2006 F 350 Remote Start Wiring
2006 F 350 Remote Start Wiring
It was still very foreign to the dealers because although it had the Ford brand
ing it was made by Code Alarm and still considered an aftermarket item due to ha
ving to be added to the truck. They were more comfortable with selling window ti
nting, bed liners, step bars, bug shields and the more common known products. It
took a couple years for the word "remote start" to work into their common sales
language. It was always figured as a more a retail market item. I really worked
hard locally to get these dealers to start selling them and realise the profit
margin is more than most other add-on. Finally most of them customer base has wo
rked the word
"remote start" into their requests and it has become common knowledge to most. H
owever I still run into people every day that ask me "did your truck just start
on its own?". And when I tell them that I remote started my truck they say they
didn't know that you could do that.
There were two previous models until they released the Gen 2 models we see now a
nd even at that there are two Gen 2 models after the introduction of the Ford My
key feature in 2010 I believe. The first two models differed with the first rel
ease being kind of cumbersome with the install. The brain consisted of quite a b
it of installer pre- wiring needing to be done before install. All the ignition
wires individually plugged in and needed to even be tapped into each other somet
imes. In 2002 or maybe 03 Code Alarm dropped their retail modular systems called
PowerCode and reintroduced them to the Ford and Chrysler OEM market. These syst
ems involve a central brain unit that has interchangeable brains so you could te
chnically "upgrade " a customer with say a alarm previously and move him into. A
alarm now with a remote start if you sold him the "upgrade kit" This never happ
en for me. I just gutted what they had and installed a whole system. Since the b
eginning they offered the Bronze (start only), Silver (start with key less entry
), and the Gold (remote start key less with security). When Audiovox acquired Co
de Alarm in 2006 they released the Gen 2 systems which dropped the Silver system
and now the "Gold" system allows you to completely disable the security feature
if not wanted.
This concludes the history of the Ford remote starter systems...lol
