat presented to the year 9 & 10 students and

then separately to the year 11-13 students. Both
presentations were appropriately designed
for the age groups of his audience and aligned
with the New Zealand Curriculum, to offer a
hard hitting, real and interactive presentation
on the effects of Drugs and Alcohol. The use of
media and a variety of presentation styles really
engaged our learners.

I want to say Thank you for showing me that not
