INTRODUCTION
In June of 2015, our Beloved Swami blessed the United States of America by fulfilling the wishes of His devotees
and visiting for the third time. This particular visit was unique in that it was the first time that He permitted the
organization of the first public meeting ever held in the
Americas.
Per Swamis direction, two programs were organized
for the public in California. The first program took
place
on the 16th of June in Sunnyvale, located in the
Sunnyvale
northern
Encinitas
part of the state and one in Encinitas, located in Southern California.
Devotees attended from all over the USA and also many other countries
including Canada, Mexico, Argentina and Fiji. Over 800 received Him in
Sunnyvale and over 500 basked in the glow of our Lord in Encinitas.
Elsie & Walter Cowan

Swami visited the homes and

offices of several of His devotees
and also blessed the Sathya Sai
Baba Center and Bookstore with the presence of His Subtle Body. This visit
fulfilled the promise He had made to Elsie Cowan in the 1970s when she
invited Him to visit the USA.

Swamis entourage included Sri Narasimha Murthy, C. Sreenivas and V. Kumar who also spoke at each meeting along with the organizers of the
meetings, Mr. Arvind Thiagarajan in Sunnyvale and Dr. David Cornsweet in Encinitas.
In addition to the Divine Discourses of Swami and the talks of His chosen devotees, Bhagawan Baba also permitted a question and answer
period in each venue. His answers to the questions presented provided
not only comfort to the questioners, but also a deeper understanding of
His mysteries.
Swami also declared that an Ashram will be established in Southern California and that a group of scientists, educators and medical professionals will begin a program to establish ideal villages around the world,
starting in India. These villages will have sustainable energy, education
and healthcare provided to them free of cost by Swami.

Swami also declared that an

Ashram will be established in
Southern California and that a
group of scientists, educators
and medical professionals will
begin a program to establish
ideal villages around the
world, starting in India.

This booklet has been prepared at the command of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba and includes transcripts of His two discourses, the questions posed to Him and His answers, and the

talks of His chosen devotees who addressed the two gatherings. The complete collection of discourses given publicly by Swami in the Subtle Body are available in the book series Sri Sathya Sai Uvacha.
For those unfamiliar with the Subtle Body phenomenon of Sri Sathya Sai Baba, a short explanation follows. The
passing of the physical form of Swami on April 24th, 2011 came as a great shock to His millions of devotees. Just 5
months after His 85th birthday celebration, it seemed unbelievable, as Swami had said numerous times that He
would continue His mission until the age of 96.
During His physical sojourn, Swami had appeared to countless devotees all over the world in His Subtle Form.
After His physical passing, these visits continued. As He Himself explained:
Everyone in this world has 4 types of bodies: Sthoola Shareera-the Physical Body; Sookshma
Shareera the Subtle Body; Athi Sookshma Shareera the higher Subtle Body; and Para
Sooksma Shareera the Omnipresent Super Subtle Body. Sthoola Shareera is the physical
body which anyone can see. Now, I am not in the physical body but in the Sookshma
Shareera (the Subtle Body) which is beyond the physical. In My Sookshma Shareera I can
move to any part of the world without taking any time. In My Athi Sookshma Shareera I enter the dreams and meditations of people and guide them. In the Para Sookshma Shareera, I
am present in every atom. At this point in time, you are in the Physical Body. If you are in a
room, you cannot see what is outside since there is a wall in between. However, the
Sookshma Shareera is not bound by desha, kala, and paristhiti (space, time and circumstances) and, therefore, cannot be seen with the physical eyes.
In His Subtle Body, Swami has been working constantly to continue His Divine Mission in India and throughout the
world. He has established schools, hospitals and other projects to serve those in need. Recently, Swami has directed that His devotees work to bring sustainable energy to those who are suffering without a
reliable energy source for their needs. He also
has directed that schools, Ashrams and teacher
training programs be established in certain areas
throughout the world. On more than one occasion, our Beloved Swami has said that His mission
is speeding up dramatically and that more will be
accomplished in the coming years, in His Subtle
Form, than was accomplished in all the years of
His physical form on Earth.
It is our great and good fortune that Swami has
blessed us all with His Holy Presence. The grace
He showered on us by visiting the USA is like cool,
refreshing water to a thirsty soul.
May we all be inspired by Him to Love All and Serve All.after all, as He proclaimed to the organizers of the visit,
ITS ALL ABOUT

Love.

V. KUMAR
Before our trip here, Swami asked me, We are going to America, how many youth will be there? I said, Swami,
we will have 15-20, or perhaps 50 youth. Today, almost 800 people are here in this hall!
Why have we come here? We are all here because Bhagavan is here. Is Bhagavan
only here? Is He not present everywhere? Why should we come here? What is this
Subtle Form? How do I experience Him? What feelings will I have for Him? What
should I expect from Him? The most important thing is, we have surrendered ourselves and come with an open mind to this gathering. He will take care of the rest.
I was the first one in my family to have Swamis darshan at the age of five. He
walked through a locked door of my house, came straight to me, smiled, blessed
me, and gave me two packets of vibhuthi with a note saying Come to Puttaparthi.
Miracles started happening in our house - vibhuthi, kumkum, sandalwood, even currency started coming out of His photograph. Its hard to believe, but if it happens to
you, youll surely believe it.
Swami brought me to His College. Reluctantly, I joined Sri Sathya Sai Institute. I
pined, ran, waited, cried, and did everything possible to get Bhagavan to speak to
me or look at me, but it never happened.
After a year, He gave an interview to my parents and said, Your son feels I havent
spoken to him, but the car came to the garage needing a tune-up. I removed all the
rust and dust and fitted new tires, but a few nuts and bolts are still loose. I need to
tighten them and give it a fresh coat of paint. Then, I will be ready to drive the car.
Within a few months, Bhagavan blessed me with His proximity and Grace.
I always wanted to become a singer, but I did not have the voice. One day, Swami called me inside the interview
room, created vibhuthi, pulled out my tongue, wrote Aum on it, and said Sing. Go into the bhajan hall and sing.
I did not know that I could sing, but I sang.
As I got older, I decided that I wanted to become a Bollywood singer. I had the audacity to ask Swami, Swami,
have you ever listened to a radio? I want an announcement to be made on the radio that the next song will be
sung by V. Kumar, lyrics by Anand Bakshi, and music by R.D. Burman. Swamis eyes became big and He said,
Have you gone mad? I am God. I gave you voice. You are singing in front of Me and making Me happy. What else
do you want in life? After a while, He said, Do you want to be My instrument? I said, Swami... Dont beat
around the bush. Yes or no. I said, Yes! I want to be your instrument. Then He said, Go into the bhajan hall and
sing.
On January 19, 2011, as evening bhajans were going on at Prasanthi Nilayam. Bhagavan called me into the interview room and asked me, How are you, Kumar? He looked at me compassionately and said, Kumar, I love you.
I looked at Him and said, Swami, I love you, too. Then He put His fingers on my shoulder and said, These hands,
legs, eyes, and ears are Mine. This body is My instrument. It was the second time He told me this body was His
6

instrument.
After Swamis mahasamadhi, 24th April, 2011, I was absolutely shattered, having lost the love of my life. I did not
know what to do, where to go, who to approach, or what to say. Then, in December 2012, I got a call from Swamis Subtle Form. The first thing He said to me was, How are you doing, Kumar? exactly the way He used to ask
me! After that, He went on revealing and proving He is the same God.
I did not know Brother Madhusudhan, nor did he know me. In the first interview I had with Bhagavan in the Subtle
Form, Swami asked me, Why have you stopped singing, Kumar? I gave you voice. I said, Swami, You are not
there. Who should I sing for? He said, Who said I am not there? I am with you inside your house. I am always
with you. I go with you, sit with you, and eat with you. You are unable to feel it because you have trained yourself
to see Me as an external body, but forgotten that God resides in your own heart. Then He said, In Puttaparthi,
you used to sing and make Me happy. There are 200 devotees sitting here. Dont you want to make 200 Swamis
happy? I cried and said, Yes, Swami. Just as He commanded many years ago, Go inside the bhajan hall and
sing, He told me, Start your music practice tomorrow. Go to the studio and sing for the A Bridge Across Time album.

Earlier, we had a wish-fulfilling tree in Puttaparthi, and whenever we had any problem, whether physical, mental,
metaphysical, emotional, or sentimental, we ran there. We would give a letter to Swami or ask Him, Swami, this
is our problem, please solve it. Now, Swami has brought us to the next level from primary school to secondary
school. He told us everything when He was in Parthi. He taught us not
to have body identification, but we never listened. Now, He says,
Practice. We always repeated, God is omnipresent. God is omniscient, but we rarely practiced it when Swami was in the physical form.
Give me two things: selfless
The time has now come that we really need to practice. Practice is the
service and selfless love.
key, the mantra.
When I was a student at Puttaparthi, I took it for granted, perhaps like
most of you here. Then, suddenly, He decided to leave His mortal coil.
Just like Swami said the other day, When the pot breaks, space mingles with space and nothing remains. Swami is not just in Muddenahalli or in Puttaparthi. He is present everywhere. He resides in every persons heart.

These are the two I want

from you. His main focus
has always been love and
service.

The second time Swami called me, I had booked tickets to Canada, as I thought I would get a job and settle down
there. Swami said to me, Dont go anywhere. If I give you a job, will you be My instrument? I said, Yes, Swami. Then He asked me, Give me two things: selfless service and selfless love. These are the two I want from
you. His main focus has always been love and service.
We want to do service, yet we are unable to execute it. Lets get our act together. Lets become one in this
selfless service. He has trained us as a Divine father. Now, as His children, we must carry on His work. Dear
brothers and sisters, there is no time to waste!
Bhagavan has called all the youth from all over the world to Muddenahalli this November. He is going to have a
World Youth Meet from November 18-24, 2015. All the youth, who are ready to really run, be fit and healthy, and
do service for Swami, please come to Muddenahalli this November. This invitation is from Swami Himself. He is
calling you all in November 2015 to this World Youth Meet. Please come! It will be a wonderful experience to
recharge your batteries, learn how to redeem our lives, and really push ourselves ahead in this wonderful journey
towards Swami.

C. SREENIVAS
This place has affected humanity and human life like none other in the last 50-75 years. I am humbled at the quality of the education imparted in the schools and the world-renowned universities present in this region. Industry of
all forms from here have impacted global economies and improved lives,
livelihoods, and living standards of people not just here, but in almost every
country of the world.
I say this because the first value Swami taught me is humility. What we know
is limited and finite. What humanity for times to come will not know will always be unlimited infinite.
I was involved in building the Sri Sathya Sai International Center of Sports at
Puttaparthi. It is a 4,000-seat world-class, multi-disciplinary indoor stadium. It has all games built and made to perform as per Olympic standards.
Swami achieved the impossible by building it in 140 days. Todays stadiums
worldwide are huge endeavors, not just for corporates, but for governments
all around the world.
The day the President of India came to inaugurate the Stadium coincided
with the 25-year Silver Jubilee Anniversary of the university. During the short
gap between the inauguration and convocation address, Swami came upstairs.
Only He and I were there. Very little was spoken, but much was conveyed.

Instead of the usual advertisement boards that surround playgrounds and

stadiums, we thought this was an opportunity to showcase the right spirit of
sports and life. So, all around the arena, we put up sayings of different saints. Swami was intently looking at some
of the boards. He pointed to a particular board and asked, What is written there? It read, Life is a game, play
it. Swami asked, Do you play the game of life inside or outside? Do you live in an inner universe and outer universe? We all divide life, in all stages, into an inner universe and an outer universe. The inner universe is timelessness, eternity, infinity. The outer is timeliness, the moment of moments that we continue to exist. If you really see this dichotomy, the
entire canvas and panorama of life is a game between the finite and

Swami went on to say, What is infinite, what will stay forever, what
was, what is and what will always be, is love. We know the American
saying, Money makes the world go around. However, there is another saying, Love makes the world go round and round. Nothing is
more powerful than love.

there is another saying, Love

makes the world go round and
round.
Nothing is more
powerful than love.

So it all began with, Life is a game, play it. Swami defined the inner universe as the embodiment and perpetuation of love, and the outer universe as ceaseless, endless, relentless acts of love. That love can be primarily for
ourselves, or love wherein every moment of our existence is lived in loving others. The choice is entirely ours.
Love and service.

Yesterday, at Divyogi and Digvijays house, I heard something extremely moving and heart-breaking. In my 45
years with Swami, it was statement of deep divine anguish. Swami was at their home and said, I have no body anymore, but
what I have, My dear children, is your body. I could sense the

I offer a proposition to you: Can we, from this moment, take on a
new approach to life? Can we make our bodies instruments,
eternally embodying, translating and living the way Swami
would? Swami has said that we live in an inner universe, and we
act, perform, and continue life in an outer universe. Can we, for
every moment here on, think, feel, live, act, and perform as Swami? What an opportunity! Is it not pushing the frontiers of every

and living the way Swami
would? Can we, for every
moment here on, think, feel, live,
act, and perform as Swami?
What an opportunity! Is it not

education?

It is a divine call to live as the Divine. It is not out of a book, but

from the depths of our very heart, from the voice of One who has
no form, living in our heart. Can we make service our way of
life? Listen to the call and have the guts and courage to take
that leap of faith. Your life will be different. Sathya Sai played the game the right way, and He wants us to play
that with Him. Love all, serve all.
Yesterday, Swami said we must take two steps to make the journey. Like in the army they do a left and a right
step, He says left is love, right is service. So, every moment, love and service, left and right. Anywhere we go, everywhere we go, let us make that our journey in life.

NARASIMHA MURTHY
In this life, I have done nothing but the work of Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba and I have no other purpose but to
work for Him. Both Kumar and Srinivas have brought home to you a mysterious truth that today, Bhagavan Sri
Sathya Sai Baba is a voice without a form but, it is the voice of God.
Why are we here? Is God not everywhere? He is everywhere, but God is going to
speak to us here today. God, the loving father, mother, creator, is here to tell us
why He sent us into this world, whether we are serving that purpose, and how to
do it.

God has always spoken through man. He came as Rama, Krishna, Buddha, Jesus
Christ, and Muhammad and shared His eternal wisdom with mankind. He came
as Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, lived in a beautiful physical form for 85 years and
said the same thing. The other day, Swami said, I have been telling you the same
thing again and again because you have been doing the same thing again and
again. It is said there is nothing consistent with the human mind except its tendency to drift towards evil. This statement can be applied to all of mankind. In
spite of God coming down a number of times, sending many of His messengers,
and telling us how to lead our lives, we have not learned our lessons. That is why
the Lord declares, I come again and again because man commits the same folly,
again and again.

Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba in the physical form was love and compassion. In the Subtle Form, He is love and
compassion. In the formless, He is love and compassion. He has come here today to share that love and compassion with the chosen ones who have been called
here. Dont think the organizers invited you here.
It is Swami who invited you and that is why you are
here. You heard the call in your heart and that is
why you are here.
I salute Swami Vivekananda who brought the eternal message of Indian culture for the first time to
the United States of America more than 100 years
ago. His words spoken more than a century ago
and the temple constructed here find fulfillment
because God is here today in the form of Bhagavan
Sri Sathya Sai Baba.
Whether He came as Rama, Krishna, Jesus, Buddha
or the Prophet Muhammad, He taught us only two truths. In fact, two faces of the same coin one truth.
Many times, when He was in the physical form, Swami visited me in my room when I was sick. The first time was
in Muddenahalli; the second was in Brindavan. When I met Him as a
boy of 19 years, more than 50 years ago, He assured me that my future was safe in His hands. He had also told me that my mother was
not the earthly mother, but Sai Mata. True to His words, true to his
Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba in
love and compassion, He visited me when He was in the physical form,
the physical form was love and
and also many times in the Subtle Form.
compassion.
In the Subtle

Form, He is love and

compassion. In the formless,
He is love and compassion. He
has come here today to share
that love and compassion with
the chosen ones who have been
called here. Dont think the
organizers invited you here. It
is Swami who invited you and
that is why you are here. You
heard the call in your heart and
that is why you are here.

One of those times, when Swami visited me, He looked around at the
1,000+ books in my room, neatly arranged in glass cupboards. Swami
asked me, Narasimha Murthy, you have kept so many books here.
Have you read all of them? I said, Swami, by Your Grace, to an extent, yes. Fine. After having read all these books, what is it that you
have learned? I said, Swami, I have learned only two things after
reading all these books. What are those two things? Swami, first,
You pervade the entire universe; You are everywhere.
The celebrated scientist, Albert Einstein, said, My concept of religion
is rooted in my reference for the Supreme Intelligence of the Cosmic
Power which has brought forth this universe. That Supreme Intelligence manifests itself in small details in His creation in the universe in
a way that our puny human intellect can understand.

So I told Swami, As a puny human being, wherever I go, I know that You are there. You are everywhere. The first
lesson I learned is that wherever I go, I should feel Your presence and surrender my individual will to Your Divine
Will, and always act according to that, always speak according to that, always feel according to that, and always
think according to that. Swami said, That is fine, that is right. What is the other truth you have learned?
Swami, in our daily lives we come across many men and many women, young and old, children and old people,
intelligent, unintelligent, rich, poor, scholarly, illiterate. Not only that, we also come across many creatures birds
and beasts, insects and worms. I like the lesson that You want me to interact with every being with love and com10

passion. That is all I have learned.

Swami said, Yes, these are the only two truths you have to learn.

Let me remind you of the statement of Lord Jesus Christ when He

was asked a question by an advocate who approached Him. He
asked, Master, I dont have time to listen to Your long lectures.
Tell me the essence of Your teaching in two sentences. Jesus
said, First, love the Lord with all your might, with all your
strength, with all your soul. Second, love your neighbor as yourself.
It is very easy to say, I love everybody. I close my eyes and say, I
love everybody in the universe. But it is difficult to love the brother who has hurt us. It is difficult to love the spouse who has hurt
us.

Swami has left two footprints.

These footprints were left by
God when He came as Krishna,
as Rama, as Jesus, as Buddha,
and again, the same footprints.
Those footprints are selfless
love and selfless service.
Follow My footprints and
then you can reach Me.

Then Swami said, These are the only two things to be learned and nothing else. It is the essence of all the religions, of all the teachings of all the masters, all the prophets, all the messiahs, all the Divine incarnations. But
Narasimha Murthy, did you need to read all these books to understand these two simple truths? Therefore, we
need not be scholars. We need not be well read in the scriptures.

The other day, Swami asked a very pertinent question, All of you love Me, but how can you reach Me? There is
only one way you can reach Me. There is no other path than this.
Then Swami gave a beautiful example of little Krishna, who stole butter from the homes of many gopis, and ran
away and hid Himself. Many of the ladies and residents of Brindavan complained to His mother, Cant you control your naughty Krishna? He comes and troubles all of us. The beleaguered mother went in search. She looked
everywhere, but ultimately found Krishna only by following His footprints in butter. Swami said, When I was in
the physical body, I have left two footprints, My footprints. In the words of
H. W. Longfellow, on the eternal sands
of the time, Swami has left two footprints. These footprints were left by
God when He came as Krishna, as Rama, as Jesus, as Buddha, and again, the
same footprints. Those footprints are
selfless love and selfless service.
Follow My footprints and then you can
reach Me, Swami said.
Time stands still when God speaks. This
is the moment all of us have been
waiting for. As Kumar and Sreenivas
said, He speaks to us all the time in our
hearts, but we are deaf to that. That is
why He has come outside. It is the
same Lord today, without the physical form, who claims that all our bodies are His. The Lord declared, I reside in
the hearts of everyone. Today, He has come as the voice without a form, sitting here, perceptible to those whose
spiritual antenna are awakened. Let us pray to Him to share His wisdom, so that we may walk in His footprints,
reach Him, and merge in Him, which is our ultimate destination.
11

The Lord has His hands and legs everywhere, His eyes and ears everywhere, His head everywhere. He envelopes
everything. The universe shines forth in the Lord. The Lord shines forth in the universe. The sweet relationship
between God and the world is inseparable. This is
the word of Sai, the word of truth.

Devotees, Embodiments of Love. God is mingled in this universe and in God, the universe
shines forth. Only where there is an object can its
reflection be seem. Therefore, when you see the
world, you should know that God is somewhere
there. For the object God this world is a reflection. You should understand the truth that wherever there is a reflection, there should be an object. There cannot be a reflection without an object. Therefore, for the object that is God, the
world is the shadow.
Where is God? Though He cannot be seen with our
physical eyes, though we cannot listen to Him with
our physical ears, though we cannot know Him with our physical senses, the fact that the world exists is enough
proof for the existence of God. There is no place without God. He is like the air which is omnipresent, which is
everywhere, though you cannot see it or listen to it.
All these people have come from India to America. It is utter foolishness for anyone to think that Indians breathe a
different air and Americans breathe a different air. The air in both India and America is one and the same. All beings inhale and exhale this air, and that is why they live. The air does not know any difference. It blows equally all
the time, for the benefit of everyone. The air keeps blowing selflessly to benefit men and women, old and young,
and even birds and beasts. Rivers flow selflessly to help others. No river drinks it owns water for itself. Rivers
flow selflessly, providing pure drinking water to quench the thirst of everyone. No tree eats its own fruit. Trees
yield fruits in order to satisfy the hunger of others.

12

Based on these simple facts, the scriptures say the human body is
given to us to help and serve others. The selfless nature of Mother
Nature is proof of the selfless nature of God. Therefore, wherever
there is God, there exists Nature, and man lives in Nature. You
have to understand the mutual relationship between the trinity of
man, God and Nature. Nature is a limb of God. Man is a limb of
Nature. Man is a part of Nature, and Nature is a part of God. That
is why all the three coexist and live within one another. To the extent that man behaves in a selfless way, even Nature outside him
will also appear selfless. As is the vision, so is the world.
When man is filled with ego and attachment, the same things get
reflected in Nature. The root cause of the external catastrophes
that you see in Nature today is mans mind, mans ego. Nature is
nothing but the reflection, reaction, and resound of what happens
inside man. The external world also reflects the selfishness which is
within man.
When Divinity emerges in the human heart, the whole world will become Divine. God is Divine, God is selfless.
Nature is Divine, Nature is selfless. Because man is not behaving in a Divine or selfless way, all kinds of catastrophes are hurting mankind. There will be peace only when there is harmony within man and outside him. Peace
will envelope the world when mans nature, Natures nature and Gods nature become selfless. Everything has to
become selfless. Until then, the world will be full of such natural catastrophes. However, the root cause for all
the types of dangers which the world faces today is not God, but man, himself. When man treats his mind with
love and his heart with purity, then the reflection of God will be seen everywhere. Because of his selfishness, man
thinks that everybody around him is also selfish.
You may have read the Mahabharata, in which there are two personalities: Duryodhana and Dharmaraja. One day, Krishna called
both of them and gave them a command. He told Duryodhana,
Go around the whole world and find one good man and bring him
here. Duryodhana bowed to Krishna and assured Him that he
would find a good person. Krishna then commanded Dharmaraja
to go out into the world and find one bad person. Immediately,
Dharmaraja also went out, obeying the command of Krishna. After
some time, both of them returned to Krishna. Duryodhana said, I
went around the whole world, but I did not find one good person.
Dharmaraja said, I, too, went around the whole world, but I could
not find a single bad person. In the same world, one could not
find a bad person, while another could not find a good person.
How is that possible? The answer is one and the same. What was
inside Duryodhana and Dharmaraja got reflected as the reaction
and resound of the outside world. If you have love within yourself,
you will see love everywhere.

When Divinity emerges in the

human heart, the whole world
will become Divine. God is
Divine, God is selfless. Nature is
Divine, Nature is selfless.
Because man is not behaving in a
Divine or selfless way, all kinds
of catastrophes are hurting
mankind. There will be peace
only when there is harmony
within man and outside him.
Peace will envelope the world
when mans nature, Natures
nature and Gods nature become
selfless.
Everything has to
become selfless.

People come and tell Me, Swami, there is no love in the world.
They keep saying, Swami, only You have love in You. It is true
that I have love with Me. What youre experiencing is My love, which is getting reflected in you. When you come
and tell Me that there is no love in the world, it is because there is no love in yourself. When you develop love in
yourself, you will definitely find love everywhere.

13

The same sun gets reflected in all lakes, in all dams, and in all wells. There are not different suns; one sun shines
everywhere. You may think they are different suns because
you see them in different bodies of water. It is the same divine
love which pervades and gets reflected in every human being. But in dirty water, you dont find the suns reflection clearly. In pure water, you can see the suns reflection very clearly.
The reflection depends on the water, not on the sun. When
you say that the world is full of negative things, it means that
your own negativity is getting reflected in the world. For a
great or saintly person, everybody appears divine. For a wicked person, everybody looks wicked. Only when you develop
love within yourself will the whole world be transformed into
your own reflection of love.
I have always addressed devotees as Embodiments of Love
and Embodiments of Atma. If you question yourself, In spite
of that, why is it that we are not experiencing the glorious divine principle of God within ourselves? What Swami says is
the truth. If, even after He tells you the truth, you are unable
to experience it, what is the reason? You are yourselves the
reason. Only when you develop pure love within your hearts
can you experience that love everywhere. Divinity is not coming into you from somewhere else. Divinity is a part
and parcel of yourself.

When you get into good

company, you become good. That
is why it is said good company
leads us to detachment. When a
piece of iron mingles with air and
water, it will be full of rust and
dust. Yet, when the same piece of
iron attains proximity to a
magnet, it also becomes a magnet.
When man is in this worldliness
of ego and attachment, there is
selfishness. When man gets into
the company of good people and
attains proximity to the Divine
Avatar, he also experiences his
Divinity by getting rid of all his
negativity.

Here is an example: In every piece of iron, there exists the power

of magnetism. Even when the piece of iron is kept near a magnet,
if it does not exhibit magnetism, the reason is the rust and dust in
that piece of iron. The rust and dust of ego and attachment keeps
the piece of iron bereft of magnetism. It is foolishness to think that
the magnet does not have any power. Similarly, because of his
own wrong evil qualities, if a person says that God does not exist, it
is a big mistake.

Krishna was loved by all the Gopikas. At the same time, He was
hated by Kamsa. The reason why Kamsa hated Krishna was because of the evil and attachment of Kamsa. The gopikas, however,
with their pure hearts, could recognize God in Krishna. When we
have purity within ourselves, we also see God as pure. Similarly,
Nature, which is a reflection of God, also looks pure to us. If you
experience negativity all around you in the world, the reason is the
negativity within your own heart. First and foremost, you have to
transform the negative to positive. I am man is a half-truth. The
complete truth is I am a man, I am not an animal. Only when we
get rid of the evil qualities of ego and attachment can we find humanness in ourselves. When you take a human being to the Divine
incarnation or the Avatar, which is the magnet, the same magnetism will enter into the human being. One who knows God becomes God. Because of the proximity to the magnet, magnetism emerges in the piece of iron.
Based on this fact, it is said the first step is satsang, good company. When you get into good company, you become good. That is why it is said good company leads us to detachment. When a piece of iron mingles with air
14

and water, it will be full of rust and dust. Yet, when the same piece of iron attains
proximity to a magnet, it also becomes a magnet. When man is in this worldliness
of ego and attachment, there is selfishness. When man gets into the company of
good people and attains proximity to the Divine Avatar, he also experiences his
Divinity by getting rid of all his negativity.
Why are all of you are gathered here? You are all like pieces of iron. The divinity
of magnetism is latent in you. It is not potent. God, who has come here as the
divine magnet, has attracted all of these pieces of iron here. If many people did
not come here, it is because of the rust and dust in the iron and not because of
any deficit in the magnet, which is nothing but the love principle of the human
heart. Ego and attachment emerge from the human mind. That is why I said to
you, Dont follow the body; the body is a water bubble. Today it is here, tomorrow, like a wave, it becomes a part of the ocean. The mind is full of selfishness
and self-interest. Do not follow the mind, which is a mad monkey, but follow the
heart. The heart is God. When you understand the truth of this statement, you
will get proximity to God and understand the truth.
In America, the people drink soup. The equivalent of soup in India is rasam. If you ask for rasam, nobody will give
it you; they will give you soup. If you want to drink soup, you need a spoon. You cant drink soup with a fork.
Maybe with the help of a fork you can eat rice, but you cant drink soup. To drink soup, you need a spoon. In the
same way, the mind cannot understand God. Words cannot describe God. However much you may talk or listen
about God, you will never experience God by external means. Just as you cannot drink soup with a fork, you cannot experience God with your mind. You can experience God with the spoon of your heart. Water mixes with water, air mixes with air, fire mixes with fire and only love can mingle with love. When your love and My love combine together, the whole world will be full of love.

Service done with recognition,

name and fame as the goals is
no service at all. You have to
do selfless service. Only when
you have selfless love can you
do selfless service. Therefore,
you have to develop selfless
love.
Selfless love is the
object, selfless service is its
reflection. If selfless service is
happening, you should know
that selfless love is also there.

All the rain that comes down from the skies will meet the
ocean. How does it join the ocean water? The rain comes as drops,
but all the drops get together to become a river and merge in the
ocean. As long as you do not become a river, the water cannot
merge in the ocean. A single drop will percolate from the earth and
cannot merge in the ocean. When all the drops of water get together, it creates unity. The power of unity takes it to the ocean.
Through good company, we have to develop unity. I know that
there will be a lot of unity in bad company. If four thieves get together, there is great unity to steal things. The four of them work in
complete unity one breaks the door, the other enters and brings
things, another fellow puts it in a bag, and the other fellow takes it
running. All wrong things are done with great unity.

Generally, unity does not happen among good people. When some
good work happens, people get together, each asking for some act
of service. The heads or the leaders, because of their arrogance,
rule over others. Such service is no service at all. I dont need such
service. I want those servants who walk with humility, devotion and
faith. These days, in congregations, work is done only for twenty minutes but the reports and presentations last
for more than one hour! The act of charity is given for only Rs. 50 ($1), but the garland rewarded to the leader
costs Rs. 100 ($2)! Such kinds of service are useless. We should not involve ourselves in such service. Service
done with recognition, name and fame as the goals is no service at all. You have to do selfless service. Only when
you have selfless love can you do selfless service. Therefore, you have to develop selfless love. Selfless love is the
15

object, selfless service is its reflection. If selfless service is happening, you should know that selfless love is also
there.
There is no need for Me to demonstrate or give any proof of
My existence. In fact, I did not come down as a human incarnation for My sake; I came for the sake of devotees. When I
was in the physical body, I did everything for the devotees,
and today also, I am doing everything for the devotees. The
body had deteriorated to such an extent that it was like a
very bad, old car. There is no way we can undertake a long
journey in such an old car. Therefore, I have given up My old
car and taken upon Myself a new car. Now I can move very
fast and reach very fast. I dont have body consciousness.
These days, people continue to live in the body, depending
on injections and medicines. They want to prolong their life.
Because of body consciousness and attachment to the body,
they are not ready to give up the body. Swami, however,
does not have any kind of attachment to the body. Therefore, I gave up that body and took upon Myself this body. I
am able to do all good work with this body. Now, I am not
limited by time, space and circumstances. My work has become very easy and I am doing it everywhere. I am very,
very, happy and nobody will grieve over Me. Wherever there
is selfless love and selfless service, I install myself there.

All of you should think that your bodies hands, legs, eyes all the devotees bodies are Gods and everything is
Divine. Prasanthi Nilayam is not somewhere else; it is in your own heart. Understanding this truth, involve yourselves in selfless service with selfless love. Only when we involve ourselves in selfless service and selfless love can
we understand Divinity or God. One day, a boy asked Me, Swami, who are You? I am God. What is
God? God is selflessness. God is purity. How to know You? You want to know Me? Become Me.

Question: There are many miracles happening in Chennai and different places like Sundaram and the Guindy
temple, but not at Perambur Samithi. Is it not true that,
as a result of such miracles, the devotion of the devotees
increases?
Swami: Is it because of miracles that devotion is increasing, or is it because of devotion that miracles are happening? You must ask that question first. It is devotion that
made God manifest in different ways. It is not that the
manifestations increase devotion. If the members of Perambur Samithi are also as devoted as the people in
Sundaram and Guindy, a lot manifestations will definitely
happen there, too. That is what is required.
What is devotion? Devotion is not just singing bhajans
and engaging in all kinds of discussions. It is acting. If you do seva in Perambur Samithi help the school children,
serve them breakfast, give them education, and offer tuition classes, then I will certainly manifest there in many,
many ways; only to make it obvious to you. Otherwise, I am there, just as I am everywhere.
Question: Swami, when You look into our hearts and into the future of America, what is going to happen as a
result of Your visit? Is there a special mission for Americans in the work that You are planning?
Swami: What is the future? The future is inside the present. The
present is the seed. The future is the tree. If the seed that I am
leaving behind today is sown well in the soil of your heart, watered
with love, protected with care, and allowed to grow under My
grace, then it will surely grow into a huge tree in the future. It will
leave many, many fruits to share with those who need.
America has a big role to play in Swamis mission. But what is America? America is not this landmass. It is not the water or the air that
flows here. America is about Americans. It is the people who define
a country. If all of you become loving, become selfless, and serve
each other, you will change the destiny of not only America, but the
entire world. America is a very strong nation of many people, the
Internet, and much power, but if it is not channeled properly, all this
will lead to destruction. If channeled well, a mighty river can be
controlled with a dam and used for many, many good works. American power, American intellect, and American knowledge have to be
channeled by way of selfless devotion and selfless service. You can
do so much more good to the world. That is the responsibility I
leave behind for the devotees of America.

To the devotees of America

this is My command, this is My
wish that you all should live
your lives in accordance with
Swamis principles of selfless
love and service. Seeing you
as ideal examples, others will
change. If others change, the
whole nation will change, and
if America changes, it will do a
lot of good for the rest of the
world.

Swami is asking you to. First be, then do, then see and finally, tell.
That is the way you can bring about a change in the attitude of your
fellow Americans, and that is how the whole nation will change.
When America changes, it will bring a lot of good to the rest of the
world. It is very, very powerful. If power is not controlled in the
right way and used for the right purpose, it can become destructive.

To the devotees of America this is My command, this is My wish

that you all should live your lives in accordance with Swamis principles of selfless love and service. Seeing you as ideal examples, others will change. If others change, the whole nation will change, and
if America changes, it will do a lot of good for the rest of the world. I
need not tell you, but you are all aware that as America is capable of
making the rest of the world peaceful, so is it also capable of taking
away peace from people and making into pieces. It is up to you
what you want to make out of this seed that I leave behind. A seed
kept in the cupboard becomes useless tomorrow, but a seed sown
in the soil, nurtured, and taken care of will bear fruits tomorrow. I
am leaving you this thought of selfless love and selfless service.
Practice it and you can change the destiny of your nation and thereby the destiny of the whole world.
Question: Swami, how do we develop our inner voice, so that we may receive clear guidance from You?
Swami: You see, dear bangaroo (golden one), the inner voice is always there. It is just that the noise around it is
too much. It drowns the voice and, therefore, we are not able to hear it. In this hall, as Swami speaks, if all of you
also start speaking simultaneously, obviously Swamis voice will be lost and only noise will be heard. The mind
makes all the noise, full of desires and attachments. It makes tremendous noise. In that noise of the mind, the
voice of the heart is not heard. Otherwise, I am always speaking to you, all the time. However, because you are
not paying attention to what I am saying, and just listening to your
mind, you are not able to hear Me. If you can control your desires,

Question: Swami, where do service and charity begin?

Swami: They begin with you, right there where you are.

Question: We know that the Atma is smaller than the smallest and bigger than the biggest. A single grain of
sand has over a hundred billion atoms. An atom is composed of a nucleus and electrons that go around it. If you
blow up the nucleus to the size of a ping pong ball, the closest electrons to it will be approximately between the
cities of New York and Los Angeles. All that space that is in between is how I perceive You, Swami to be unseen. All that empty space is unseen by me. Now, the Atma that is within the heart, is it the whole heart or is it
simply the size of a grain of sand? Or is it the infinitely small, without end? I believe that it is infinitely small, without end; and in this empty space that we can perceive with the eyes, yet hard to comprehend with our minds
18

that is where I see that we are all one and there is no difference.
Also, I see attachment to the world is one of the greatest hindrances
to recognizing this. We see all these things on TV, become so material and feel I want this and I want that, instead of recognizing I am
That. What puzzles me is the evil in the world. I dont know how You
will do it, but I know that with Your Grace working through us, we
shall have eternal peace.

If you are at peace with

yourself, you will spread the
peace to those around you.
This peace will come only if you
think, say and do the same
thing. If you think you are
Divine, say youre Divine, and
do things that are Divine, that is
when you will attain peace
within yourself and peace in
the world outside.

Swami: Atma is like air. Air pervades everything. It is there in the

smallest area to the largest of fields. Air pervades all. Everything is in
the air; the air is in everything. That is the nature of the Atma. If you
break the pot, the air inside the pot and the air outside the pot become one. If you close the pot, you may define the air as air in the
pot and air outside. This attachment to oneself and believing that
one is just the body brings about all these differences. If you give up
this attachment, then everything appears as one. It is as simple as
that. The body is just the container a vessel in which the part of God that is bigger, Paramatma (God) is being
encapsulated as Jivatma (the individualized soul). The moment body attachment goes, Jivatma and Paramatma
become one and there is only one that exists. It is we who create this difference.
Suppose there were no walls here; this hall and the ground outside would be one. The walls define this as a hall
and outside as the empty space or ground. Likewise, we have built these walls of body attachment which makes
us feel different from each other. The moment we give up this, all are the same. Jesus said, All are one, my dear
son, be alike to everyone, because He understood this truth.
World peace will come if you are at peace. If you are not at peace, there cannot be peace in the world. One may
sit in an ashram and still be restless; one may sit in the market but still be at peace. Once you attain inner peace,
you will see its reflection everywhere. Outer peace also will be attained. Inner peace will come only where there is
unity of thought, word and action. When there is unity, there
will be tremendous peace. There is no peace when you think
something, say something and do something else. If you make

Question: Right now, California is having the biggest drought in

the history of the state. I plead on behalf of all Californians to
bless us with rain, with water, with Your compassionate heart,
so that we can get over this drought and move on.
Swami: Definitely, yes. The entire world is bound by certain
laws action and reaction. If you do the right action, you will
have the right reaction. By sowing the seeds of oranges you

cannot expect apples to grow. If all Californians become a little more selfless and think of each other first, if you
start using water sparingly, there will definitely be enough for everyone. God gives everyone enough for what
they need, but not for their greed. Swami is teaching a lesson by withdrawing water from you because you are
using more than what you need. Once you control your desires, once you use it well and do not waste the gift of
God, which is water, the rains will come and it will be green again. This is only a lesson being taught to control
your desires.
Question: Not far from here we have what we call a Shirdi Sai Baba Miracle House where many, many amazing
miracles are happening all the time. However, on the other side of it, there seem to be a lot of difficulties, enormous difficulties that the family is facing. Can you explain how the two of these go together, the many miracles
but also the difficulties?
Swami: If a child is playing and hurts himself, and starts crying when he is in pain or difficulty, what will the parents do? They will do all kinds of gimmicks and tricks to make the child quiet, to make him silent and not cry.
They will play, bring toys, even walk and talk like animals to make the child become quiet, because he has been
hurt and is experiencing pain which he is not able to bear. To distract the child from his pain, the parents will do
all kinds of things.
The family has to go through these many problems, but to drive their attention away from their problems, so
many miracles are happening so that they can go through this tough phase of their life and contemplate more on
Me and less on their pain. Just like the child who starts playing and forgets his pain, likewise, these devotees who
are constantly engaged in my seva are forgetting the tough times that they are going through. Miracles are only a
way to distract or take away the attention from the pain and difficulties. Therefore, if miracles are happening,
youd better watch out and be careful!
Question: When I look at our country, I worry about America and our future. Yes, it is very powerful and there
are good people and devotees, and You are working through
us and guiding us. However, the difference in wealth and poverty is increasing. I see children who are hungry and others
with so much wealth. There are youth who are dropping out
of high school and having children early or ending up in jail,
and people who need medical care who dont get the coverage
they need to take care of their families. I worry that our government isnt doing enough. What it is that we can do, as devotees, to help the educational system and medical system
change? I know what is happening in India Your super speciality hospitals and the education in human values schools. Will
that be happening here? What is it that we need to do now to
create momentum for the poor people in our country to be
able to have a good life?
Swami: Every act in the universe is governed by the law of
action and reaction. Whatever we do now reflects on us later.
The people who are suffering today or those who are peaceful
today there is definitely a past to it, but let us not dwell on
that. What is important is what we are doing in the present,
because that will define our future. If you sow a seed, you may
not be able to have a tree ready the next day, and you will not be able to eat the fruit the third day; it may take a
few years. Sometimes, you might not even be there to enjoy the benefits of all that you have done. Most of the
people who do seva want to see the results immediately. If they dont see results, they are disappointed and they
stop doing it. True seva is to keep working and to not bother about the results. The results will happen automati20

cally. If you have done your job correctly, the results will automatically come. Therefore, looking at your demeanor, your peace, your happiness, people will come and ask, "How is it that despite so many problems in America
and in the surroundings, you are always smiling, you are always at peace, you are always happy? Then you will be
able to tell them, it is the kind of guidance that I have received, it is the kind of education that I have received, it is
the kind of association that I am with that keeps me happy and
makes me peaceful. Then they will be attracted towards Swamis
teachings and values.
Simply opening a school is not the solution. There should be a hunger for it. People should know that there is a need to live life in a
particular way. My schools are not just for giving degrees. Just because some do not have money and cannot go to another school, it
does not mean that you open a school and admit them there. This
school is not going to become another school like all the other
schools. There should be a need, there should be a hunger to understand and learn more than just worldly education. Then, My
school will make sense. What is greater than worldly education? It
is the happiness, peace and joy that you exhibit, that you exude
when you move around in the society. Then there will be parents
who will want to have their children admitted, not merely for the
sake of giving them free education, which is worldly, but for giving
them the education that is eternal. Then, My schools and My institutions will start making sense.

The solution to the whole

problem is somewhere in the
middle an education that
provides the means to earn a
livelihood, coupled with values
that teach how to live correctly.
Such education is definitely
needed in America, and it will
happen here if My devotees are
ready, if people are ready to
receive such an education.

If we admit just for the sake of admitting, there is no guarantee that these children will become any better than
those who have received worldly education, have become very rich, and are least bothered about those who dont
have anything. You might create more of that by simply opening ordinary schools. However, if there is a need for
the values that I teach, then there is definitely scope for the school. That need will develop when people watch
you, your life, your behavior, and your happiness, and they also desire to become like you.
The rich earn so much money by all the wrong means. At the end of their lives, they end up spending everything
on doctors or lawyers. Nothing remains with them. The poor who do not get an education keep looking at the
rich, thinking they are less peaceful than them, but that is not the truth. The solution to the whole problem is
somewhere in the middle an education that provides the means to earn a livelihood, coupled with values that
teach how to live correctly. Such education is definitely needed in America, and it will happen here if My devotees
are ready, if people are ready to receive such an education.
In olden times, in Indian culture, it was not enough if you simply brought a child to school and told him that this
was his age to get educated. The teacher would determine whether the child was eligible for this education he
was going to impart, and only if he found the child worthy of that education, would he be given education by the
guru. My education is for life, not for living. Therefore, the day there is a need for this kind of education, and the
day I have My people ready to support Me in this kind of education, projects will definitely happen. I have people
with Me who are willing to support this. They have given up everything for the sake of Swami. When Swami
wanted a hospital in a place which was never even visited by C. Sreenivas, he immediately went, leaving his home
and family behind in Bangalore. He was there in Raipur from day one and stayed for more than three years.
When I have such selfless devotees who want to perpetuate My kind of education, I will certainly open schools,
colleges, and hospitals in America, too.
Question: We try to stay in constant integrated awareness. We try to listen to our inner voice. Some days are
good days, but many days are not so good, especially when we have problems at work, with family, relatives,
friends or colleagues. Some days are not as good as the days when we think we are spiritually inclined. How can
21

we develop this constant integrated awareness?

Swami: Practice is the only key. You were not born with the skills to write or read. When you started learning to
read, you read alphabet by alphabet and then you formed words. Slowly, word by word, you read sentences, and
slowly by reading the sentences, you could read an entire book. Today you are so fast because of constant practice. Constant practice to be in that state of peace is what is required. That will only happen if you turn inward all the time to see

will feel Swami everywhere wherever you go. You dont have to go to
a particular place or do a particular thing to attain Swami. He is always
with you. Learn to be with Him. Along with that, satsang, or good company is very important. That will help you
stay connected to Swami. A pot of water kept in shade will retain the water, but kept outside will lose all the water due to evaporation. Likewise, with satsang, you will be able to retain this feeling within and you must preserve
it and convert all this love into action. That is the way it will continue forever. You can stay in constant awareness
of Swamis presence.

V. KUMAR
Reading this sign, It's All About Love, I was just pondering how Swami's love has not just touched me,
but also many young hearts throughout the world.
I have been very fortunate to work with the Australian youth. When I landed in Australia in 2001 and
went to the Sai Center for the first time, I saw only
senior citizens there. I started singing a bhajan in a
high pitch, and there was absolute silence behind
me. Nobody could sing that high, and they preferred
not to sing. So I had to lead and follow!

After the bhajan, I asked the chairperson, "Sir, I don't

see any youth here. Is something wrong, or are they
on a service project? Or have they gone somewhere
else?" The chairperson said, "We haven't seen them
for a long time." I said, "Really, then what about the other centers?" He said, "It is the same everywhere." I asked
him for a list of all the youth who were registered in the center. He gave me the list and said they were all passive.
Nobody was active. I took that list and placed it in front of Swami's altar in my home. I said to Swami, "You need
to take care of this. I'm going to start cold calling.
The first call I made was to a boy who was in the middle of class at the University. He was reluctant to meet me,
but finally agreed. Over a cup of coffee, I introduced myself as an ex-student from Swamis College and asked him,
Do you believe in Sai Baba?" He said to me, "Um, kind of. Only during exams." I said, "Do you like music?" He
said, "Yeah," and I said, "If you like music, Swami will love you more. So I told him to bring his friends from the
University and the four of us really jammed and had a wonderful time. For a couple months, we met once a week.
Soon, 4 became 10, 10 became 15, and then it was time for Guru Poornima. I said, "Guru Poornima is coming. Do
you want to perform in the center?" They said to me, "Well, the center doesnt like us." I said, " How can you say
they don't like you? I will make sure they like you! Did you know that Sai Baba will be there?" "Oh really? Is He
flying from India?" I said, "Yeah, He will. Why wouldn't He?"
We took English songs from different albums. We had a jazz drummer, a keyboard player, someone playing an
African instrument, and a couple of singers. Then we went to the center and performed. Afterward, there was a
long silence. Finally, they said to me, "We could feel Sai Baba's presence in the center. We didn't see Him, but we
felt it." They smelled the scent of vibhuthi and jasmine. One boy said to me, "Sai Baba was here! Do you think He
would have heard our performance?" I said "Yeah, 100%!" He said, "Oh my God, I can't believe I performed in
front of God!"
This was exactly the feeling of this youth group in Australia. Swami was there. His love touched them, and 15 became 350 in a matter of 1 years. 350! This is Bhagawan's love! If I was there, telling them to come for practices,
perform, or participate in service projects, they would not have come at all.
23

In a matter of just 1 years, these young boys and girls wanted to learn the Vedas. I couldn't believe it! They
would come early in the morning at 7 o'clock, before they went off to work in the cold weather in Melbourne!
Only Swami could do this!
Swami wasn't there in Australia in the physical form that was His Subtle Form. Yet, He touched the youth,
spoke to them, encouraged them, and inspired them.
In 2006, Swami permitted all the youth to come to Puttaparthi. Even before they landed, Swami started asking
Me, "Where are they? When are they coming?" The moment Swami came out, He said, "Have they come? I would
like to talk to them."
He poured so much love on them, it's unbelievable. He made them sing in Prasanthi Nilayam. He made them sit
along with the University boys there, with the Sai students. He said, "I have no difference between the Sai students and the youth. Both are one!" Never in the history of Prasanthi Nilayam had this happened! Today, that
350 is more than 1,000, and it keeps growing
Recently, when Swami was in Australia in His Subtle Form, He asked me, "How many youth will come?" I said,
"Swami, 15 or 20." Swami smiled and said, "You're mad! You will have more than 300!"
Ultimately, more 500 wanted to come, but only 300 could be accommodated. They all came and wanted to experience once more, the same love they had experienced before and they got it. The third day, I asked some boys,
"How is it?" They said, "It's the same Swami again!" They could feel it right in their heart. Every word of Bhagawan,
spoken with love, pierced each and everyone's heart. It brought tears to everyones eyes.
In Prasanthi Nilayam, it was difficult to talk to Swami. We struggled even to give Him a letter. But now, Swami has
said, "I am accessible to everyone. Anyone can talk to Me now. Just tune into Me. Remove the mind and follow
the heart. It's as simple as that!
That's exactly what we don't do we always work with our mind and we don't follow the heart. Once we follow
the heart, it's very easy and it's a broadband connection! Audio and video, both will be available to us. It's just a
question of that connection!
I end with a prayer, "Swami, we all love You, and You love us. Let this relationship of love continue."

C. SREENIVAS
Much of the life we live and the world we live in has a great sameness
to it. Yet, no two parts of creation are the same. All of us as a whole
and each one of us individually are different. Why do I say this? Because, in the 45-50 years of my association with Swami, I must have
heard a million people saying so heartfully, their journeys with God,
their journeys with life. All the while, I have heard such uniquely individual, one-on-one, experiences with Swami.
I have always viewed Swami as a divine entrepreneur. I thought that if
there was one word that would have a lasting impact on me, that
would define my life, it was entrepreneurship, as defined by Swami.
In 1940, Swami wrote a historic letter to His brother where He said, I
have a task and the task is to give ananda to give joy, love, bliss,
24

hope, strength to every being. I have work to remove the suffering of

every being.
What an extraordinary thing for a 14-year-old to proclaim! What a lifedefining model for entrepreneurship! To go about that work, He had to
translate that magnificent vision real-time, into a working model. I have
noticed over the past 40-45 years, that the model was establishing connectivity. The most unique thing about Swami is the one-to-one connectedness He has had, does have and will have, with each and every
one of us. It is an amazing fundamental to entrepreneurship. How can
you first make the connection, hold the connection, further the connection, build on the connection, and establish the connectedness?

In 1940, Swami wrote a

historic letter to His brother
where He said, I have a task
and the task is to give ananda
to give joy, love, bliss, hope,
strength to every being. I
have work to remove the
suffering of every being.

That connectedness is a result of Swami making Himself relevant to you.

It could be Hurricane Katrina, a flood in Orissa, an epidemic in Africa, or a problem in your home. It could be any of
a million problems to a million different people. He was relevant. He made His mark there. He was one with your
suffering.
He sent me to the most backward part of the country. To me, these were the beginning of the best times of my
life. Because the model of entrepreneur that He started was that a problem is but an opportunity you have. A
deeper problem is a more beautiful opportunity. And the worst of problems is the best opportunity you ever
could have gotten. So Swami sent me to Chhattisgarh, which is the hot-bed of Naxalism, a socio-political benefit
movement. It happens to be in the most backward part of India. Here, using the same model of connectedness,
we run a child heart hospital. It's incidentally, the only childrens hospital in India providing pediatric cardiac services. We do five pediatric cardiac surgeries every day. We see 50 children from every part of the subcontinent in
Asia, and also from central Africa.
One afternoon, I get a message that the heart-lung machine has
malfunctioned. Children are lined up. We have the largest waiting
list of children needing heart surgery in the country. The next
morning, five children are posted for surgery. We called up the
closest hospitals. The largest corporate hospital gave us a number.
We called the number. He understood what we said and put the
phone down. There was no sign whatsoever of a heart-lung machine, which costs about $300,000. You don't get them off the
shelf! They're all made-to-order, and certainly you won't get one in
Chhattisgarh!
The next morning at 8 AM, a vehicle pulls up. Somebody asks for
Dr. Chakravati. So he goes and says, "I've been asked to deliver this
to you." "What is it?" "I don't know." "Do I sign something?"
"Nothing to sign." It was a heart-lung machine!
Swamis statement rings true for every child or being, I have come to give ananda to everybody. So it was in the
destiny of that child to be touched by God. That is the spiritual lesson. The entrepreneur's lesson was: Be relevant in Chhattisgarh, the most backward part of the country. When you come into free-of-cost, genuine, selfless,
and high-quality work, you become relevant. The man called up who sent the vehicle and said, "Sir, I considered it
my duty to send this piece of equipment to you, even at the cost of deferring my kids in my hospital."
Recently, a youngster came to me from Puttaparthi. He is Managing Director of a medical products company. He
showed me some brochures about infant warmers and related ICU equipment. I had a look at it and sent him to
25

the people who deal with this. A week later, an envelope came containing an amount that we had paid for about
5 or 6 baby warmers, and a whole lot of other things. A small note was attached in which the gentleman said, "Sir,
as an ex-student of Swamis, I am ashamed to have charged you for equipment that I did not know was supplied to
you. Please accept it as a donation."
The moment we make ourselves relevant, the moment this connection gets established, Swami is working through
you. In the Bible, Lord Jesus said, "I placed in you My trust. Honor Me with your faith."

NARASIMHA MURTHY
I see before me the words, "We Care," which are very
soothing in the world of today when nobody cares for anybody. In a country where national slogan, "In God we
trust," is proudly declared, these two words are a natural
follow up to that statement. They remind me of what Dr.
Stephen Ruppenthal, a great American spiritual thinker
said 7 years ago, "India stands for hope in a world full of
violence and despair. The spiritual side of India will bring
forth the human figure who will lead mankind back into
love, back into peace, back into mutual caring and sharing. That is how they are going to save this planet." That
Divine figure is Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, who came
into this world in His physical body, to bring to all mankind
the wonderful panacea of selfless love and selfless service.
On the 24th of April, 2011, Swami shed His physical body,
and is now continuing to strive for the same mission of
bringing hope, love, peace and non-violence into the
hearts of all men and women. We say that He is in His Subtle Body, centering his mission in the Subtle Body. The
first time I heard the words Subtle Body, the Sookshma Shareera, was almost 15 years ago from Swami, Himself.
That was when He revealed to me this mystery of His personality.

Swami was in Brindavan. He went to Kodaikanal for the summer spiritual retreat with His students, a few teachers, and a few devotees on the 11th of May and returned on the 28th of May. He started preparations for the
original trip almost a month earlier. He would tell me to note down the names of certain students and teachers to
accompany Him on the divine journey. I would very religiously take out a small notebook from my pocket and note
the names down.
On the 8th of May, Swami asked me, "Where is the list of people going to Kodaikanal?" I had made a consolidated
list and gave it to Him. He went through the list and said, "Narasimha Murthy, you have left out two names." My
immediate reaction was, "No Swami, I have written all the names You told me." Swami asked, "Where is My
name?" I should have confessed, "Swami, pardon me, I didn't write your name," but instead I said, "Swami, at the
top of the paper I have written 'Om Sri Sai Ram.'" Swami said, "Even primary school children write Om Sri Sai Ram
on the top of their papers. You should write Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba because we have to send this list to
the airline authorities for getting the boarding passes." In those days, Swami flew from the old Bangalore Airport
to Madurai, and from there He traveled by road. Then I said, "Swami, forgive me, I will write it now." "You have
left out another name." "Swami, surely no," I said. "Where is your name?" "Swami, you didn't tell me, so I didn't
write." Swami joked, "Oh, you being here, I should break a coconut and do Arathi and tell you that you have to
come to Kodaikanal?"
26

See, I have four bodies. I have

the Sthoola Shareera, this
Physical Body, which is like
your body, created from the five
elements. I have the Sookshma
Shareera, or the Subtle Body,
which can go to any part of the
universe without taking a
moment's time. I have the Athi
Sookshma Shareera, the Higher
Subtle Body, by which I appear
in the dreams of My devotees
and guide them. I also appear in
the meditations of My devotees
and guide them. That is the Athi
Sookshma Shareera. In My Para
Sookshma Shareera, the Super
Subtle Body, I pervade every
atom in the universe."

I said, "Swami, if you don't get Your boarding pass and board the
plane, the whole plane will be empty." Swami became serious and
said, "If I am not there, not only the plane the entire universe will be
empty."
Then He said, "See, I have four bodies. I have the Sthoola Shareera,
this Physical Body, which is like your body, created from the five elements. I have the Sookshma Shareera, or the Subtle Body, which can
go to any part of the universe without taking a moment's time. I have
the Athi Sookshma Shareera, the Higher Subtle Body, by which I appear in the dreams of My devotees and guide them. I also appear in
the meditations of My devotees and guide them. That is the Athi
Sookshma Shareera. In My Para Sookshma Shareera, the Super Subtle
Body, I pervade every atom in the universe."

That Subtle Body has come here. It does not take a moment to reach
here. But He came here in a car, driven by Dr. David Cornsweet. That
is the drama. We came all the way from India, with our passports,
visa, and plane tickets, toward Seattle, San Francisco and now here,
but Swami did not take a moment to reach here! That's what He normally tells us when we take His leave. Before flying out, Baba says,
"You need a passport, a visa, and a ticket. I don't need any of those.
You go by flight. I will come by skylight!" One who comes across the
oceans by skylight, comes in a car driven from the Inn at Rancho Santa
Fe! All this is a drama. One thing for sure He is here. How He comes
is His choice. Often, Swami has told us, My being in the physical body for 85 years was a drama. My being in the
Subtle Body now is a drama. Dont be fooled by that. The truth is that I reside in every heart that beats. If you
want to know Me, dont look for Me outside.
There is a temple in Chidambaram in Tamil Nadu. You go into the temple with all the paraphernalia and there is
nothing to worship. They worship the Subtle Body, which is not seen. We go to Mecca and Medina. What is worshipped there? Is there an idol or a form? We worship the Subtle Body of God. Swami says, If you want to reach
Me, follow Me. God does not need mans proof or defense for His existence, we need Him. But He wants our
compliance to His teachings. This is what the Lord said when He walked on this Earth 2000 years ago as Jesus
Christ, If you abide in My words, truly you are My disciples. You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you
free.
St. Francis of Assisi said, The teachings do
not belong to the one who speaks or the one
who listens. The teachings belong to the one
who practices. That is what Swami has been
insisting all the time. There is no way that we
can ever understand with our puny minds the
mystery of His Avatarhood.

About 40 years ago, there was a very interesting dialogue with a great man of wisdom
of India. His name was Nisargadatta Maharaj, and he lived in Mumbai. There was a young man who was a devotee
of Bhagawan Sri Sathya Baba and a disciple of Nisargadatta Maharaj. One day, near the end of Maharajs physical
sojourn, this boy had the good fortune of serving his Master by massaging his feet. There was no one else there
27

only the Master and the disciple. The disciple, out of curiosity, asked the Master about something which had been
bothering him for a very long time, Master, will you please tell me who Sri Sathya Sai Baba is? The Master asked
him, What did Sri Sathya Sai Baba say He was? The boy said, Master, Sathya Sai Baba said that He is Shirdi Sai
Baba come again. The Master asked, When did Shirdi Sai give up His body? Master, 1918. When did Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba appear in His present body? 1926. Then, Nisargadatta said, Sathya Sai Baba is what
He was in those eight years between 1918 and 1926. The boy was confused. He said, Master, I cannot understand anything. Then, Maharaj said, Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba is Paripoorna Parabrahma (the Absolute Supreme Being). The boy was very happy. Then the Master said, What did you understand now? You did not understand anything then and you do not understand anything now. Then he made a statement that is very relevant to us. Idle curiosity and vain talk are useless on the path of spirituality. First, know who you are, then you
will know who Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba is. That is what he told him. This is what Bhagawan Himself declared
when he was Sri Krishna. Neither the angels nor sages know My origin, because I am the origin of all the angels
and all the sages. That mystery, which expresses itself as love and compassion, is here with us. On behalf of all of
us, my humble prayer is, Swami, grant us that faith and trust, in the country whose national slogan is, In God we
Trust.

I am neither the mind, intellect, subconscious mind, ego, senses of perception, senses of action, nor the five elements of earth, water, fire, air
and space. I am the embodiment of the bliss and consciousness.
Embodiments of Divine Love, devotees, boys and girls. From time immemorial, men and women have tried to understand the mystery and truth
of God. Many great men made several investigations to know whether
God is in the gross form, the subtle form, or the formless.
They propagated many religions that contradict one another. While
some religions said God has a form, others said He does not have a form.
They started fighting with each other, hating one another, and subjected
themselves to great sorrow and misery. But none could ever comprehend the true nature of God. It can't be seen with the eyes. It can't be
listened to with the ears, but only through the heart. The Veda has said
words
cannot describe God and the mind cannot comprehend God.
It is like the effort of four blind men. Four blind
men wanted to know the shape and form of an
elephant. One of them touched its belly and said,
"The elephant is like a wall." Another touched its
legs and said, "The elephant is like a pillar." The
third blind man said, "Both of you are wrong,"
because he touched the tail and said, "The elephant is like a rope." The fourth blind man
touched its ears and said, "The elephant is like a
fan." But the true elephant is none of these. Only those who have the power of vision can see the
elephant. If you want to know God, it is like the attempt of the blind men to know the elephant. The heart is the
28

It is not possible for man to

understand God through the
mind. Whether the Avatar is
in the Physical Body or in the
Subtle Body, you can never
understand with the mind.
The relationship which you
have to develop with God is a
heart-to-heart relationship. It
is not a physical relationship.
Because of the devotion of
devotees, God who is formless
comes down with a form. It
depends on the devotion of the

eye of wisdom in every person. It is not the physical eye. Through the
physical eye, you can see only physical things. How can you see that
which is beyond the gross with the eyes, which are themselves gross?
That is why the Veda has said, "The five senses are under the control of
the mind." It is not possible for man to understand God through the
mind. Whether the Avatar is in the Physical Body or in the Subtle Body,
you can never understand with the mind. The relationship which you
have to develop with God is a heart-to-heart relationship. It is not a
physical relationship. Because of the devotion of devotees, God who is
formless comes down with a form. It depends on the devotion of the
devotees and not on God. Pray to God as Ganapati He will manifest
as Ganapati for you. If you think God must be in the form of Rama, He
will manifest as Rama. If you adore Him as Krishna, he will manifest as
Krishna. It depends on your devotion, not on God. The true form of
God is the formless. It is not the form which you can understand
through the mind. You can only understand through love in the heart.

Just as you can see the sun only through the light of the sun, you can
see God through the love in your heart. Love is what is most important.
What kind of love? All kinds of love exist in the world. True love is love
for God. All the rest are only attachments you can't call them love.
Because of these attachments, you develop likes and dislikes. You also develop evil. Love has no form or attributes. True love is selfless, attributeless, and formless. Love of parents is definitely love, but it is also attachment.
Even friendship is kind of an attachment; it is not true love.
Only when this attachment becomes absolutely selfless does it get transformed into love. Only when we attain
such love can we understand the nature of God. There is no reason, no season, no birth, no death only that kind
of love. I said, "Love is My form. Truth is My breath. Bliss is My food." My nature is the nature of love. If you
want to understand God, who is nothing but love, you need to fill your heart with selfless love. All kinds of emotions emerge from the mind, not from the heart.
Prahlada was a great devotee. He was a very young boy, but he was very, very elderly in his devotion. His father
was Hiranyakashipu. Hiranyakashipu was always full of ego and attachment. He went on propagating, "There is
no God. I am God. There is none other. There is nobody by the name Narayana. I am Narayana." But the child
Prahlada developed great love for Narayana. He went on chanting the name of Narayana. Hiranyakashipu asked
Prahlada, Where is Narayana? He said, "Narayana is everywhere." Hiranyakashipu asked him whether God as

29

Narayana was there in a pillar. Prahlada replied, He is definitely there in the pillar. With great anger, Hiranyakashipu thrashed the pillar.
From the broken pillar emerged Lord Narasimha. And with what kind of form did He come? The head of a lion
and the body of a man! He caught hold of Hiranyakashipu, took
him on His lap, and plunged His sharp nails into his stomach, killing
him. Where did He kill him? He did not kill him outside or inside
the house. He was sitting on the threshold of the house when He
What is the meaning of the same killed him. When did He kill him? It was neither day nor night. It
God incarnating as a human being? was in between that He did it. If we ask the question, "Why did
With love and affection for Lord Narayana manifest as Narasimha, with the head of a lion and
mankind, God comes down to earth body of a human?" There is an answer for that. Narasimha is one
with illusion consciousness and who is having both man and lion in Him.

Divine consciousness juxtaposed

together.

It was because Hiranyakashipu had a boon granted to him that he

could not be killed by man or beast, by God, or an angel. The boon
also stated that he could not be killed either in the day or at night,
neither inside nor outside the house, nor with any kind of weapons. In order to kill that demon who was full of evil, God came in
that form. However, Prahlada was never afraid. He did not depend on the physical body of Lord Narasimha. He
comprehended only the love of Lord Narasimha and He came in the form of love. When the love in the heart of
Prahlada and the love in the heart of the Lord Narayana joined together, He manifested as love itself.
God has no form. Depending on the devotion of the devotees,
He comes down with a form into the world. Sai Baba also came
down in a form for the sake of devotees. What is the meaning
of the same God incarnating as a human being? With love and
affection for mankind, God comes down to earth with illusion
consciousness and Divine consciousness juxtaposed together.
God incarnates and manifests Himself in many forms, depending on the devotion of the devotees. He corrects the wicked
and protects the good. If you want to understand the nature of
such a God, you have to first give up attempts to develop the
mind and, instead, develop the heart. Your attachment arises
from the mind. Hiranyakashipu could not find God. The young
boy, Prahlada, out of great love, prayed to God. God manifested for his sake.
If you want to understand the nature of God, first and foremost,
you have to practice the Dharma of the Heart. Divinity is there
in the heart; it is not outside. You have to look for God in the
place where He exists, not where He is not. God is not there in
Prasanthi Nilayam, or Muddenahalli, in Italy or America, or Canada in a form. He is there in your heart, and that is where you
have to look for Him. There is no use looking for God outside
yourself. He is there inside you; find Him there, inside.

If you want to understand the

nature of God, first and foremost,
you have to practice the Dharma
of the Heart. Divinity is there in
the heart; it is not outside. You
have to look for God in the place
where He exists, not where He is
not. God is not there in Prasanthi
Nilayam, or Muddenahalli, in
Italy or America, or Canada in a
form. He is there in your heart,
and that is where you have to
look for Him. There is no use
looking for God outside yourself.
He is there inside you; find Him
there, inside.

Once, Brahma, Vishnu, and Maheshwara had a discussion. The

subject of their discussion was, after creating the entire world
and man, Where should we hide Divinity? In the word God, G represents Generator, O Organizer, and
30

D Destroyer the three aspects of creation, sustenance and destruction. The three aspects represent Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwara.
Brahma said, "Let us hide Divinity on the moon; that is
where man cannot reach." Vishnu said, "You might have
created man, but you are not able to comprehend the
power of his intelligence." Vishnu said, "Using this power
of intelligence, he can even reach the moon. So, there is
no point hiding Divinity on the moon." Then Maheshwara
said, "Let us hide it in the depths of the ocean where man
will unable to reach." Vishnu said, "Man can fly as a bird
in the sky. He can also swim like a fish in water, but to
find his own Divinity hes incapable of doing it! There is
no point hiding Divinity in the bowels of the ocean, because man will reach there also." As the discussions continued, Vishnu said, "Let us hide Divinity inside man. He
will never reach there." That is how the Lord hid Divinity
within the heart of man.
If you want to know Divinity, there is no use searching for Him in the outside world. Sai Baba is within you, not
outside. What is inside, search inside. Sai means, See Always Inside. Only then can you know God. Look inside,
only then will you see. You will find Baba B, bliss, A, awareness; B, being, and A, Atma. That is the embodiment of Atma. B-A-B-A, Baba, means Bliss, Awareness, Being, Atma. This Sanskrit shloka also describes Him as the
very embodiment of Sat, Chit, Ananda. Shivoham, Shivoham. He Himself said, "I am the embodiment of Sat-ChitAnanda." You have to understand that Sai Baba is none other than Being, Awareness, Bliss, Atma. If you control
your body and senses, turn you mind inward and look inside, you can find Sai Baba within yourself.
Puttaparthi was like a primary school. In primary school, there
was a primary school syllabus. What was that syllabus? The syllabus was, "God is here. God is here." When people from all over
the world came to Prasanthi Nilayam, many of them asked the
question, Does God exist? I taught them the lesson, "God exists."

If you ask the question, "How does God look?" I also demonstrated that God is the form of selfless love. You have understood
that. Now we have come to high school, where we have to study
the high school syllabus. What is that syllabus? God exists not
outside, but inside. When you study this properly, next you go to
the university. In the university, what are you going to learn? You
are going to learn, I am God.

This is My message to you.

I have not gone anywhere.
I am always here. I am
inside you as love.
Develop love, demonstrate
love through service, and
then look for Me. I will
manifest for you.

God exists. That was primary school. God is not outside; God
is inside. This is high school. The third is the university where
you realize, I am God. God is me. I have come here with the purpose of teaching you this lesson. I am teaching
you these high school lessons. You need not go anywhere. You have to realize that God is within you. See all this
inside. Develop true love in your heart. Having love in the heart is not enough the head should have thoughts of
love and hands also should be involved with actions of love. Through the hands, do service, and in the mind, have
sacred thoughts. In the heart, have selfless love. When all the three head, heart, and hands get together, God
will manifest for you. This is My message to you. I have not gone anywhere. I am always here. I am inside you as
love. Develop love, demonstrate love through service, and then look for Me. I will manifest for you.

Question: I have almost completed writing a book called The

Spiritual History of Planet Earth. I now seek Your permission to
also write about Sookshma Baba in the book. May I do this, Lord?
Swami: When you write about the planet, there might be a
need for a book. To write about Me, there is no need for a book.
Your life itself should become My book. The way you lead your
life here onwards will speak volumes about Me and My existence. It will be the proof of My presence in your life. I dont
want any book. I want you to lead a life, and through your actions, words, and thoughts, you must bring forth My message of
love and service for humanity. Once you have lived a life like this
really demonstrated My love in your life once your life itself
has become My book, then maybe I will permit you to write a
book, too, so that long after we all are gone, the book still remains for others to seek guidance from.

Question: Swami, I love you so much. How long has this yearning to be before I merge in you?
Swami: Where are you going to merge in Me? This is here, this is now. What makes you not meet Me is only a
little bit of that wall called mind between us both. What is mind? Mind is nothing but a bundle of thoughts.
Each thought is like a brick. All the bricks together make a wall. The problem is not that people love Me or want
Me. The problem is that we love so many other things and want so many other things as well. Each of the things
we like or want is like a brick in the wall. Unless all the bricks are
removed, you and I cannot meet and merge. Love only Me. Want
only Me. Then you dont have to break this wall. I Myself will break
it down, and I will merge in you. You dont have to merge in Me.

Question: Swami always answers the prayers of earnest devotees.

In 2011, when Swami was in the hospital, a lot of prayers were
made. The amount of prayers made was beyond anything that ever
happened in the history of the world. What happened to these prayers? Is this manifestation (of the Subtle Form) an answer to those
prayers? Is there a mystery that Swami can shed light on as to
where all of this energy went that was directed in prayers for Swamis healing?
Swami: Focus your love and affection for Swami. You all prayed
for the well-being of Swami. What is Swami? Is Swami the body?
For who? So what were you praying for, the well-being of the body?
Or the well-being of Swami? If youre praying for Swami, Swami is
very well now. He doesnt have to carry the burden of the body. The
result of all your prayers, first and foremost, was your own purification. As you prayed, the first beneficiary of the prayer was you, because it purified you of all your other desires. People said, Swami
32

take my life, take the years left in my life, and You continue. I replied, I dont want to ask for anything. You just
take care of yourself. People did not ask for their own personal gains or desires. They only thought about Me,
and they only wanted Me. You are the first beneficiary of you own prayers. The second is this world, because
long after I left My body, I am still around. I still decide to be with My devotees and guide and protect them.
Therefore, none of your prayers have gone unanswered.

All the energy of your prayers

sustains Me and allows Me the do My
work now the way Im doing. I know
that My devotees have prayed for My
well-being and I am very happy. I am
very well now.

The body had to go; it was an old, broken car. In America, people
replace cars every six months! Cant I replace once in 85 years?
Now it is much more comfortable. I can do so much more work,
much faster. The physical body slowed everything down. Now,
things are much faster. I have no restrictions of day, time, circumstances or place. I go everywhere, I give darshan to devotees all
around the world. Earlier, I could not have left Prasanthi Nilayam
and be here with you this way. There would be devotees in
Prasanthi Nilayam waiting to see Me. I could not have disappointed them, for they would have saved up all that they had just to
come to Prasanthi Nilayam and see Me. If I was not there, it
would not be right on My part to disappoint My devotees. So, I
could not have left that place even for a moment. But now, with
this body, I may leave there. I can go anywhere in no time.

All of us have these bodies. The Physical Body is the outermost cover. Then there is this Subtle Body, which consists of manas (mind), buddhi (intellect) and chitta (memory). These three constitute the Subtle Body, and then
there is the Atma, which is further beyond. Therefore, I am very happy. None of your prayers have gone unanswered. It is only your prayers that now give Me energy. I already said, Your bliss is my food. In this body, I cannot eat physical food. All the energy of your prayers sustains Me and allows Me the do My work now the way Im
doing. I know that My devotees have prayed for My well-being and I am very happy. I am very well now.

Question: Is there a specific purpose in the split between Muddenahalli and Prasanthi Nilayam?
Swami: For the one who is drunk, one thing appears as two. For the one who is not, everything appears as one.
I see no difference. Those who see differences are intoxicated. Therefore, for Me, everything is one. To help humanity, to bring joy and love, is more
important to Me. As Sreenivas said, I
have come for a mission, and the mission is to give more and more joy to
people; to give those who dont have,
what they lack. I have to give that to
them. I have to connect people and
bring them on this path of dharma. I
must continue this mission.
Where would a mother who has many
sons go and stay? She would go and
stay with the son who will do her work
faster. That is all that I am doing right
now. However, all are My sons, and so
for a mother who has given birth to all
of them, there is no difference. The children may think the mother loves somebody more and somebody less, but
they dont know that she has taken the same pain to give birth to each one of them. Therefore, for Me, there is
no difference. The day our hearts broaden and are filled only with love, we will see the oneness. Till then, what is
33

one will appear as two, to those that are intoxicated with this ignorance.
Question: Swami, would you like to visit us in
Chihuahua, Mexico?
Swami: Next year. I am very happy to come to
Mexico. You must take Narasimha Murthys
permission, too!

Question: (Asked by a young boy) Swami, who

made Nature?
Swami: Who made you? Your mother made
you. Likewise, for nature, God is the mother.
God created Nature, Nature has created man, and man has to go back to God. Then the cycle is complete.
Question: Swami, Im into the filmmaking business. I believe in love. I want to practice love. Through the media,
through filmmaking, I want to give the world a story that can perhaps bring the world together. I need Your blessings.
Swami: Yes, My blessings are there! You can definitely make a movie collecting stories from all around the
world and tell the story of love and sacrifice. This morning, I was happy to hear from Cornsweet the story of how a boy had, out of anger
and ignorance, hurt a lot of children. The childrens family forgave
him, thinking he was acting out of ignorance. They prayed for the wellWhen you pray for all, youre

but if we pray for everyone, it

Pray for love.

Swami: My blessings are there with you. Dont pray only for yourself.
Pray for the entire world, and you will also be healed. Samastha
Lokah Sukhino Bhavanthu. Pray for all the people in the world who are
suffering; let all of them be happy. Let all be endowed with evenness, let all be happy; nobody should have any
sorrow. Pray like this. When you pray for all, youre also a part of that all, so that prayer will reach you, too. The
secret of prayer is: When we pray for ourselves, it is selfish; but if we pray for everyone, it becomes selfless. That
selfless prayer is what God listens to. Pray for love.
Question: Swami, we love you, thank you for being with us. Will you always stay with us and protect us?
Swami: You wanted to tell Me thank you? In thank you, there is I and there is you. But between Me and
you, we are both same. So, theres no question of you thanking Me! Dont distance yourself from Me by thanking
Me. Just be grateful.
Question: Swami, in my hometown, Porter Ranch, there are so many devotees who were not able to come here
today. So with them, I would like to have the glorious honor to have You in my humble home, or should I say,
34

Your home; because You always live there with us.

Swami: It is not your home; it is not My home it
is our home. When the time is right, I will definitely
come this way. Even otherwise, I am always there.
There are so many signs of Swamis presence in
your home. You know it. When the time is right, I
will definitely come.
Question: Swami, there are a lot of emails being
sent from Puttaparthi. Although the devotees love
you, yet they are saying many hurtful things. Could
you make them feel Your love so that this confusion
will be over?
Swami: When you are walking in the dark, you will take a rope for a snake, and you will get afraid, thinking that
it is going to bite you. However, when you put on a flashlight and see it in the light, you will know that it was only
a rope and not a snake its not going to hurt you. Out of ignorance, people are afraid that they might be hurt.
However, if they light a little lamp of love and see the truth in the light of love, they will know that nobody is
hurting anybody. You can only pray for all, saying that everybody should get a good, pure mind, and a heart full of
love; so that with this pure mind, they should be able to see things in the correct perspective. The day will come
when everybody will become one.
I have said, nearness to Me does not always mean dearness to Me. Even today, we all worship Lord Krishna as
Radha-Krishna. Radha was not the wife of Krishna; she was just a devotee. Yet, today we still remember Radha
and Meera with Krishnas name, and not the names of His wives. Dearness is more important than nearness.
Who is dear to Me? The one who follows Me, who follows My teaching, who practices and lives by My teachings he or she alone is dear to
Me. Dearness is what one must strive for. Because of all of the good
deeds done in the past, people attain My proximity. However, it is not

she alone is dear to Me.

Dearness is what one must
strive for. Because of all of the
good deeds done in the past,
people attain My proximity.
However, it is not enough to
just reach there somehow, you
must stay there, too. Therefore,
everyone must continuously
engage in selfless actions. That
alone is the way you can
deserve Me constantly. Where
there is selfless love and
selfless service, I will manifest.

Pray for everyone that all of them should develop this love inside. In the
light of that love, they should see the truth as it is, and not take it mistakenly and be afraid. The day will come when all will be united. However, My work is more important to Me. Wherever My work can go on,
I have to be there. A manager has to travel from one office to the other
to do his work. If he always sits at the head office, the branch offices
may not function properly. So, he has to station himself where the
work is going on. That is all it is. It does not mean that I have distanced
anybody, or have left anything. When they say that I am omnipresent,
how can they say that I am only here and not there? These are two
contrary statements. I am everywhere. Wherever there is love, wherever there is service, I will make Myself more available. That is all it is.
Question: Swami, how can we maintain equanimity through head,
heart and hand? Also, how do we sustain that in the various ups and
downs of life?
35

Swami: If you think you are doing things, you can never maintain it. You will always be worried. If, however,
you think Swami is the one who is doing, there wont be any worry.
For a moment, think about it. You are all sitting here, and you all have
been breathing, but you did not put in any effort to breathe. It is happening on its own. Your hearts are beating constantly without any rest
since birth. Who is making your heart beat? Whatever you eat gets
digested and becomes energy and sustains your body through which
you are able to work. Who is allowing all this to happen? For a moment if you ponder this truth, you will give up the sense of doer-ship.
The moment you lose the sense of doer-ship, everything will be at
peace. If something good happens, you will be grateful to God, that He
is blessing you. If something that happens which is not so favorable,
you will also thank God. As Sreenivas said, It is only an opportunity to
do something better. Therefore, a person who is totally surrendered
to God will find everything as a blessing from God.
Then there is no question of managing heart, head, and hand, as all this
will be managed by God Himself. If you are driving the car, you have to
worry about the traffic, the opposite traffic, the cars, the potholes, and
everything else. If you hand over the steering to the Lord, and sit by
His side as a passenger, the journey will become so pleasant. If something goes wrong, you know it is God who is doing it. If something goes
right, even then you know that it is God who is doing it. Neither will
you swell up with pride, or get into depression. You will always maintain this. Your head, heart, hand, everything
belongs to God. Let Him use it the way He wants. You dont interfere. Then everything will be fine.
Its only that we do things, and we want to have a sense of achievement, we want to
be praised by
others, we want name and fame that is when we are not able to
completely surrender. The mind bereft of all kinds of desires alone

Question: Swami I thank you from the bottom of my heart for
these years, having a husband whos had a stroke, who used to play
bhajans and sing in temples, and seemed to give his entire heart to
you. Since that time, You have wonderfully taken away the pain and
worry about him, and have placed the bliss of knowing that You are
in total change. Will there be a time when he can sing and play for
You again?

Swami: Singing is not only to sing songs from the lips. They are poor
reflections of your inner love. Singing in the silence of your own
heart is the song that I love most. Wherever you are, you can continue to sing My glory. You can continue to sing within your heart.
Since I reside in the heart, I do listen. If the time is right, I will do
whatever is right for your husband, just as I have done for you. It is not that hes not been singing for Me, and in
reciprocation of that, I started looking after you. I was always looking after you, ever since you were a child. But
you only got to know recently. Continue singing in your heart, and that song of the heart will be dearest to Me.

Question: Swami, will You come back in your physical form so people can see You? What state will you be born
in?

Prema Sai is not going to speak

in so many words like Me. Hes
a very strict teacher. Unless
you do your homework, you
will understand nothing in His
class.
He speaks in the
language of silence. If you cant
understand the words that Ive
spoken,
how
will
you
understand the silence? You
will not be able to bear the
power of His silence, if you
cannot understand My words
now, and put them into
practice. So live in the present
and do what is needed today. If
you do your things right today,
you will automatically be
promoted to the next class, and
you will be there when the time
is right.

Swami: I am lecturing on Mathematics and you are thinking of English! When that time comes, that class starts, I will tell you more
about it. But why are you doing this? Not that from one physical
body, you go and make attachment to another physical body. I want
you to find Me within, see Me within, feel me within, and hear me
within. This whole exercise is for that. Dont be in such a hurry to go
back and attach yourself to another physical body. However, since
you have asked, let Me tell you one thing. Prema Sai is not going to
speak in so many words like Me. Hes a very strict teacher. Unless you
do your homework, you will understand nothing in His class. He
speaks in the language of silence. If you cant understand the words
that Ive spoken, how will you understand the silence? You will not be
able to bear the power of His silence, if you cannot understand My
words now, and put them into practice. So live in the present and do

Question: Swami, I ask this question on behalf of many people in

America, and Im sure around the world. Its very challenging doing
our work for many of us in the health field in America. I have a naturopath friend in jail right now, and I have a homeopathic friend who
lives in a lot of fear. I know our challenge is to live with a lot of faith,
but we dont have the freedom we used to have here in America. We
need a lot of changes in America in so many ways, with our food supply and water supply. We have technologies to change everything, but
many of my science and technology friends cant even put them in place right now, because of the government.
We are wondering how long it will take until we can get the true technologies in position. Some of my friends
have been going to other countries where theyre accepted to do their work. When will America finally be able to
accept and turn around?
Swami: America is already changing from what is was. However, it is the greed and selfishness that makes it do
things like those you mentioned. It is not that something is right or something is wrong. However, everything is
driven by commerce, and profit becomes the motivating force. Anybody who comes in between companies and
their profits are not allowed to function. That is all it is. You will soon find a place where you can do your work.
As long as you do your work sincerely, I will help. As soon as America is ready, you can always come back and do
your work in America, too. Today, distance is not a matter of concern. You can do a lot of work. Tomorrow, we
are going to have a conference and they will discuss how you can be here, and yet you can do a lot of work elsewhere. You can always be here, and still do things for people in other countries where they are willing to accept.
Until America is awake, you can operate like this.
Questioner: I have been in healthcare for 40 years and I understand completely what is being said. With the
background I have, Bhagawan, You have guided me and my husband some years ago to work with You and people.
You gave my husband Your first dream, and it was with Easwarammas name in it, and it was about economics.
We sat and meditated, and what came in two days time was that You were asking us to help bring about Sai Sacred Loving Economics. In the past 15 years of sessions, the guidance weve had to work in the world of economics has taken us some places that are the roots of whats happening in health, agriculture, the mortgage world,
37

science, and education. There is so much diversion away from the good, that our own livelihood has been affected. Things have constantly been taken away. Things that should have taken place with our prayers, and our giving
it to You, have constantly been stymied. We have stayed the course with You and masters of many cultures. So, I
am asking for clarity and comprehension as to what our real work is at this time.
Swami: Your real work is what you have just described, but because this is the dark age of Kali Yuga, and it is at
its peak right now, things are getting hindered for you. Soon this darkness will make way for the bright dawn and
things will change. Wait with patience and youll definitely be able to
continue doing this work much more effectively. Constantly remind
yourself that you are doing it not for anyone, not for yourself; you are

tience, if you wait, things will definitely sort out very, very soon.
Question: Swami, You emphasize the heart and love. Many people
have difficulty making the journey from the mind to the heart. What is
your advice on going from the mind to the heart?

You take one step, I will take a

hundred steps! Its very easy,
just replace your lower
thoughts with higher thoughts,
and dont let the body blindly
follow the mind. If you can take
care of these two things, you
can get rid of the mind very
soon. You can listen only to
your heart and be happy.

Swami: For one who thinks it is difficult, it is difficult. For one who
thinks it is easy, it is easy. Many bad teachers make the subject more
complicated and difficult than what it is. Just because not many have
learned the subject, it does not mean that it is tough. It only means
that they did not have the right guidance, and did not put in enough
effort. You make an effort and you will definitely attain results. The
mind is just a bundle of desires. Can we get rid of all the desires? Very
difficult. But what can we do? We can replace a lower desire with a
higher desire. You can replace your very selfish physical desires with more selfless, intellectual desires. From intellectual, progress to emotional desires. Become better and better and you will get closer to your heart. Every
step you take towards the East, makes you go further away from the West. Similarly, every step you take to move
away from the mind will take you closer to the heart. You take one step, I will take a hundred steps! Its very
easy, just replace your lower thoughts with higher thoughts, and dont let the body blindly follow the mind. If you
can take care of these two things, you can get rid of the mind very soon. You can listen only to your heart and be
happy.

Question: Swami, Earth is hurting in many ways. Here in California, there is a drought that is affecting the community, the
people, the plants, nature, animals on all levels. Youve said
that there is an intimate connection between Nature and
mans thoughts, feelings and actions. What then, can we do?
Please give us something that we can do to help reverse this
cycle. Not only here, but everywhere we live and where we
see such imbalances. Is there something we can do to help
bring Nature back into balance and harmony again?
Swami: When your inner nature changes, the outer nature
will also change. If you reduce your wants and use less only as much as you need then nature will always provide enough for that. It is only when we use more than what we need, that we hurt Nature. Nature is selfless, it
keeps giving and giving without any expectation. However, when we become too selfish, we cannot live with Nature in harmony. Whatever you need, you may use from Nature, there is plenty for you, but the greed has to be
reduced. Start with yourself, your circle of friends, your circle of acquaintances, and slowly it will spread to many,
many people. There are thousands right now thinking about it, and the moment they first put it into practice, it
38

will spread to friends, family, and relatives, and it will grow from
there. You begin, and slowly more will join, and this revolution will
happen everywhere, all around the world. Now, man has understood that he has crossed the limit, and is hurting Nature beyond
repair. Therefore, Nature is also reacting to mans own actions. It
is only reflection, reaction and resound. People are becoming
careful now. You begin with yourself, your family, and your
friends, and it will spread to everyone.
Question: Swami, my son is not well. Please heal him. I want him
to be able to serve You in Your work.
Swami: If you completely, from your inner being, think that hes
only Swamis child, and he must only live and work for Swami, he
will definitely be cured. But if you think hes your son, and you
have any right over him, then only you have to look after him. If
you feel he is Swamis property, then Swami will bother about it. If
you think it is yours, then you have to bother about it.
Question: Swami, we are concerned about the suffering of the
world. Will You remove it completely?

When all the minds become pure,

all the suffering will end.
Selflessness is the way. The more
purity you develop, the less you
will suffer. That is what I am
trying to do. As devotees, I am
giving you this responsibility. I do
not have a body of My own now,
but I will use each one of you. The
purest of you will be My
instruments, and through you, I
will remove the suffering of the
world. Let people become more
selfless. Let them become more
loving. That alone can put an end
to the suffering.

Swami: Suffering of the world is in the mind, not in the body.

effort to reduce your desires, reduce
your wants, remove all that is selfish
in you, remove your mind, and listen
to the voice of the heart. Then I will
answer everything from within; you
wont have to ask anyone.

Why we have come here this month? Because I wanted to come

and answer questions like this. But also to tell you that you can
all find these answers within you. Shut your mind, put an end to
the ceaseless, wavering mind. Reduce your desires. Remove all
that is selfish, and then what will remain is only Me. In the silence, you will be able to listen to Sai, and Sais voice is always
speaking to you at every moment. It is the voice of God. It is
selfless. It cares for everyone, not just for you. If you become
like that, you dont have to borrow Swami from anyone. You
dont have to look for Him in one place or another. You dont
have to worry that you have Him now and you will not have Him
later. All these illusions are created by your own mind.
All I want My devotees to do is to become pure in body, mind,
39

and heart. Become more and more selfless, and feel Swami who is within. Put an end to this continuous wavering
between the two extremes from joy and sorrow, pleasure and pain all this should end. You must rise beyond
all this, and feed Me with it. I came here just to tell you this one truth that Swami is within, and if one person
can feel it, so can you. What is required is only a little effort; an effort to reduce your desires, reduce your wants,
remove all that is selfish in you, remove your mind, and listen to the voice of the heart. Then I will answer everything from within; you wont have to ask anyone.
Dont become like a rich man who forgets where he has buried his wealth. He thinks he is a beggar and borrowers
from others. This wealth of Divinity, your Swami, is right within you. In order to find Him, you have to open your
heart. Turn the key of the mind towards God. If you open the lock, you can see Me in your heart. Dont turn it
the other way and lock it up. I am waiting to speak to each one of you, to guide each one of you, to guard each
one of you. But you have to ask Me for help. You have to turn towards Me and walk towards Me. Take one step,
I will take a hundred steps.
When you go back, you do not have to debate or discuss what is happening, what has happened, or what will happen. All this is a waste of time and energy. Take back this feeling of love and try to become more selfless, more
loving, more kind, more serving, and more feeling within every moment of your life.

I am always there to respond to you, your prayers, and your questions. Have the courage to follow what I guide. Sometimes, it may not be what you want Me to say, but
whatever I say will be for your highest good. Have the courage to follow the voice from
within. It is always selfless. It always thinks about others before you, always cares for
others more than you. Such a voice is Mine. Listen to that voice and courageously follow that voice and reach Me. My blessings are there for all of you, and it is not that you
could come here on your own. In some way or the other, each one of you has prayed to
be with Me, always. That is why I have drawn you all towards Me. Looking at you and
the change in your lives, more and more devotees will feel the presence of Swami and
be there. Each of you, when you go back, must work harder than ever before to love
more people and to serve more people. That alone is the proof of My presence here and
inside you.
