Matter is everything around you.

Matter is anything made of atoms1 and molecules.

Matter is anything that has a mass.

ATOMS
STATES OF MATTER

1. Solid: fixed volume and shape

2. Liquid: fixed volume, but not a fixed shape (depend of their container)
3. Gas: don’t have a fixed volume or a fixed shape.

TYPES OF MATTER

1. Pure substances

cannot be separated into 2 or more substances by physical
or mechanical means

are homogeneous

has constant chemical composition
IRON

ie: gold, iron, salt

2. Mixtures

can be separated into 2 or more substances by physical or
mechanical means

are heterogeneous
SEA WATER
ie: sea water (water + salt)

1. Mass: is the amount of matter in an object.
